      So tragic, tragic way go. I don’t know why Hollywood thinks it’s necessary to tell how celebrities have died. It’s kind of how they Elvis so dirty after he died. It seems so unnecessary for anyone to have that information except for immediate family, but I don’t think the public needs to know this shit. That’s not part they haven’t even learned.😢😢😢😢

    Michelle Phillips is the only one still living, she is the thin blonde, also she is the mother of Chynna Phillips who was go on to great fame in the group Wilson Phillips, with Beach Boys member Brian Wilson's daughters. Michelle has had a big acting career following the group, including starring on night time soap Knots Landing for many years. Cass Elliott was amazing talent who passed much too early in life and yes, watching her and John Denver sing Leaving on a Jet Plane is well worth the time. Denny Doherty sang lead in this one. The sort of creative driving influence in the group was John Phillips the taller guy who was married to Michelle, but John has a bit of a cloudy history with regards to some of the things he did, but Chynna is his daughter with Michelle and his daughters Mackenzie who was a star on the One Day at a Time sitcom and Bijou Phillips are also very well known celebrities. The group broke up after only a few years, the Phillips got divorced, and sweet Mama Cass died of a heart attack at age 32.

      Yup, you've got the whole history of the group. Such sad, tragic story behind the scenes. The early death of the amazingly talented Mama Cass (the heavy-set woman), John Phillips' drug addiction problems along with that of his actress/daughter MacKenzie. Chynna - the daughter Phillips had with Michelle (the other woman in the group) seemed to have escaped the worst of John's behavior/abuse mostly unscathed and went on to have a successful music career as part of a trio with "The Beach Boys" Brian Wilson's two daughters. They billed themselves as Wilson Phillips. Big hit with "Hold On".

    Their song "Creeque Alley" tells about how they got started as a group. A bunch of artist friends kept forming bands, switching members, forming new bands, but eventually all became well known bands (the Byrds, Lovin Spoonful, Barry McGuire, and the Mamas and Papas.) Its comical how the bands kept switching members until they all "got it right."😄 So you might like their "Creeque Alley."

    California Dreamin' was written in 1963 by then husband and wife, and future members of the Mamas & the Papas, John and Michelle Phillips. Interesting thing is, this song was originally recorded by Barry McQuire, with backing vocals by the Mamas & The Papas. His version is present on his second album "This Precious Time." Now if you've heard Barry McQuire's massive mid-60s hit "Eve of Destruction" (which is very good, btw), you'll probably understand why his lead vocals on California Dreamin' were re-recorded for single release by Denny Doherty of the Mamas & the Papas. People say that if you listen closely, you can still hear a snippet of McGuire's original vocal at the beginning of the track. 😀

    Song is about the longing for the warmth of Los Angeles during a cold New York winter day. The song was written in 1963 by John and Michelle Phillips, the husband and wife songwriting team of the Mamas and the Papas, while they were living in New York City during a particularly cold winter. Michelle was missing sunny California, and John began writing the song after being inspired by her homesickness. **went in the the church got down on his knees and pretended to pay** to get warm. One of the most beautiful, gorgeous and harmonic songs ever written and performed. If you don't like this song then you're not truly alive. If it fails to cheer you up then you need to seek therapy immediately. It just doesn't get any better. Both simple and complex, the harmony and interplay between them is unreal. The perfect synthesis between folk and rock. You should react to some of their other hits, like Monday, Monday, Dream a Little Dream of Me, Creeque Alley, Go Where You Wanna Go and Twelve Thirty. All just as gorgeous.

I grew up in L.A. and unexpectedly found myself in Nashville, TN (long story; it was my father's alma mater). I was homesick from DAY ONE, the summer humidity had me thinking I needed a SCUBA tank, and then the end of the first semester was unusually cold for the area. One day, after stomping around my dorm room to get the feeling back in my frozen feet, I turned on the TV. The little icon in the corner said it was 2 degrees. 2 DEGREES! I then turned on the radio - and THIS song came on. I just sat on my little twin bed and cried lol.

    They consisted of John and Michelle Phillips a couple and Denny Doherty and Cassandra Elliot Cohen or Mama Cass not a couple but she was in love with Denny. M cheated on J with D and J would write about it and make them sing them! All are now deceased except Michelle. She and John have a daughter Chyna who along with best friends Carnie and Wendy Wilson daughters of Brian Wilson formed the 90’s group Wilson Phillips.The idea for the name came to Mama Cass when they were watching an interview with one of the members of the Hell’s Angels, the interviewer said that some people called their women B’s and he replied that we call them our Mamas

Their song Creque Alley actually documents the evolution of folk/rock/easy MOR music into what became "The California Sound" it tracks all the great guys that Cass actually sang with BEFORE Mama's & Papa's - John Phillips wrote that song!!

    You may be interested to know that part of the lyrics is a Mandela Effect. I and many others remember "I stopped into a church and BEGAN to pray, not pretend to pray. The lyrics I remember make much more sense.

    • @HeavyTopspin
      @HeavyTopspin 3 месяца назад

      It's not Mandela effect, it's misheard lyrics from a time when we didn't have lyric videos (and even some of those have incorrect lyrics). Same as "Excuse me while I kiss this guy" from Purple Haze, just less funny.

    • @bhorza
      @bhorza 3 месяца назад +1

      Same, I always thought it was began....but I just realized that pretend to pray actually makes more sense....he's pretending to pray so he can stay in the church, out of the cold. The preacher knows he's pretending as well, but he doesn't mind because he knows he's going to stay there for awhile to stay out of the cold.

    They a really have an interesting story. So sad drugs so messed them up. Mamma Cass Elliot has a daughter, Owen Elliot Kugel that just dropped a book about her mom called My Mama Cass. John and Michelle Phillips have a daughter, Chynna Phillips, who is a singer/actress/RUclipsr. John also had daughter Mackenzie Phillips, who you might recognize if you ever saw "One Day at a Time". Mama Cass had a beautiful voice. You might want to listen to " Dream a Little Dream of Me". The John Denver song they did was "Leaving' On a Jet Plane", which was also covered by Peter, Paul and Mary, another group everyone should know.
