Hand Fabricating A Brand New Chassis Rail For Mat Armstrong's Classic BMW E24 635 CSI - Part 4

  • Опубликовано: 27 май 2023
  • In episode 4 of the restoration of Mat Armstrong's BMW E24 635 CSI we start off by un-stitching the old rotten rusty chassis rail. We then set about repairing the floor which was behind the chassis rail and finally get on to hand making a brand new section of chassis rail to replace what was rotten.
We made the whole section out of 1 sheet of metal and it fits perfectly! Getting this section of chassis rail will really get some structure back into the car! This is a major structural section which was non existent before. Its almost like we got this section of chassis rail straight from the dealer! We are looking forward to getting this section welded in properly! But first we will need to fully weld that floor section in and protect it from corrosion. Also there is another small repair to do on the floor before this chassis rail section goes in!

To me, Yorkshire Car Restoration is one of the best car restoration channels out there. There is something about this channel that makes me wanna watch more and more of it. Maybe it's the combination of your sense of humor, the background music, the rust, and the sparks of light that hypnotize me.... I know you guys will get 10x ~ 20x more subs in time for sure. I just wish I knew a way to help you achieve it sooner. Anyone out there know anything we can do to make this channel explode over night? Please, let me know!

@@jamescalderwood Nice. I will think of something👍One thing that worries me is that my post may look like ad spam and end up making it look bad for YCR. Maybe youtubers can see a statistic data of where their subscribers are coming from or what other similar channels they are subscribed to. Then, YCR could do a collaboration video with them and aquire their viewers?! I say this because two channels I am subscribed are collaborating occasionally and they have similar number of subscribers!

Car giveaways, prepping a car (rust to riches?) for a big event like a cannonball, and commonly YT searched for car needs to be mended as well....eg I know no R8's are in the same state as this BM but most people land here due to MA, not because they've searched for an E24. I'd love to win the lottery & donate them some civic rust buckets, they may grab more viewers initially.
IMHO, the best RUclipsrs stick to their roots once famous. These guys are the best at fixing old cars.

Superb works as always. It just goes to show what can be achieved with skill, sheer determination, and an endless supply of sheet steel and MIG wire! I still can't quite understand the commenters who insist that you are doing it all wrong, there is no point to it, car is scrap etc, etc., they just don't get it. I understand that you have not completely stripped the car down to a bare shell and had it dipped or blasted because there would have been nothing left of it, with all the points of reference gone. Once cars like this are finished, they are not used as daily drives, left out in all weathers, subjected to winter after winter of salted roads. They are cherished, stored properly, regularly inspected and cavity waxed. The parts that are not rotted out by now will never rot left as they are, but if they are stripped by dipping or blasting, then they are at the mercy of whatever means of protection is chosen. The way you are doing it is the best way for that particular car. Keep up the good work guys.

The narrative has at times a lovely humor but the editing and production is first rate, gently telling the story of saving the car.

You guys are artists and kudos for taking on this project, I hope you get what you want from it, whether that be money or fame from RUclips, I just wonder if you would have even attempted this project if it wasn't Matt Armstong's car? It looks beyond saving. anyway, again, total respect to you.
