I am very happy that Martin Landau chose to work on Space:1999. He was the perfect Commander Koenig... certainly in the first season! In the second season many of the scripts were not adequate to those of the first.
Paul Morroow and Allan Carter were my favourite characters. I liked John Koenig and Victor Bergman in the first season but the way Koenig was written in the second season made no sense. He was a completely different character and Martin Landau really didn't like it.
I never understood the significant cult attraction to this mediocre series albeit starring 2 of my favorite actors Landau and Bain but it is what it is.
Mediocre? Have you ever watched it? Or the series it was derived from: UFO? The first season was much better than the second one. It was closed to Star Trek as it was less action and more focused on science and morality but the second season had an American showrunner and it just didn't work. Too much humour and action with violence often being the only way out. And many of the main cast did not return or were just not renewed.
@@Trygvar13 I understand that the series has its passionate fans. I'm just not one of them. And yes, I grew up watching the series in its original run in the 70s. However, I really dug Landau and Bain in their far greater series, Mission: Impossible.

Revisit Time Tunnel please!
Martin Landau ironically was replaced in Mission Impossible by Leonard Nimoy as Paris. Paris was also an expert on disguises.

Your loss.
