    In the previous lesson of this series, we learned the 5th position of the G minor pentatonic scale and I showed y’all some nice country and bluegrass riffs to get you started with your improvising. Now let’s make it sound even more country by adding in a couple extra “blues” notes. The blues scale is basically the minor pentatonic scale with one extra note added per octave - the sharp 4th or flat 5th degree. With the right combinations, these blues notes will really make your playing sound country and bluegrass. Let’s break down the blues scale, important fill techniques, and six country and bluegrass riffs with tablature.
    The Gear I Use:
    Acoustic Guitar Strings - Woodtone Country Series woodtonestring...
    Acoustic Guitar - Martin D18 Ambertone Finish, Collings D2H, Atkin D28, Martin D-16GT, Martin D-15
    Guitar Pick - BlueChip TP40
    Thumb Pick - Dunlop 9003P White Plastic Thumbpicks, Large
    Capo - Shub S1 Deluxe
    Visit countryguitaron... to learn a ton of common bluegrass flatpicking guitar licks that you can play at your next bluegrass jam. We’ll break down all guitar lick with tablature and I’ll show you how you can use these licks with the majority of bluegrass songs. Several of these flatpicking licks are in the key of G and they’re designed to help you improvise your guitar solo in bluegrass fiddle tunes like Red Haired Boy, Salt Creek, Gold Rush, Cripple Creek, Cherokee Shuffle, etc.

    G'day Devin, top tuition, as on your VIDS, easy to follow. For a tone deaf Elder, can do some basic pick/strum and pick a bit, you do good stuff, Mate. My likes, Aust and US traditional and Blue Grass. Only problem, cannot use a pick, always thumb. :)

    Thanks for the great lesson! 🙏 quick random question... I just noticed the D-35 I bought this year is spec'd with a two-piece mahogany neck is that normal, something that Martin is doing now to save wood?

    • @33Hossa18
      @33Hossa18 7 лет назад

      You can barely see it and I don't think it really affects the sound. It has a great resonance about it I'm in love haha I just thought they used a solid blank

    • @countryguitaronline
      @countryguitaronline  7 лет назад +1

      Thanks! Yep I think you're exactly right...to save wood or because there was a shortage. I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing as far as quality goes..I'd say it's still really nice. I love D-35s. I have noticed the Martin quality going down in the past ten years because they're starting to mass produce guitars for Guitar Center but they're still amazing guitars with that classic Martin sound. I don't have a D-35 but it's definitely on my list of guitars to purchase one of these days. Congrats on the new guitar.

    Sounds like you're playing the intro to Aqualung. But I guess the difference between rock and blues and country is how you utilize the G scale. Whereas difference between gospel and Blues is who you're singing about... Him or her.

    Just curious why you're playing 5th position blues scale on that part of the guitar. Thanks.

    • @countryguitaronline
      @countryguitaronline  7 лет назад +3

      Michael Poland mostly because the key of G is the most popular key for country and bluegrass and that's where the 5th position blues scale is located key of G. Going to branch out more to other keys in future lessons
