I signed up for his lesson on the 6 month plan and am not regretting it. He is clear and practical and not a lot of useless banter as some others out there that attempt to teach guitar. In a month my skill level has increased. I especially learned from him that if I want to see results i have got to go for quality and accuracy at slow speeds to lay that foundation. I am able to increase tempo much more comfortable when I have a smooth technique down at slow speeds. I know that priciple is very fundamental but I did not get it until Devin. His lessons are structured around that idea and I my wife has seen much inprovment in my playing. My 3 year old granddaughter actually dances to the grove I am now able to create. Metronome is key tool. "Slow is smooth and smooth is fast".
gracious what a encylopdia you are . thnx .your vids are way over my head but i like drownig . and when i get close i just go off on my own . cause my patients is thin .
this is perfect brother..i've been looking for a video where it teaches an intermediate level falt picker licks....there's enough beginner licks out there but this hit the spot
Awesome, glad you like it! More licks like this out our Bluegrass Lick Library if you're interested... countryguitaronline.com/country-bluegrass-licks/
Learned this last night then was able to get it going up to 100-120 bpm. Thanks man! I've always been an improv guy but I don't have many runs that last more than a measure so this is super helpful. Tony rice did this kind of thing a lot.
As a Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen fan, I absolutely love your videos. Trying to get into country and Brad Paisley style playing, and you are a MASSIVE help. Will check out your site.
Awesome, yeah I'm a big fan of Steve Vai also...actually went and saw G3 in Austin a long time ago. Steve Vai was there shredding with Satriani and Petrucci..guest appearance by Eric Johnson. Really great show. Thanks for checking out the site! - Devin
Thanks Carlos! If you like these licks, you might like my new Bluegrass Lick Library countryguitaronline.com/advanced-bluegrass-guitar-lick-library/ Plenty of similar licks over there in some different keys...adding more licks every week. Thanks for watching! - Devin
Devin: I've been a rock and metal player for 30 years (oh man, that made me feel old) and I need to learn some flatpack/bluegrass style for an upcoming gig, and I have no idea what I'm doing, as the style is a little alien to me. So, I took to RUclips. My man, your lessons are FANtastic! I love the licks, they playing, the thorough explanations. Thank you SO much! I have an Alvarez-Yairi DY59 dreadnaught. Do you have any string or pick preferences? Thanks again!
Jonathan Burton Nice! I started out playing rock and heavy stuff for a while when I started playing guitar...old Metallica, Van Halen, Hendrix , satriani..good stuff. I've tested a ton of different acoustic strings and found some that are awesome...Elixer Nanoweb Phosphor Bronze mediums (or the lights are nice too if you're used to the electric guitar strings). They're way better than most strings I've tried. Anyways, thanks for checking out the lessons and the note! Good luck with the gig.
Hey mate. I love your lessons and licks but I rekon ya gotta get to the licks quicker. The first lick in this vid doesn't start until after 4 minutes. I quite like the information you talk about but found myself fast fowarding a lot. Just my 2 cents. I do love ya work though. Cheers from australia
Agreed, great lessons, but you need to stop making the same mistake that a lot of RUclips Presenters make, unnecessarily long dialogue informing the audience what you are going to do. The title tells it all in most cases, yet you spend minutes detailing what you are going to do, then you waste another minute or two telling us what you are NOT going to do (scales).
Yep, all standard tuning. Also recently posted several more licks like these in our new Bluegrass Lick Library if you're interested... countryguitaronline.com/advanced-bluegrass-guitar-lick-library/
Am i the only one who think excessive talking of these dudes makes the lessons more complicated? One - dont try to simplify it,you are making it more difficult to follow. And second, dont slow it too much, it makes it more boring so therefore, and again more difficult to follow. Lets be honest, this is not advanced, but not for beginners also...So find a middle. For example. Song Nothing Else Matters. Play it 4 times slower, and even I will lose the track of it...Who knows it for 30 years. So...play the licks pretty much as you should, and let us deal with tabs. My opinion.
Some of the best clear easy to learn, thanks for the uncluttered straight forward clear teaching style!
This guy's got a soothing, Bob Ross sound to his voice. Happy little bluegrass licks.

I can’t for the life of me figure why anybody would give this young man a thumbs down. Maybe jealousy
It's the whiskey. You're going for the thumbs up but accidentally hit the wrong thumb.

I'd like to see that not even the best Bluegrass players can get up to that fast 😂

Great job and very clean! What brand and gauge string do you use?
Jimmy O'Leary thanks! Finally found some awesome strings...Elixer Nanoweb Phosphor Bronze mediums. They're the real deal
What it would look like if Dustin Johnson retired from golf and decided to teach guitar instead.
As usual, great lesson.
He should make a series where he just jams for like 10 minutes
That would be sweet!
Aytan Leibowitz do. Yeah they're doing great right
Bobby Darren play country music
