R&C1 has the best OST in the series, with pretty much every planet having its own theme, and multiple paths having different themes. As with a lot of other aspects, it shows that R&C1 was worked on for more time than the other 2 titles in the Trilogy.. Don't get me wrong, the music is good throughout, and there are some standouts in 2 and 3 aswell (and some in other R&C games, too); but I just find 1's to be the most memorable overall.
I think R&C1 had the best overall soundtrack. It was just all breakbeat/drum & bass electronic music. From R&C2 and on I guess they kinda wanted a more orchestral, epic sound so there aren't as many pure electronic tracks anymore. Still great music though and there's still a few outstandingly good tracks here and there so it's great. :3
My view on downloading the music is this: I bought the games, therefore I own a copy of the music. I could turn my PS2/PS3 on, turn the SFX off, and listen to the music by itself on loop for hours at a time if I wanted to, changing planets and moving around the level to select my desired track. What's the difference between doing all that shit and just grabbing a copy off the internet and sticking it on my iPod? One's a hassle, one isn't. I am above the law if the law is rooted in ignorance :P
I certainly would say I love Ratchet and Clank 1's music the most of the series. In general, I love all the Ratchet and Clank games music. I did an electronic music subject in early high-school, and all my music was inspired by Ratchet and Clank 1. Some great music, A big thanks to the music guys!
I'd totally buy the OST if it were available to purchase on CD, but I can't, so I haven't. As for my favourite soundtrack, I love all the PS2 soundtracks, but didn't get into the music for the Future titles. My favourite tracks would be the ones during the dogfight on Oltanis Orbit, the cave you're dropped into on Tabora, the enemy segments on Boldan and Snivelak, the Phoenix VR simulation, Obani Draco, both tracks on Koros, and an unused track you can trigger with some luck in the Museum.
I loved the Insomniac museum track, iv must have played that Music over 100 times or more these past years. Also I liked insomniac museum in 2 more than 3, in 3 it just looked so weird to the point i gave me headaches.
Basically, if you enter either of the Interiors of Todano, the music doesn´t play. As a child, I never heared that soundtrack, I heared it for the first time about a year ago, when I discovered it on RUclips. I don´t know if it was on disc or not but that could be the only way how people could access it, by hacking into the disc. They couldn´t just record it from TV if it never plays.
Yeah, we think it has to do with the whole Blu-ray VS DVD streaming thing we mentioned in our first HD episode. Basically it takes longer to buffer the streaming audio -- it's the same reason it takes a few seconds longer to load helpdesk messages.
Pretty cool nowadays people have made stereo remasters of the soundtracks and upscaled others using AI. The sand crystal level in RC2 is probably my favorite theme from the series.
My favorite ratchet them is from the desert crystal level from going commando. The one with the guitar, not the one that also plays in the insomniac museum.
personally I think they hold back the music so they can sell it as dlc in something later on. like playstation all stars? if they released a ratchet music back for the stages or something. which honestly I don't have a problem with. you see that sort of thing in fighting games getting the older games soundtracks as dlc nowadays.
host.kg13.com/music/ this is a page with soundtracks of 8 ratchet games in mp3 format. ratchet 2 has even cutscene audio rips. and the track everybody loves from Tabora and Museum is "Mining Area - Planet Tabora". My other favourite is "Thug HQ - Planet Snivlak" - the track from before Thug Leader bossfight.
last time i checked i havent seen one case of a videogame company sueing someone for ripping game music if there only using it to personally listen to.
Are you sure they are in MP3? Should be in different format. Also, Metal Gear Solid soundtracks are available on CD. ALL OF THEM. And The Lost Frontier OST is on iTunes.
I´m really glad you talked about this. Too bad you´ve never met David Bergeaud, I really like his music that he´s done for R&C, and for me(guitar player) it was fun learning a lot of the songs some time ago. I have a question though. The facility song from R&C2 is not present in the final game(I already asked you about this once). So, are there just some programming issues or was memory the problem? Was the size of a music file problem sometimes?
I guess I don't know what you mean by "It wasn't present in the final game?" Was it on the disc but not playing ever? If so, it probably got cut in favor of another song but never removed from the build (that happens from time to time).
Personally I think that Ratchet & Clank doesn't have the best soundtrack, there are a few stand outs and I've never really felt like buying the soundtrack by itself. However I do think that the soundtrack is very consistent and presents a unique sound that no other game has.
I love all the soundtracks in the series except for a few of the ACIT themes because I hated having the same track playing all the time but with different instruments

'Finding the Crystals' in Tabora and 'The Zygan System' in Obani Gemini are my favourite. David Bergeaud is a genius.

My favourite tracks were Outpost X11, Olantis orbit, The Zygan system and Todano. Great work by the composer.

Sorry guys, but my favorite track is the Pirate theme from the Future games, which I don't know if you worked on
I talked to David on Facebook once.
Wow really!? That's awesome, David Bergeaud is genius and I love his work on R&C. Did you ask about why he doesn't work on R&C games anymore?

well they have started selling them now,
All 4 one's soundtrack has been released... on psn and itunes...
ya they're a great buncha choons, especially the Styis nd Dreadzone ones near the end

This site is down now!

Oh ya that track the first time you fight Nefarious is prolly the most intense boss theme in the Series!
Are you sure they are in MP3? Should be in different format.

In the Ratchet Collection, the music loop is broken in every game: it takes a pause for 1-3 seconds when it loops.

Well we didn't have DLC back then, so that wasn't why they were holding it back on RC3 -- but I get what you're saying, for sure.
That's such a good track.
I think there is a soundtrack rip somewhere out on a fansite. There's gotta be.
I'm sure no one would complain if those copies of the soundtracks turned up on the bay of pirates at some point. :)
i like the track from planet dobbo. the one in this episode
Deadlocked had the best soundtrack of the series.
It's a shame because sometimes it won't trigger. That multiple soundtracks per level problem.
I guess I don't know what you mean by "It wasn't present in the final game?" Was it on the disc but not playing ever? If so, it probably got cut in favor of another song but never removed from the build (that happens from time to time).
I've got no idea, really. The laws are complicated on that sort of thing.
Lol there is a car under my seat
so, you didn't even think about leaking the tracks on bitgamer with no mention of where they are from or who you are?
also stop apologising you do this awesome thing for the fans its not like you owe us anything lol
No, he really can't do that, unfortunately. ~Mike
=) Thanks!
i meant the series as a whole
Is Ratchet and Clank 2 the first thing you guys ever did together under the tile useless podcasts?
I could have it for a certain amount of money .....
Is it illegal to have a rip of the music if you own the original game?
An official album release would still be fantastic though.
*Stygia
screw dat R&C has the best soundtrack
wut
