Still can't understand how this song didn't blow up. It's one of their best and yet one of the most underrated songs ever.

I think it's because of the too soft mix / master... it sound dull and lacks of energy, which makes it unsuitable for radio plays. It's a great song and all but it doesn't represent their old sound :)

In 2012, I went to see them in concert for the first time. In their intro jam for californication, Josh played a little riff that I absolutely loved. It mesmerized me and I used to play a really bad quality recording of it on my phone just for that riff. Couple of years later, they released The Getaway and while I was listening to it for the first time in my car, I came across this song and started crying instantly. It's exactly the same guitar riff that I used to listen to in 2012 ! I couldn't believe it. It's been my favorite song since then. So underrated !!

This song it's just amazing. It makes me feel somethings that I can't even explain. Makes me want to spend some time with the ones that I love, makes me want to find a love and tell no lies.

Love this song, especially because I drive down Calexico highway every month to visit my family in Mexicali. Interesting part of Cali, farmland mix with desert it's peaceful & beautiful, Blue Angels also practice in the area, they fly real low to the ground right above you while Driving down Calexico highway.
Antonio Trinidad here in the UK we don't have Calexico Highway. We have the M6 which I drive when returning to see family and friends. Great driving song.

I saw the blue angels when I was crossing that bridge in San fransisco from Oakland I think, felt like a movie that I showed up there when they were flying

Jason Steiner This guy's music evolved with time. Some songs still have that 90's vive then you have a change up with songs like this one. This is by far their best album in my opinion.

Tonight I listened to The Getaway in entirety
for the first time. I know, I’m late. I just need to say that “Encore” has to be my favorite song on the album next to “The Getaway” and “Go Robot”. It’s hard to choose one song. I’m pretty happy with this album. My dad includes it in his top 3 RHCP albums. Anyway, this song made me feel so happy, like I’m flying. Just as Scar Tissue made and still makes me feel. I didn’t notice he says “Listen to the Beatles” until the second time. The Beatles and RHCP are my 2 favorite bands ever 😊 this song just gives me the exact vibe I want to feel my whole life. Makes me feel like I should be in LA

Eddie Scandura Usually these videos are only for enjoyment, because they are not own of the band. Personally I enjoy watching the guy at the end going with the lamp because it reminds me of the phrase: Walk away from mom and dad to find the love you never had.

I really enjoy this great Chili Peppers song - I like to have some fun with it and change a part in the chorus. When Anthony sings "Hold my Hand", I change it to "Pull my finger" - and laugh the rest of the chorus. It works so well.
When you hear it that way, "Hold my hand" just doesn't sound right anymore.

This song is something Special because this the ONLY Time Josh as managed to reach JOHN'S LEVEL.
GB: I agree that John is arguably the finest guitar playerer alive and one of the finest in the entirety of the Universe across any era, he's right up there with a tiny number of astonishing guitarists....(Just my irrelevant opinion...ha) I also really dig his solo work. However, Josh had a loaded dice right from the get go. It's a hell of an ask to follow the position John held. Then, as if that isn't daunting enough; there's over three decades of unusually and probably exceptionally close and hcompletely mutually felt and given in ntense friendship. It's claimed they have a friendship that is such an understanding and meeting of minds/souls/intention and energy they don't always talk when they have stuff to discuss.... (allegedly, I obviously am a RUclips irrelevant nobody and thus am repeating what has been written in some interview) It's very plausible imo. Even if it's a load if bullshit; there's no question that the friendship's depth and duration would have been very strange to come into after John wasn't there and play his part.....as Josh .....but you know, replace John on lead guitar
So, I am a huge admirer of John's body of work across his career with RHCP and especially solo; however Josh is a very gifted musician; the youngest ever person to be inducted into the Rock and Rolll Hall of fame. He has very reason to hold his head high.
Try to come from a place of love for the folk we are all intertwined with as it's not only better for whomever you're speaking of, it also means you don't seem spiteful.
Josh is Josh.
John is John.
It's not fair doing that.
