  • On Sunday afternoon, January 19, 2014, Pieces of a Dream showcased an old school sound by performing live their hit "Mount Airy Groove" at the Tampa Bay Black Heritage Festival (Celebrating Tampa Bay Heart and Soul) in the Curtis Hixon Riverfront Park - Tampa, Florida. Entertaining on stage were Curtis Harmon raised in Philadelphia, PA now lives in Edison, NJ (Drums and Original Member); James Lloyd from Philadelphia, PA (Keyboard and Original Member); Tony Watson Jr. from Dayton, OH (Saxophone and Keyboard); Rohn Lawrence from New Haven, CT (Electric Guitar), and David Dyson from Washington, DC (Bass Guitar). From 1981 to 1984, Pieces of a Dream built their reputation with three albums on Elektra that would come to define the musical essence of the smooth jazz radio explosion: Pieces of a Dream, We Are One and Imagine This. Those seminal records yielded some of their earliest hits, including "Warm Weather," "Mount Airy Groove" and "Fo Fi Fo."

One of my favorite instrumental grooves I first heard back in 82'. I heard it on the radio the other day and I just couldn't remember the name of the group on the groove. I was thinking it was maybe the Reddings. This was a great live performance. No school like old school grooves.

Dreary? I enjoyed the guitar solo too, but the original was never dreary.

At 1:57 Sir Ron Laws kicked out the most funkiest, malicious, sick, guitar solos I've ever heard before in my old ass entire life.
