- Recently, Freiburger and Dulcich were stopped by some fans who invited the guys to come thrash the Crusher Impala around their property. While there, Freiburger spotted a big-block 440-swapped '68 Dart he couldn’t pass up. Now, the guys pick up the Dart and take it home to give it an impressive engine bay makeover and horsepower-adding tune-up.

What color paint would you go with for this Dart?
racing green all the way
Original
Black, bring mtod back to Australia.
Mod Top Roof and Panther Pink . oh yeah.
Original color, black hood, 15x 9 Dish Mags, 275 60 rear, 15x 8 245 60 front
You 2 are awesome together. You can totally tell that you guys have been friends since you were young
I think there’s about a 10 to 20 year age gap between the two of them don’t think it was friendship since youth, but definitely have the ability to bond real well
@@brandonnunez3644frieberger is 56, and Steve is 61.
@@brandonnunez3644 Theres about a 4-5 year difference between them. They have been in the magazine game since late 80s or early 90s
David’s impression of no bumper stance kicked me off tha couch. 🤣
T-shirt please
Hahahaha! He nailed it!
@@casow780 agreed t-shirts nnnnnnow
It’s so accurate too 😂😭 that’s what happens when you just film two dudes working on a car you catch golden stuff like that
The chemistry between these guys is awesome. Dulcich is a frick’n beast! These 2 guys have to be among the most knowledgeable people in the automotive world today. I just really love the way they explain what they’re doing, don’t take anything too seriously and they appear to having some great fun doing something that brings them joy. When you add in the fact that they share this with the public I feel fortunate that I’m able to watch it.
Finnegan and his crew are awesome too.
The most knowledgeable on old cars, I bet you put them around some brand new European stuff and they won't even touch it or know anything about it! I don't blame em either.
“It’s like spraying….JB weld” 😂😂😂 exactly freiburger
The cutscene of Steve’s face when the fireball woofed out of the carb though! 🤣🤣. P.S. I LOVE that car and I want it!
He looks like some mad scientist in a dark lab with that lighting on him.
He looks like his wife just caught him cheating in that shot
Someone stepped on his tail.
Love the Dart, It just needs some drag wheels and tires now. A set of polished Centerline Auto Drags and some Mickey Thompson ET Street R's 295's would look awesome. 😎
Man that takes me back! I had a 67 with factory 273v8 2bbl, 727 and posi. Me and my brother pulled it, swapped in a 557 lift purpleshaft, sent the heads off for 3 angle and double springs, added a streetmaster 318 edelbrock, 850 holley doublepump, cyclone headers with 2.5" duals straight into 30" walker turbos with turndowns in front of the axle to send reverb back up into the car. Totally wicked monster that drank quite well from that 850 and would light em up anywhere up to 60 on dry pavement. Never put a tach on it but I am pretty sure it revved over 8k stock. Never heard a v8 scream that loud and high, with the typical Chrysler cackle at idle.
Man I miss that car. Glad to see another one being kept alive!!
I had a 1986 ramcharger royal se 4x4 360 was stroked to 409 bluprinted & ballanced 2 stages of nos 1 dry 1wet 727 Trans stage 3 full manual and a super high stall converter 8800rpm all day long! Swaped in 1 ton diffs d60 front d70 rear with 4.10 gears it would spank 2door viper trucks with ease
@@mattk252 sounds like whiplash. Nice!
The Dart looks like a Valliant Regal once sold in Australia.
Another great video.
Epic. I love watching you two guys work together.
Brings back memories of my 69 Swinger 340 tunnel ram dual 4’s, 4 speed, half tubbed 4.56 posi. The days before internet and you learned from experience. No plug and play computer parts, lots of turning wrenches and getting dirty. :)
This piece is a huge throw back for me. Cheap thrills was the all time greatest write of all time!
i do love a nice freshly painted engine bay.
Awesome car... I had a1969 GT with a 318, automatic console shift. Best car I ever owned!! Keep up the good work!!
Always looks nice when the engine bay is detailed
I'm not trying to be a creeper and besides I live like 3000 miles away...but always love those ariel shots of Steve's homestead. All the different buildings with all kinds of automotive goodness hidden throughout his ranch. I see he finally improved on the main og building up front where most of these episodes have taken place. I'll admit that I'm jealous of that big automotive slice of heaven. Might be a little rough around the edges but looks just right to me.
The cheap thrills dart had a huge impact on me as a kid. One of a handful of cars that shaped what I think a hotrod should be.
Remember the old I think it was hot rod article about a cheap drag racer. They threw a 440 out of a imperial into a dart. They were trying to make something fast for $2,000. My favorite thing about the article is the pipe clamps for the transmission mount on the crosmember.😆 Edit this is the exact car I was talking about!
There was a 440 318 Dart at my High School. It was completely unsafe and everyone at the school owned it at one time. It was a beast. Looked like schitt but was WAY over powered. 80 mph on drum brakes for 16 year old kids.
I miss my 68 Dart gt /6 auto. Totalled by a drunk driver at 60 mph didn't try to stop. Nice job guys.
That was awesome!! I love that Dart!! More please!
I absoultely love the chemistry between you two!! Can we please get an episode of you guys with Westen Champlin? Please. I feel like that would be such a cool episode!
I saw this on TV, But I just had to watch it again. Such a big fan.
I loved this episode and I also loved the episode of Freiburger's 383 Duster stroked to 440 cubes. I dearly wish that car would come back as a sub framed roll caged bracket/race car !
Dulcich is bloody awesome mate, love the big goofy fella.
The look on his face as he was trying to fire the car up 😂
7:52
Had a 73' Dart Swinger in High School..always had a soft spot for A-bodies and Darts.
Love the bungee cord hooks for hood pin clips...... run what you have! Been there done that!
GREAT VIDEO DAVID!!!! GREAT REBUILD AND UPGRADES!!!! CHEAP THRILLS 2.0 !!!!! I LOVED THAT OLD DART!!! I AM GLAD TO SEE IT RETURNING AGAIN!!!! THANKS FOR SHARING AND SO INSPIRATIONAL!!!!!
Did you ever calm down after posting this comment?
I remember cheap thrills Dart like it was yesterday. Great episode
One of my favorites yet One of my dream cars Is a dart gt or GTS falling only behind a 383 4speed 69 runner my very first experience with Mopar handing my dad wrenches at 3 yrs old while he was underneath putting another 440 in it about it's 7or8th motor overall then he gave it to me when I got Big enough to really understand wish I still had that car
Technology is fine and all but you can't beat the physics of a small car with a big engine. It never gets old.
Keep going with the build guys, the Dart is badass!!!! Use that engine bay paint on the body, and it would look awesome!
Love watching you two tinker. I've needed to paint the bay on my "67 Comet since the 90's but I get too lazy once the motor is out. It looks like Dulcich is as shaky as I am :) .. "Getting Older is Awesome!" ~no one
finally they didn't beat the car to death. this was one of my favorite mopars.
I love Petina on a classic car just do the motor, drive train, exhaust, wheels and tires and your GOLD!
Amazing what a little bit of elbow grease and paint can do. Nice job fellas
When Steve started the engine after y’all got it together he reminded me of Arnie off of Christine, you know the movie with the red Plymouth fury 😂
at 7:54 😂 that face of a mad scientist or vibes from Christine towards the end of the movie
Massive improvement. Went from where's the crusher to this is cool.
Seeing this makes me miss old Roadkill :(
Dulcich is my favorite person on the planet
I like the bungie cord ends for the hood pins.
My first car was a 66 Dart w/225 slant 6. My favorite has always been a 68 Dart. I've been hoping to run across a decent one ever since. One day!!!
Running at 140 degrees? Guessing the big blocks can handle low temps better than smaller engines? Always heard 160 was as low as I should go without risking a blown gasket.
So cool to see a dart again. Thanks guys!!
man i love roadkill garage
Saw this on motor trend last month . Nice little dart
I'm not a mopar guy but i really like this car. The brown color is perfect. One think I wouls have done was put a flattening agent in the paint to make it more matte or satin to match the exterior paint. Also, if you change the wheel tire combo get blacked out wheels. Love the look. Maybe swap in and LS?
Swap out a 440 big block for an LS lmao. You lost ur fkn mind
Growing up my family had a 1969 bronze Dodge Dart with the 225 slant six in it.
As a painter, this makes me happy. Good job.
Great video. Those guys are good!!!
At the 8 min mark Dulcich had the look of a madman
Steve reminds me of my dad so much ahaha. Idk why it’s just the care free attitude I think. My dad isn’t into cars , but the personality is super similar.
Steve looks like the mad scientist or Dr Frankenstein behind the wheel when David was putting the timing in.
Loved “cheap thrills” back when magazines were fun !!!
Very cool, really enjoyed!!!! 👍👍👍👍
That was awesome! Rebuild the 440 from like Indy cylinder head and paint that sucker
I LOVE 68 DARTS! COOL!
Diferencia muito pouca coisa mas é igual ao dodge aqui no brasil. Muito show !!!! Parabéns pelo vídeo.
Roadkill is the best, how about meeting Dennis Collins on a Coffee walk?
Uncle Tony eat your heart out! 😄
I love that car!
I remember your project cheap thrills Dodge dart that car really really inspired me to do engine swaps that's why I have a 77 gremlin with a 307 Chevy motor I call fugly and trust me I love doing engine swaps and doing hybrid engine swaps and stuff like that David freiburger dosage thank you for doing roadkill you guys are my favorite favorite engine swap hashers and that's why I'm like I am today holla if you hear me
THANKS GUYZ.....
A former co-worker bought his black '68 GTS 440 Dart new at Grand Spaulding Dodge in Illinois.
Too bad the show went from being free on RUclips to being monetized because it was getting popular
America ...... We make profit......
@@timhenning18 Its still too bad regardless
Having a clean car is nice too
@7:56 Dulcich looking like Dr. Frankenstein
Dulcich's new teeth are on point!!!
Had a 69 440 dart, miss that car.
That's exactly the car I need to shred tires here in Thailand. Please ship it now
Awesome hoodpins!! Awesome, "hoodhooks " actually?
"Here´s the skimmy.." Wait a minute, is Freiburger getting old? No one has used that impression for at least 30yrs...:)
Dulchich has bad shakes, hope he’s alright, praying for you brother.
My neighbor owed that cheap thrill Dodge dart that thing was a beast of a car. I think he's a tattoo artist
Nice engine bay.
Cool stuff 😎 👍. Enjoyed
When you pulled the 440 and trans for the cheap thrills dart you dumped trans fluid everywhere out the tail shaft...much neater this time
I love that turbine bronze, repaint the whole thing.
I had a 68 dart. 225 engine and swinger package. 10in drums all the way around
You just built my dream car!
How did the power steering fit and were there clearance issues with the exhaust?
Mr. Norm did it in his GSS like the one in my clip about it
Mopar baby! Beautiful !
Tire killing is always gooder! Great show as always!
I had a 67' 4 door with a dark green color. The only thing i swapped out was a front seat from a 2 door i to my 4 door!
Now that is basically a clone of a 1968 Mr. Norms Dart GSS. All these guys have to do is cut holes in the fender wells for the big headers
Ah!! Another big block A body to add to the fleet! What will this be named? Can't wait to see the next installment!
That color was what my first car was 1974 dodge dart always wanted a older one but I was young and when I turned 16 bought a 1987 mustang notch back foxbody and ended up leaving the dart sit and dad decided to give it away things you wish u still had as u get older.
They ran great right out of the factory my friend had a 68 Dodge charger RT black it would run 175 miles an hour
With this car , "your playing my song "
Uh Core support ? i thought that it was part of unitized Body? are you welding it back together?
I love that car wish I could get one one day
Please bring back motor trend for countries outside US tu watch
I would pay big money to see a Uncle Tony /Freiburger /Steve D battle royal. Make it happen guys.
That's a great color - you should repaint the rest of it.
You two should write a book of all cars you've been through and their stories
I'm sooooo jealous!!
Great! Ringo to ya
I like it. Good job...
Awesome video...Love this...
