- Mercedes has announced that its range-topping V6 engine for the Sprinter is no longer available, so we took the opportunity to drive a pair of luxury Frankia A-classes, one with the previous big engine and one with its new breed of 2-litre motors (producing 190bhp).
The new Mercedes engine powers a £194k Frankia Platin Edition One, with twin single beds at the back and an impressive level of kit as standard.

Wow, what a motorhome! Only Bettered by the excellent detailed review, too detailed for some but for those that are interested or those like me seriously looking for options your detailed presentation is invaluable. Great job Sir! Many thanks.
Our pleasure! The detail is what makes our reviews different, I feel
Have to say love Peter's videos, he is a bit of a legend.
Very kind. Thank you
What a beautiful motorhome. More like an apartment. Great video
Thank you. Yes, the Platin really is something special
your tours are very detailed, always a pleasure to watch even when the van dissapoints :D
Thank you. Hope this 'van didn't disappoint!
That drop down bed is awesome! I'd love that in a 6m motorhome.
Laika used to do it in their six-metre H600. Frankia offers it in all its A-classes, down to 6.5m (but not 6m, I'm afraid)
Other than that, I’m not feeling this thing.
Very nice could live in this one!❤
I think so too!
I would so love to see you do one of your thorough reviews of a gigantic American style motor home...like a 40 foot plus diesel pusher or a 35 foot plus Super C type model. To see you apply your characteristic practicality to an over the top American RV would be just terrific. I hope I get to see it someday.
Maybe. Let's see if we get offered a huge RV but there are so few sold in the UK now, where it was once quite big market.
I'd probably rather try a Vario or Dembell from Germany!
@@MotorhomeCampervan I have just been watching a lot of reviews of really big bus and truck type RVs that are very popular here, and it would be great to see you pick them apart and find all their faults. I can just imagine how many times you would say things like "why the hell would they put that there?!" LOL Plus, I feel like you could really have fun talking about the engines they put in them over here...I can only imagine the adjectives you would use to describe driving something with 400 horsepower and 1000 pounds of torque. 😁😁
@@MotorhomeCampervan But of course, you are correct that there is not a market for too many 45 foot long RVs on British and European roads...I just imagine how much fun you could have on a trip to the USA to look at the biggest campers we have. 💯✌
i must confess to wanting to be more impressed for that amount of money.
I drive buses I've done so for 20 years and driven older buses from Bristol and Leyland with big thumping diesel engines. Nowadays we have smaller four cylinder Euro turbo diesels powering amongst others long single Deckers which have no problems pulling a fully loaded bus with standing passengers as well as seated ones, they are more than capable of cracking on so to speak. Also, they are fitted with two wipers that admirably clear the screen so I completely agree with your reasoning over these new diesel options nowadays in the motorhomes. I enjoyed the review very much!👍
Thank you and great insight on the comparison with buses
Lovely motor home but that’silly bed arrangement to try to make it into a double bed is a joke. Shocking design. Great review/ tour as always.
Totally agree. Thanks for watching!
Fantastic Frankia! They haven't missed much.
I think so too!
Excellent reveiw Peter. As an owner of a Platin 8400 plus I can assure you they are as good as they look. Just had 10 days away, 5 days off grid in Northumberland. Eventually went to a campsite because we couldnt find anywhere to replen water. Only downside! You get some very strange looks when you are sleeping in a car park in one of these!
You're a lucky man! I love the Platin's off-grid capability, without going to a long options list
Wonderful review, Peter. I think the rear bed arrangement let's it down a little. Other than that, a great van.
Yes, a great 'van and Frankia does island beds and some super rear lounges if you don't have to have the limited edition
can only dream of owning one, unfortunately. but really great motor home, enough writing, going back to dreaming
Just a dream for me, too. I'd need to sell the house!
I think this is my favorite motor home due to the off grid capabilities
Few come close on that score!
With that overhang at the rear its only offroad on flat ground.
Big water tank, big double bed (may have to make your own sheets). Like it.
you've lost me on the twin turbos
No cree, que el garaje es pequeño para una motocicleta? Gracias
Not a Harley maybe but it's OK for the sort of motorbikes that motorhomers use
What beautiful motorhomes but I'd need a second mortgage to own one. But, as usual Peter, an excellent review and worth sticking with the video just to absorb your detailed information.
Many thanks! Perhaps time to start doing the lottery!!
The Habitation doors are on the wrong side
Just on the continental side, but it just doesn't matter with vehicles like this. If you take a UK motorhome abroad, its habitation door is on the "wrong" side...
The habitation doors are on the wrong side
On the continental side, yes. But does it matter? You'll never park one of these on the street and you have a door each side (one cab, one habitation), so wherever you are there's always a safe exit.
In any case, surely if you spend this much you'll be travelling in Europe, too?
🙄
As a new comer to the lifestyle can someone answer why you wouldn't regularly see that cooker/hob layout on a german van? What's the cultural difference I'm missing? Just interested....
The Germans (and other European nations) seem to eat out more and cook outside more (better weather!). There is much less demand for ovens on the Continent. But, here, a lot of buyers insist on an oven but then rarely use it!

The continentals tend to BBQ much more than we do, so no need for all the kitchen palaver that we want. They have the weather for it!
Such a great van very luxurious, but for all that money you only get a cassette toilet.why Don’t modern manufacturers go for the new indus system much more civilised
I think manufacturers are waiting to see customer reaction to the Indus, and to see if is reliable. Burstner introduced it first on the Elegance and Frankia has it on one model for this season.
Does it seem normal to you that a totally new and empty vehicle has so much noise? very bad construction...
Actually, these Frankias are very well made, but most motorhomes suffer from some conversion noise (some better than others), simply because you are driving a vehicle that's full of furniture! Imagine what your house would sound like if you could drive it...
Campervans are often much better because of their stiffer body construction and less contents.
In my personal view, I think it's over-priced.
Take any other comparable motorhome and add all the Platin's spec and I'm sure you'll spend more
You know they are simply a ridiculous price. If you want something that big get a caravan
But with a caravan you have to always use campsites. With motorhomes like this you rarely need a site (just occasionally to fill/empty tanks if you can't find anywhere else, which in Europe is almost never). The whole point of a Platin is its superb off-grid capability.
Price-wise, a Range Rover is £100k-plus and an Airstream caravan is £85k. The depreciation on that pair would make the Frankia look like the bargain of the century!
@@MotorhomeCampervan it is way over priced what on earth has a Range Rover got to do with anything. That is also way too big and once at your location how can you visit anything in that monster. I have a LR discovery and caravan set up that is just as good as that second hand total for both was £ £23k
I am a Spaniard who bought a Frakia Platin in 2018 and I have infinite problems from the first day, I repeat, the first day, the distributor in Spain and the factory in Germany do not take care of it, I do not recommend this brand, very poor construction
That certainly hasn't been our experience with the numerous Frankias we've tested and we have a good sole importer here, too. Have you tried dealing with the factory direct?
@@MotorhomeCampervan Yes, of course, I have traveled three times to Germany and one to France (Ange) and they do not give me solutions, problems with the dashboard of the vehicle, refrigerator, window with humidity, etc. etc. and that after seeing everyone
What a soulless beast. So boring and definitely not worth £200k. No extractor! Even my Adria has one. I can’s see anyone taking this off grid tbh. Not for me even if I could afford it.
Shame it is so ugly!
Any worse than other A-classes? They all tend to be boxy to maximise interior space. The new Adria Supersonic is quite handsome - see our video ruclips.net/video/5X-di-oKIFQ/видео.html
@@MotorhomeCampervan Not all - at least some have some styling of sorts. Agree Adria Supersonic being one along with Hymer Master Line range 🤷♂
