- This is our teaser video about our foot driven mechanical wok toss prototype. We’ve been developing various backyard cooking devices, for more please subscribe to Pyrowhiz / @pyrowhiz
We discovered the joys of wok cooking a while ago, but didn’t get addicted until we took it outside, where we could use a powerful wok burner and chase the Holly Grail of wok hei (the breath of a wok). the science of stir fry
When working with high temperatures, one needs to learn the perfect toss. The traditional way of tossing is tiring and takes a lot of practice, too much for ’wannabe’ chefs like us.
After watching many Wok masters on RUclips. After studying the science of stir-fry and after many failed prototypes, we successfully built mechanics that would give us a perfect toss movement effortlessly… instantly… hands-free.
With two separate easy-to-use foot pedals, the user controls the speed, synchronization and intensity of both the toss and the heat. This addictive game is all about the driving foot being in sync with the food. Once started, one can accelerate the motion, tossing the food higher and higher, knowing it will land back perfectly in the sauce and not hit the ground. Our prototype was built to allow the user to adjust all of the settings of the mechanics to attain the perfect toss.
Enough said, take a look and please tell us what you think in the comments.

For the given compact size it might be probably the best mechanism for automatic stir-fry, most likely giving much better results than a beginner cook.
But it's not the exact representation of stir-fry wok trajectory that professional chefs use, but this kind of movement would be way more complicated and bigger and probably not worth the effort in most cases
Overall good design, I wish you more sales of this machine
You are my hero
fantastic use of King of the Mountain Hill.
yah, we tried a few other classics like the Ravel's Bolero, but only the King worked :)
Amazing. Are these for sale?
Hi Jeff. Yes we’re thinking about it. We wanted too see if the wok community liked the idea and then maybe start with short runs.
love this. i love the two things separately. the creation and the video. having said that, can we get a stable tripod shot if thing working? so hard to really get a sense of it.
Asiago is you don't want to sell it, please post plans or some clear photos of your mechanics so people like me can recreate it!! thanks for sharing
Yes this video is a little too artsy to really see what’s going on. We’re going to make a simpler video with wider shots.
I want one.
I'll make you one as soon as I get back!!
