Wow! I had no idea the city was so Spanish. I used to live in Spain. Those narrow, cobblestone streets, the balconies and arches in the architecture and all the palms make it seem like aliens beamed up an old Spanish city and plunked it down in Florida. There are even Spanish forts! That so many of the buildings are flying the colors of the Spanish flag make its roots even more apparent. They’ve done an amazing job preserving the original Spanish flavor of the city. So glad they didn’t cover it with skyscrapers.
I just got back from my vacation there and I recommend the oasis if your looking for a good place to relax and eat and the music is really good as well 🏝
Like many southern states in the USA such as California, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia, there are also many species of palm trees grown in Florida. Many tropical trees such as palm, banana, coconut, Epipremnum aureum and many more are grown in St. Augustine. The subtropical or tropical climate of this area makes the flora here abundant. Many houses, buildings, and churches have louver-style brown wooden windows, balconies, and fences. The city has much influenced by the architecture of the Spanish and European colonial period in the 19th and early 20th century. Both of the federal and state flags are often flying outside the buildings. The Florida state flag has two red and yellow colors (like the Spanish flag). Overall, in my opinion, the city of St. Augustine is clean, quiet and ancient. However, roads and pavements for pedestrians of the city seem narrow.
My heart is here in this town. My fathers grew up here . We came to St Augustine every summer from Pennsylvania before I-95 was built . There was 7 of us in a Ford Galaxy . My Italian Grandfather was 6'4" ,My grandmother ,Aunt Mary,Cousin Kathy ,My mom,Me and My dad almost 6 ' What a Blast ! My family is still there.
More spanish flags than in Catalonia. People usually tells bad spanish history to other people, but we must be more proud of our history than much other countries. Viva España! Viva USA!
Soy de Perú y en 15 días estaré visitando esta ciudad, con solo ver el vídeo ya me siento algo identificada, la arquitectura, este toque europeo ❤️ un respiro
Nora wrote - Beautiful! I love St. Augustine I wish I could move there. I did live there for 11 years. You have no idea what youre talking about. Its a terrible place to live for many reasons. A simple youtube video has no ability to inform you what its like to live day to day in a given locality.
+J Utah BEAUTIFUL. I'm from the Boston area, and while I love summertime in New England, winters are becoming too much (not a novel concept, I know). But, I'm looking at wintering in the St Augustine area, and judging by the beautiful architecture, the history, etc., this looks like the place for me (sooooo not looking for a place like Miami). The one question I had: Are there a few camp grounds in the area? I'm assuming so, but wondered if you have any suggestions or know of the quality/reputation of some in the area? Thanks.
This city was founded by Spanish colonists and under Spanish control for over 300 years until British gained it in late 1700s and held it until Spanish regained it in early 1800s then USA gained it in early 1800s with purchase treaty
oldest continuously occupied European established city not oldest city, there are many cities older than that by natives and also like 3 other older European established cities but they are not occupied a few hundred years older
oldest continuously inhabited european established city* not oldest european established city sorry about that, because there are older european established cities than this in the US such as Pensacola, Fort Caroline, etc but this is the oldest continuously inhabited and the other ones either failed and abanomded or destroyed by other european power or natives
Great job on the video! My son lives there and we have been visiting St.A. for a week at a time for the past 30+ years . It really is a tremendous place with a million things to see and do. I don’t know what time of the year this was, but I have never see the city with so few people and cars although I’m sure today with the COVID situation it is even emptier. If you haven’t visited St. A. you owe it to yourself to go (when the coast is clear re: the virus). You won’t be disappointed and while you’re there, don’t forget to visit Hazel’s Hotdogs (hint - it’s not downtown. Go exploring and find it).
I lived and worked there too, I'm from Green Cove Springs and I moved to St Augustine in 2005 and rented my first apartment near downtown St Aug. I miss those days dearly. Hello from Kansas City, Missouri!
Gud morning 🌞😎 video We was there this pass Sunday It's been the longest since my both Parents pass on we spend the whole day st Augustine city so Beautiful city beach 🌞 lovly Gift stores will come back love We glad to see
Wow!! So this is how I get to see the heart of St. Augustine for the first time in the two years we’ve been here. I’ve been wanting to go see the fountain of youth. But since we came during the beginning of the pandemic, we haven’t gone site seeing in the old town. Just to Ayara’s for sushi.
Nice tour! Thanks. What camera did you use? My wife and I will be visiting for the first time late December...to watch the holiday lights and find some great tapas and sangria.
They probably just have it there for decorations. I don't think they have an active Spanish population (people from Spain). That being said. I don't even know if the Spanish flag was even the same today as it was when St. Augustine was founded.
It was white with a red cross. Florida's current state flag is modeled after the old Spanish flag. There are many Hispanics and a few Spaniards here and there, but they're kind of reclusive. They just keep to themselves mostly.
nope, actually people here are proud of Spain and many descendants of the original Spanish colonists live in the area and so do some Spaniards from Spain and latinos
+. There are homeless people there. Well, not homeless people in the traditional sense. These are mostly 20 and 30 somethings that appear to be homeless. They kinda just hang around up and down St.George St. and lay in the grass at Plaza de la Constitucion. I spend every chance I get in St. Augustine (3-4 times a month) and they have never bothered me or asked for money. I just don't like seeing them just hanging around. It kinda takes away from the atmosphere. But I guess they got to be somewhere.
To date, the Spanish occupied St Augustine longer than other other nation. The reason for all the flags and banners though is St Augustine had just had a huge 450th celebration. The king and queen of Spain came to visit for the festivities.
I believe it is the oldest town in the U.S it was originally colonized by the Spaniards twice and in between it was colonized by the Brits, but the town was founded and erected by Spain.
Great video I don't know if your interested in or have videos of Sarasota, Palm beach and Miami Areas if so I think they will be in depth and awesome like this one. thanks for showing this video its amazing.
+Jeremiah Jackson Very much appreciate comments like these! Was recently in Sarasota and will be uploading the video soon. More to come and stay tuned :)

@C caymer You don't know what you're talking about. $1000 will not get you a two bedroom here. St AUgustine is seriously lacking in affordable rentals. Most small rentals start in 1200-1300 IF you can find one. Most jobs here pay min wage up to ten an hour. Retail and services, unless you are in the medical field. The city is corrupt and full of entitled rich old twats. The homeless are taking over downtown. I am leaving this shit hole soon.
Is the cost of living High? Some places that are touristy are very expensive even for basic life. I need to get away from ghetto people this place looks nice. I saved up $200,000 cash to buy a property. So I need something that has low property taxes so I can manage it
I love this video because this place looks very calm and relaxed and busy with decent middle-class active people. I didn't see one ghetto person sagging their pants in the whole video. This might be my next home.
It’s nice that you show the area but can you really show the neighborhoods how they really look how the houses look do you know are the mobile homes the trailer parks the hospitals are at neighborhoods nobody ever shows that

I can tell you filmed this during the week----on the weekends the tourists come, and our roads are jam-packed.
I love St.Augustine ❤️❤️❤️❤️

True !!
You've convinced me, John. I'm moving there.
Everyone's situation is different. Just because it wasn't a good place for you doesn't mean it won't be for someone else.
This is why I love St. Augustine downtown area.
+Barbara Cabral Same here :)

Beautiful little city.
The weather was cloudy and rainy thank God was not raining at thee beach 🌞🙏❤️ ly to we did have to see the Castle next time the Castle oh yes.
Thanks 😘 for your lovely video 👌
Wonderful! Another historical U.S. city - Small is beautiful. Far better to live there than in anonymous big metropolis
OK, but this is not a big problem: all Americans have a car
marco brenni also the city out of downtown is dirty and run down, very conservative too. Roads are old and run down, little to no true unique stores.
Thank you. I get to visit without even leaving my computer chair!
Donut shop, eating area outside, gift shop ,amen
Thanks, and thanks for no radio or talking .. I love St. A ... been many times.. will be back
Very nice tour. Takes me back to my youth; when my family vacationed there every year.

Quaint walkable place, probably worth a visit.
I've been to saint Augustine Florida only 1 time for a helicopter tour. It's really nice down there
Spanish colony, so glad to see people honours the old flag there

There are more than 58,000,000 American Latinos, all of whom have some Spanish Blood...

Nothing like cruising thru the Oldest city with your windows down
Where would you recommend for 2 senior women to stay for 6 days? Did I just see a Hilton smack in downtown? My friend cannot climb stairs.
Reminds me of downtown Riverside CA .🤗🤗🤗
Looks like very safe and nice town, i dont see any homeless. I don't know about at the end i only saw the beginning part of this video.

+. its not like eroupa beautfil than eroupa erouopa very bad and boring
Huge homeless community in St. A
why spanish flags every corner of the street??
+The Biggest Controversy I believe is was founded by explorers from Spain. Lots of history to see there! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Augustine,_Florida

We did ride the car then parking lot
And did some walking and talk to some neighbors there it's a beautiful city to retire 😊😁😎 day
Love the pirate house there
Where is St Augustine near to on the east coast? Naples, ft myers? Thanks
not even close. Naples and fort myers are in southwest florida. This is in northeast florida. About 40 minutes south of Jacksonville.
South of Jacksonville, North of Daytona
Right next to Miami

I’m there right now this is exactly what I saw
what does those red and yellow flags signify?
Bienvenido a Latinoamérica 😄 Welcome to Latin America
