Just to let you know , the precision landing on the fimi x8 required the gimbal to be faced down during landing. It uses the main camera to detect landing pads as it descends ( will detect it on the fpv feed and mark it ) and it will fly to it. As it lands then it raises the gimbal automatically
Love my X8. Have 122 flights and 355 crash-free flight miles on it. 2 reasons I’d take the X8 over the Mavic Mini: I don’t fly drones that can be flight-restricted by the manufacturer (i.e. DJI), and I prefer my drones to be larger than a candy bar so I can see them better.
Isn't it limited to 500metres up? Or do you mean something else?

@@v0VeNoM0v No, it means the manufacturer can prevent you from taking off via the flight controller software. Instead of trusting the pilot to fly responsibly, like most manufacturers, DJI can restrict your flight if it senses you’re violating rules (like launching too close to an airport, military base, etc). When Remote ID goes into effect in 2023, DJI can even prevent launches from ANYWHERE if it senses the drone is not equipped with a RID module. I’ll never buy DJI because of this.

Holger Schäfer , he gives honest reviews, that’s why he didn’t get one would be my guess, all the reviewers just went on and on with all the good things but didn’t really tell about the bad things. In a way it’s almost a compliment to captain drone that he didn’t receive one really. This is my go to guy for any drone review and most other rc stuff.

Tell me now what do you think of it... I'm not asking you in terms of obstacle avoidance (as it simply don't have any :P) but in terms of reversed engineering stolen from DJI and the others... Did you noticed the blurry spot in the right middle and right middle to up right corner (watch carefully how the details are blurry in the mentioned area and compared with sharpness of the of the whole frame it is blurry exactly there)... Keep in mind that this is a software glitch and I'm stating it clearly because there is no such thing in still images mode and I've already checked that there is no such thing in any still picture (even the DNG format ones...)... ;)

Great review, thanks. I’ve had my X8 for 4 months and have flown it 87km (not on 1 flight 🤣... but yes, it tracks cumulative distance flown). No toilet bowl, long flight times, range out to 3.4km (so far), and great photos/video for this price point. I also looked at Mavic 2 and Hubsan Zino as I was ready to move up from Hubsan H501ss... but couldn’t be happier with my decision to go with the X8. If you’re looking for a great drone around the US$425 price point, this is an excellent choice.
Awesomeness! I just bought one too from Banggood at their special black Friday deal they had on it but they only offered 100 of them at the deal and they where gone in only 12 minutes! I am super happy I was waiting for the countdown timer because I would have missed the discounted price :-) I am VERY excited to get it! I have been comparing this against EVERYTHING out there and I could not find anything else better unless I went up to almost double the price. I think the best footage I have seen comes from the Skydio 2, but they are really really hard to get hold of in the UK. You'd be waiting months. Amazing follow you technology though. Mind blowing.
Afternoon Captain Drone. I've had my X8 for 6 months now and... I LOVE IT! Over the pond, you can pick it up for around £400, which at less than half the price of a Mavic Pro is an absolute steal! I invested in a spare battery and a hardshell case when I bought mine and this gives me great portability and roughly an hours flying time. Recharge is around 2 hours per battery but with this sort of flight time, you really don't worry. I can't recommend this drone high enough if you're looking to take the next step up from your £50/ $60 league but baulk at shelling out for a Mavic. The only thing I wish it had? Terrain avoidance but a small price to pay for the features versus price. Happy flying!
Hello Mr Hayward, I have a total noob question about the fimi x8 se, maybe you can help?
I take delivery of this expensive (to me) new thing next Thursday, after only flying a toy a few times up to now. Been doing my homework but...a problem with my phone caused the toy to crash and now I'm wary of even unboxing the Fimi!
My Samsung Android drops wifi completely randomly sometimes, always at the worst times :( Only a full phone restart will restore. If this TOTAL and IRRETRIEVABE LOSS OF WIFI occurs in flight, will the Fimi x8 se automatically RTH?

@@hgwells1899 To be honest and without searching RUclips or read ing instructions I'm not sure. When I bought mine I went the whole hog and bought a new 4g tablet. You get a much better view of what's going on.

Yes, the firmware updates something cause problems but they fix it....hopefully with the next update.
The camera improved a lot and it is 100% worth the money.
I have had my X8SE since February and love it. I just recently took it to lanzarote to do some filming of the island and me going up some volcanoes on rented e bikes in follow me mode. It's a great drone.
I'm new to drones.. do I need wifi to use this machine?
@@tearitloosetearitloose4670 I think you can fly it just with the controller without a phone in it. I only ever fly it with a android phone with 4g connection connected to the controller so the App, maps and the view of what your looking at from the drone is on the phone screen.
I guess because of its weight, you need to register it with FAA or Transport Canada or the Transport Government in your country to be able to pilot it legally no?
@@MaximumDiver if your that way inclined and feel the need to register your drone and it's over 250grams then yes you will.

The dji Mavic mini is currently a lot cheaper than the Fimi X8 SE in Australia, I will be going with the dji for sure.

I agree! Because of this channel I just ordered the Bugs 4W , incredible beginner drone. Captain Drone is a very pleasant guy to listen too as well.
As the owner of a Xiaomi Mi 4K since 10/2018 I can attest to the quality of their products however I would caution prospective buyers about their lack of customer service and parts availability. They dropped the Mi 4K like a hot potato and changed their brand name to Fimi as if the name brings reassurance. Great products, short attention span!

@@LivingTech It sounds like you answered your own question. I'm not an expert on the FAA rules but it seems like you would have a lot more freedom without being bound by FAA rules.
@@LivingTech Do you have part 107 certification? I considered it but found that you actually have many more restrictions under part 107. I decided not to pursue it. I'm just a hobbyist, don't charge or sell my videos, so it seems counterintuitive for me to put additional rules on myself.

Great review, I bought a Fimi X8 SE 2020 off your review. £362.00 with a spare battery, 2 spare sets of propellers and the waterproof bag supplied by Banggood. The drone has surpassed my expectations, even in windy conditions, it's very stable, and flies very well. I have only had it a couple of weeks, so there is still a lot more to do with it, but first impressions.... WOW!
My house slowly filling up with Xiaomi stuff lately, Smart Phone, bed light , Smart box , Car Dash cam and few other things, I really love this thing, I been looking at the DJI mini that came out lately, but this thing is awesome , Great review mate. Need to talk to the boss (lil wife)to see if we can get it lol
The FIMI SE8 is a great drone, now the price will really make it a great valve and drone

I have this drone since last June and is a little beast . I have reached 4 km with him but there are People that had reached 6 km .

No doubt the fimi x8 se is a solid drone. Many videos I've seen proove this. It looks good as well. Great for someone looking for a bigger drone. The mavic mini is $30 more and comes with 3 batteries, the multi charger, case and all the other stuff. So mini probably still a better value if you don't want the 4k and extra app features

at 200 meters the video lags here and there ...

I have owned the X8 for 3 months now and couldn't be happier, I am still learning all l the quirks and features, but it's a solid drone. I am super impressed with the support that comes from fimi, I have had 3 updates so far and coming from a Chinese company, it makes me feel a little better knowing that they still have their customers in mind.
It took me 2 months to get this from banggood so know that, and that wait was worth it, but not appreciated. That being said, you want at least 2 batteries, 3 would be ideal, and you probably want to order them at the same time as the drone because they ship from China, even the ones on Amazon. I also got the backpack and a gimbal guard, I recommend both of these too.
Finally, this can do up to 100Mb/s so don't cheap out on the memory card. I did about 45 mins of flying @4k just to come up with about 5mins of usable footage.
One thing I want to add about cinematic, is that it accelerates and brakes slower, so if you are nearing an object you need to stop sooner or you'll end up testing the durability of the drone

In the city i have the drone problem is he always getting home after 700 or 800 meters i dont know why and writes range to 5000 meters..i see a lot of people in europe flying with that drone a lot of distance.

Despite being a 4k camera, the image quality is not as good as that of the Mavic mini. There are many videos on RUclips where you can verify this. That's why I chose the Mavic mini. And I'm not sorry!
The only issue i have with mini is flying in high wind speeds it does not return back

I will get the mini, reason is the practical stuff like usb charging with out any special brick. and ofc I get 3 batteries and a powerbank sort of in the flymore. also if you have fcc it's about the same range.
I agree with you mate, It's a great drone but it weighs over 250 grams the mini is only 249 so dont need to take the online test and I can take it mostly anywhere 👍 I'll still have to save up though lol 👍
I Will buy used mavic pro... In my country you can get them used(in100% condition) from 500€ with 2 betries... Maybe after Xmas they will drop to 400€(used)
You know the issues with mavic mini, 2.7k, less sensors, no manual mode for camera, no C-log/d-log, only 40mbit video... That is not worth 400€ in my opinion.
And camera on xiaomi is not good enough
X8 has 4k 100mbits tho

@@CarnisChampion just know that, USB charging is much slower than charging with a dedicated charger, I keep an inverter in my car so I can charge between shots while driving, if I even need to do that.
On the strength of your review, I bought my bro one of these. It didn't arrive in time for Xmas though, and I'm still waiting for two spare battery packs and a set of prop guards to arrive. But his b-day is this month, so no sweat. He's not a beginner as he used a Phantom IV for some video work 2 years ago.

It's one of the best drone for it's price....
Ordered one thru Banggood last Saturday after seeing this review and many others on RUclips and in print. CA is not a big deal for me since I will be using it mostly for panoramic views, unless I become an "R-teast". This camera also appears to have better 4K video quality with better saturation and less sharpening artifact pixilation than the DJI MM or M when comparing them on another RUclips 1080 video. Post-processing of the video or photos should take care of any problems as well. I also like that the camera has a Sony digital image sensor. I have a Sony Alpha II SLR with 25 megapixels and it takes great photos. This Drone should almost be able to lift it! Thanks CAPTAIN DRONE for your review.

I have owned this drone for about 8 months or so now. It is simply the best bang for the buck you can get. Great camera, the range is outstanding, takes very high winds and works at sub zero temps with no problem. Highly recommend. Check out it's big brother the 4k mi drone as well (a beast).
how do you find the tracking? on one of the other reviews - (dustin who does loads of drone reviews) the tracking functions where REALLY poor, kept losing its target all the time.
24 minutes with that use of sport mode during your flight isn’t bad at all for a drone that huge. It’s got brushless motors and maybe master air screw makes some solid props for it, I’m just not a fan of those foldable props, use solid ones on my spark, they seem to make a noticeable difference in performance to me. Liking that controller as well!
I’ve flown both of these drones and here’s my conclusion. Mavic Mini has better range, better hardware, a much better app and more flexibility with what you can do with the drone because of it being under 250 grams and getting ND filters and accessories. The Fimi X8 SE has a better flight time and a slightly sharper image. So the Mavic Mini has more advantages which is why it is now my daily driver

For 4k video this is the drone to beat on a budget at least. Closest rivals are the husban zino (not as good) or the mavic air (more expensive)
I find it really deceiving that the black thing on the front gives the impression that it's some kind of obstacle detection. Otherwise, it's pretty good especially with the price
When I first saw that on the front that was what I assumed and would have probably convinced me to get one of these rather than a Mavic Mini, but I don't see that as being quite enough reason to go off-brand.
I commented while back wh3n I bought a3. Well distance matters to me so I bought this x8 now an it sure does go far! Love it
Thanks for all the great videos my friend. After more than two years of watching, waiting, and researching I ALMOST pulled the trigger on this one. Then today I went a bit crazy and ordered the Mavic 2 Zoom AND...wait for it...the Power Egg! 🤣 I bought the Zoom because I just kept coming back to that old axiom, you get what you pay for. Every other drone out there just felt like a compromise in one way or another. I still think the price of the DJI drones is rather stratospheric, but I didn’t feel like I was compromising which made me feel a bit more comfortable with the cost. And I bought the Egg because, well, it’s just so funky cool! And at $349 from B&H it seemed like a relative steal. Both drones arrive this week. Looking forward to enjoying each one. Thanks again for all the great knowledge you’re imparting to the community. Your videos have been super helpful during the decision making process. Keep up the great work.

Very interesting drone. I would always calibrate the compass and the gyros before my first flight after unboxing. I did fly my H+ without doing that but it had been calibrated within 15 miles of home before I first flew it but I did, at first chance, get the wife to help with all the rotating it takes for compass calibration. Also, love the shoes!!! I have what looks like the exact same shoes sitting under my desk at my side, even the same blue color. Great video, as always!😎👌

Being disabled, my contact with the world is mainly through the internet and predominately RUclips apart from when an old friend takes me out for a drive, sorry for any offence. Justin.

As a pensioner now into my seventies I was looking for something that would take me beyond my chair, and a drone would give me some degree of independence. @@pencils1951 Justin, no offence taken. In Canada (even though we are a stone's through away from the US) prices are massively high. When I first entered this hobby my drone was $100 and had none of the features we have today. The masses all want the latest and greatest which is going to run you in the $1600 US price category. The reason I show low cost drones on my channel (sub $200) is because I'd like more people to get into the hobby at a reasonable price.
Excellent review, I'm really waiting for your review of the Mavic Mini though. That's the drone I am holding out for for my first drone ever.

A couple of imperial stickers and you will have the storm trooper edition jaja...i like that drone so much and is the next i gonna have before christmas...i don't care about the weight thats not a problem here were i live and i don't like mini drones too much neither...a great value one for what it can do.

Good drone I am afraid to invest in a drone because I can’t fly the Mavic pro that I already have because I am in an airport zone so by me keeping my updates current on Mavic I cannot fly my drone from my backyard around my neighborhood so that took all the fun out of it

@@peterdoane4961 Can confirm it is (my 2018 version). There were times wind picked up and I got very worried, but it performed like a champ, wouldn't trust a Mavic Mini to that.

There is no real registration. At least I didn't had to do much. Only fill in an email address.

Well I Went With smaller, less preset modes ,less capable Beginner DRONE But To Me 3 letters Makes Up for it DJI! For someone who has always Looked up To The Best Brand Name in Dones,did I pay for a Brand New Possible, but I can't wait to get it, and let it do what it does!Thanks Captain

You forgot one thing. SAR mode. There is a 3x digital zoom and the coordinates are displayed where the drone is currently located.

Last I saw banggood.com had it for $411... I got mine through them and it arrived in the timeframe they estimated and in good condition.
Cool drone, but definitely doesn't look like 4k. The Mavic mini's 2.7k looks much better than this footage. I'd pick one up if it was $100 cheaper.. or if the camera produced better quality.
A great drone, I guess it has a life of four years tonight it spun in from 120 meters or so , I got a message saying strong vibration then it started to spin 730 pm not likely a hawk strike , I noticed that over 4 years drone was prone to that message quite a few times, prop or motor problem is what I think, main frame has a crack ware arm connects so going to scrap it. If prop is out of balance it would be likely to cause a vibrations . To bad it was a good drone.
The mini still is under 250 gr which help with legal issues. If you go bigger, Mavic is still the choice because of legal compliance.

Once you get one you'll be hooked. But get a quality one. The cheap ones will turn you away from the sport. Go with DJI Mini or Mini 2, at least the Spark. Perfect little drones.

my only problem with this drone is... that you have to register it and do the "safety course" just to fly it... welcome to the future
Same in Italy (we must register drone and do an online exam) We also have the problem of the EASA (the European Aviation Authority) regulation...
Fortunately in US we only have to register the heavier ones (more than Mavic Mini) and if we dot use the drone for "income" we do not have to get "Pilot's" license. Understand if you use for business or one of the larger drones then testing and license required. I'm waiting for Fimi 2020 to arrive and ordered an E58 with 0.3mp camera to learn on and crash since I got it for $38 delivered to Texas. Sure an expert will chime in and give us more specifics on Registering and Pilot's License requirements.

1:25 - Larger props + lower KV + higher voltage = significantly longer flight times. I've done hundreds of hours of research in development on this.
£465+ on amazon UK if they have them, not many! $499 on Ali express. Mavic mini £365 on amazon UK at the moment plenty stock. Good video man, thanks

This thing is massive! Don't kid yourself if you think it's better than the mini-the most crucial thing which differentiates DJI drones from most others lie in the software.
On waypoints: "I'm not going to do it, I don't have a lot of time right now."...huh?

@Richardo Franzie Airforce brat hear. Dad was strategic air command. I'm a old RC flyer. 45 years into it. I fly drones more so now. Potensic D68 , Potensic Dreamer 4K PRO and my DJI Mavic Air 2. They are my favorites.
