    Remember the GVG video about how the Wii U was a downgrade for playing Wii games? I hope Jon doesn't have to roll in the grass again...

    • @PikaPhantomVG
      @PikaPhantomVG 17 дней назад +53

      Wii U handled backwards compatibility by essentially having a built-in Wii, which is essentially why Wii mode was separate. This has been the case for basically all of Nintendo's systems - in fact, the 3DS still has some bits of the GBA inside due to being built to have DS backwards compatibility, which they only ever leveraged as part of the Ambassador program. The Switch successor leaks haven't uncovered a similar setup, though, so it seems very likely it'll be the first Nintendo system to run its predecessor's games directly on the new hardware (especially with Nvidia supplying a new and improved successor to their Switch chip)

      That's situational. If you still have a good CRT or early HD TV and Wii then that's the best way. But if you have a relatively recent HDTV, Wii games on a Wii are unbearable with the aliasing and fuzziness. Wii U fixes this issue so while its not the best way, its still an acceptable compromise.

      the only Wii games that were better off being played on the original Wii instead were the ones that supported Gamecube controllers, like Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. You could make the argument about using the Wii classic controller instead but there are some games out there too that support ONLY the Gamecube controller but not the classic controller like sonic riders zero gravity.
      Aside from that, you are better off playing these games on a WiiU, I personally don't due to me having save data corruption issues with my WiiU due to external issues, and me already owning a Wii anyway

    Tears of the Kingdom and Xenoblade 3 are the two games I will instandly replay on Switch 2, the other first party games looked and ran well enough. I hope they give Tears of the Kingdom a proper remaster with updated visuals though, the game was already a miracle on the Switch, but it has massive potential to set the world on fire again when they re-release it with current-gen visuals.

    To be fair we don't know if the Switch 2 will run the Switch 1 games enhanced without a patch. The New 3DS didn't run any Old 3DS game released before the New 3DS better. It even undercooked itself to match the normal 3DS iirc.

    • @SkyDX
      @SkyDX 14 дней назад +3

      This is a bit of a Apples to Oranges comparison I feel though. Technically the DS and the 3DS ran in ways that demanded specific instructions etc. from the chip. The 3DS basically had an evolved DS chip so the 3DS could "devolve" itself to a DS to achieve perfect backwards compatibility.
      Modern hardware behaves differently, games aren't tied too hard to super specific chip designs anymore so the Switch 2 should have no need to become a Switch 1 to run Switch 1 games so Jon is right, games that run unlocked in some way should notice the additional headroom unless Nintendo artificially caps it.

The steam deck, which is between the ps4 and pro is 400$, so the switch 2 will be a spowerful as it, right? Well no. The switch has both an included dock and a cart reader, which accumulates to 100$ taken off specs. So unless its like 450-500, it'll be at or slightly under the PS4 mark.

    Age of Calamity was the first game that came to my mind. It's especially jarring when you compare it to Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition, which, in single player on the big screen, runs extremely smoothly pretty much all the time.
    Minor note:
    Xenoblade Chronicles 2 also has a dynamic resolution, so, while I would love to see a patch to have it run at 1080p natively on the TV, the Switch 2 would still boost it to a consistent 720p at least, which it certainly doesn't always hit right now.

    • @lpfan4491
      @lpfan4491 16 дней назад

      Fire Emblem Three Hopes also comes to mind. While a lot better optimized than Age of Calamity, it suffers from a similar overall issue. It targets 60 FPS but can barely hold 30 at most times and only randomly deciding to run at near full FPS when it just sorta feels like it. The result is a game that sometimes feels wildly diffrent(for the better, having full FPS is a lot smoother and responsive it feels like) every once in a while with nothing the player can do to influence it.

    I think we actually can expect improved image quality even in Xenoblade 2, because most of the blurriness is due to dynamic resolution, not low texture quality. Since it's dynamically reducing the resolution in response to limited resources, on a more powerful system it should automatically look much better.

    • @lpfan4491
      @lpfan4491 16 дней назад

      I thought the blurriness was due to the type of Anti Aliasing they use, lmao. That won't magically go away, if anything it is more noticable on higher resolution to the point people made a mod to remove it for Xenoblade DE.(There were also mods or cheats for the other games, but Iirc, they either didn't work correctly or were not correctly updated for newer game versions. It has been months since I checked tho)

    • @st0rmchild
      @st0rmchild 16 дней назад

      @@lpfan4491 There are probably multiple factors. It definitely does use dynamic resolution though, and it's probably the worst example of it (goes down to what…320p at times?). I think it'll benefit much more than, say, Wolfenstein II, which will almost certainly still look like someone smeared the screen with vaseline (because the texture quality is quite bad).

Everything from Platinum like Astral Chain, Wonderful101, Bayo 3 to all of the Nintendo Musou games, to Pokemon, Xenoblade series, all of the impossible ports like Doom, Wolfenstien, Witcher 3, Hogwarts Legacy. Then we got the first party games made by third party studio like Echoes, Brothership, and Endless ocean Luminous. there are also way too many Square Enix games that chugs on the Switch to list that needs upgrading. My only thing with the switch 2 is I hope we either get a bunch of storage off the bat or can still use sd cards. It was so simple to add storage to the switch and I know adding an ssd to console isn’t the hardest thing but I prefer how easy and cheap a micro sd card is

    So how would better hardware improve the loading speed from physical games exactly? Won't the original switch carts still be limited by the read speed of the carts themselves? I guess if the new switch has internal high speed storage it could be possible to install the game files onto the switch itself (if they give you the option for this), but i don't think you can just plug in a switch cart and expect better loading times here...

    Yeah, the 3DS had this too with DS games, but not to the same scale. The load times were actually faster on a 3DS then on an original DS.

    I’m hoping that Bayonetta 3 will be able to run at a consistent framerate, since the fact that it was 60 fps and yet stuttered constantly made it a bit of a slog to play compared to its predecessors. And there’s also Xenoblade 2, which is a sharpened mess in handheld mode, and so I’m also hoping an upgrade would be able to rectify that.

    Pie in the sky wish: every first party game gets one last major update. On top of a next gen upgrade, content that either the developers always wanted or the fans have been begging for since launch get added to make these games "content complete" for a new generation to pick up, possibly at a discount.

    The recent Bakeru (basically a new Legend of the Mystical Ninja game) is one that I hope gets a smoother framerate.
    Also, Monster Hunter Rise. Don't get me wrong, it looks fantastic for the Switch... too good for the resolution it runs at, in my opinion. I feel like it needs to be freed from its jaggies to an extent.

      hopefully its the same as the 3ds. The slot would basically the same the new carts would just be designed to not fit in a switch 1. I can't really imagine nintendo abandoning physical media just yet

    • @johnpolishimpossible2say191
      @johnpolishimpossible2say191 17 дней назад +1

      @catmachete2900 they confirmed they aren't abandoning physical media a couple months ago. They did make a statement on that. However with the Switch 2 needing cards that support bigger file sizes for these games I'm assuming it'll be new media. But maybe it'll be like the 3ds and still work.

    • @Greekanese31
      @Greekanese31 17 дней назад +7

      When Nintendo says "software" they mean "games". Nintendo would not release the statement they did if they were going to qualify it later with "digital software-only". Physical cartridges are thus confirmed backwards compatible for Switch 2. Given that the Switch 2 is likely to use the same Switch cartridges, just the higher capacity version, it likely shares the same slot

    • @johnpolishimpossible2say191
      @johnpolishimpossible2say191 16 дней назад

      @Greekanese31 are you sure tho? Software could just mean it's compatible to run Switch software...not necessary physical if they don't have the slot for it. Could just be digital emulation

    • @friendlyotaku9525
      @friendlyotaku9525 16 дней назад

      Of course they mean physical, the Switch 2 isn't going to be digital-only, it'll have physical cartridges much like the current Switch, in fact the cartridges will probably look exactly the same.

    People keep saying Pokémon runs like crap due to the switch’s power but that isn’t true at all
    People have emulated the game on PC and the issues are still present. The bad performance is just part of the actual games code, people had to hack the game to increase performance.

      I will never understand the people who defend Scarlet and Violet. No matter how good or bad the story might be the state that game was released in is beyond unacceptable. I would quite literally rather have every member of the Pokémon company break down my door and slap me in the face than play that absolute mess, because at least I wouldn’t have to sacrifice hard earned money to get slapped in the face.

    • @justjoshing1771

      @@manuelalbertoromero9528 what he means is that the Pokémon company sees that they still make record profits even if the game is released in a terrible unfinished state. They no longer need to put effort into the game because profit is a guarantee. It’s a devastatingly true thing. If it were any other franchise than Pokémon, Scarlet and Violet would be so lambasted and would be a massive financial failure, but since it’s the Pokémon company, you have people defending it and saying oh but it’s fine or oh, but it has a good story.

      Absolutely, that game is unoptimized and glitchy beyond belief. And even if it does SOMEHOW (won’t happen) run well, the game still looks like shit (low quality textures) including visual glitches like shadows changing with the camera angle, that won’t get fixed with a change of hardware

  • @nintoforgi
    @nintoforgi 17 дней назад

    Oh btw, just purely putting the raw Switch 1 cart into a more powerful system shouldn't improve the load times that much I wouldn't think. For sure the Animal Crossing example is definitely not achievable without patching or a native port, assuming that part of how they got BotW loading that fast is from having it run natively (which you have to assume if it's running faster and at a higher resolution than the Switch)

    I hope Nickelodeon All-star Brawl 2 gets a switch 2 performance patch because man it runs so weirdly
    I know that's 3rd party for a practically dead game, literal death because everyone got fired, not because whatever Smash Fanboys think it means, but I really like that game and I think it needs to be able to be enjoyed to its full potential by its biggest playerbase, Switch users
