- Basically the end of Rain Worlds story, but it takes place at the end of the Saints Campaign, this one was something else. Enjoy!

So basically, the Saint is stuck in the world, constantly looping and unable to ascend, because he wanted to help everyone else ascend. Everyone, even the Iterators, get to have their happy ending except for him, and he's probably already accepted that.
Man just send shiver down my spine, when i first saw him i thought he was some sort of weakling making its way to ascend like other slugcat, glad i was wrong.
Yeah, you can't fully ascend til you get rid of all your Earthly attachments...but Saint can't leave anyone behind, wants to save everyone. He's too attached to the world, but not for his own sake-for the empathy he feels for other living beings. That's his chain.
What abt artificier? Arti cant ascend because her karma is stuck from hating the scavangers so much … right?
@@SecondTheScoundrel Yes, artificer is stuck in a loop. She can't escape. Depending on your ending she doesn't even want to. To ascend you need to let go of, in order...
Violence. It traps you in a vicious cycle of endless reprisal and counter reprisal. The more you hurt the more you want to hurt them which makes them want to hurt you back.
Lust. Not always romantic, but a strong desire for any specific thing. So strong you're not able to go on without it. Saint actually starts their run on this Karma level because they have an overwhelmingly sympathetic nature to help others.
Community. Attachment to the material world, your family, and society as a whole. A desire to be seen, heard, and appreciated by others.
Gluttony. The love of self and the satisfying of our own desires, potentially taken to unhealthy extremes.
Self. The last thing to let go of it simply ones own entire existence. Even the act of wanting to ascend, is itself, an attachment that can prevent fully accomplishing it.
The final karma symbol, the X, represents the act of "crossing oneself out" as a final act.

Saint has to have the saddest, yet most likely self-inflicted, outcome of any of the characters. While Pebbles is a close second, Saint manages to just have an interlinked message of hopelessness with it. And the climax of swimming through the white void with Pulse playing really makes it feel like Saint is never gonna have a true happy ending for itself. Out of all the theories, Saint being a Bodhisattva really makes him feel like a much more interesting character and is definitely simultaneously the saddest and most wholesome thing. But hey, at least Monk finally got a good ending!

@@omegaxxzmega8266 Someone who achieved Nirvana, but turned it down to help others achieve it instead. Nirvana in this case is ascending.
I think the echoes we meet are probably the saddest as it seems they will never ascend or be destroyed. They are quite literally infinite. On the other hand the saints work will eventually end, and maybe they will ascend once there truly is nothing keeping them behind.
Not say is bodhisattva nirvana style but similar, at least buddha have the control to wether enters nirvana or not. It his choice, but for saint he have no choice but to help others

Edit, scratch that, it's in F minor, which is the same key signature as C major, I'm just a little bit dumb. Still starts on middle C
Do you know what the backwards sounding music from the end section is? I'm having trouble finding it in the soundtrack
I think Saint's empty Karma dial at the very end, after all the Karma has drained from him, is the true lowest Karma, and the real reason why he can't ascend. On a level above the Karma we see, hinted at by the conversation between FP and LttM after ascending them both, Saint's Karmic Cycle is bigger than the daily cycles they experience. Even as beings that don't slumber, the Iterators are aware of the cycles, sunk into it, but unable to escape it.
When you start the game with any character, you always start at the Violence Karma. Why, then, does the violence karma symbol disappear and leave the empty ring for the Karma gauge as they drain from Saint?
Because Saint has taken the lowest Karma of all as his burden. He denies himself at a fundamental level. He has taken the burden of ascension, at the most fundamental level, and is trapped in that loop indefinitely until he ascends all others. But this might not even be his final Karma, as there is one step below even that, which is the death of the Cycle completely. In Buddhist terms, Śūnyatā. In English, void. Nothing. Not Void Fluid. Not the solvent of all matter from the game. But Ego Dissolution. And that can only happen when there is no other ego left to save.
He tried so hard... and yet...
He knew it was never going to happen.
Saint’s ending was so well-done that I was completely shocked at the end of my playthrough despite already knowing exactly what was going to happen XD
Same I already watched a streamer play it before deciding to play this game myself and I was still speechless after saint’s ending. Felt like a religious experience.

didn’t know a game could make me sadder than the saddest thing ever today, but apparently this game is all it takes to do that.
this is the most spectacular ending in rain world. if i could guess, after the ending ends saint turned into a semi-echo because after the ending in menu his icon looks like an echo but not completly because of the other shape

And it seems to be half damaged. I wonder if that's Moon rebuilding her superstructure or another Iterator that just died.

@@CutMeSomeSlackTheVII how could that possibly be pebbles? We know from that tower FP would have been to the right. He's also already collapsed and it is way too far to be him. We have seen that specific iterator before from his wall. There's no way that's him.
Increase the quality. there are others. But there's less now and who remains have their cans tilted probably because their legs are falling aprt
@@CutMeSomeSlackTheVII I’m very sure it is not, 5 pebbles has collapsed into the shaded citadel, and his chamber is below the clouds where weather touches him. I don’t believe he could be seen above the clouds.

I think Saint realizes that he'd rather not ascend, last minute. It is said one does not usually come back after entering the void, well, Saint did just that. Came back, and is therefore the solution to the tripple affirmative, as it was impossible to solve because how could you know you found the right answer if you don't even know what it looks like if you are actually right? That is primarily why the Iterator's task was a pointless one. Welp, apparently all it takes is have a creature so karmically in-tune that it gains the ability to ascend other beings, and does just that, but apparently at a void worm. The only thing I do not understand however is why he turns from being all Echo-y to being his normal self again. Is this something Echoes can just do?
I think it is instead that the entire journey is Saint's experience as an echo. Except Saint's attachment to the world is wanting to help other people ascend. This is impossible though, so it causes Saint's echo-ness to be significantly different than the others.
I think that the saint could have true ascension unlike any other creature before if it chose to let go of all attachment to the cycle, yet the attachment it has is its need to help other intelligent creatures reach a higher level/ break from the cycle (namely pebbles and moon). I agree that he either changed his mind last minute or never wanted to ascend truly at all, yet his attachment to the cycle wasn't through ego or selfishness but compassion for other beings, so he did not become trapped as an echo but simply returns as his own self, ready to begin his own cycle of helping intelligent life ascend once again in his own compassionate way, which is why it has the name "saint"; he is helping other creatures through his own self sacrifice of the ultimate goal of detachment from the mortal realm and true ascension. In Buddhism, a person of this quality is called a Bodhisattva.
I also think that his true goal at this point is to repeat the cycle until all the suffering iterators are set free, and the truest ending is one where you ascend both pebbles and moon.
During the void world, saint choose to use his power to ascend the void worm instead of letting void worm drag him to ascend, my guess is saint choses to stay and help others instead of ascend himself. Just like the buddha stay and help others to achieve enlightenment instead of entering nirvana himself.
My personal theory (warning, heavy speculation incoming) is that saint is just flipping off the void sea lol.
I imagine that the void, depths, and the entire idea of ascension is STUPIDLY unstable throughout all the campaigns, and is on the verge of imploding during saint’s campaign. Therefore why it tries to stop you from ascending, it could easily turn the entire place over and “”””kill”””” the void creatures. After for so long in the cycle and kinda just… chilling (HAHA PUN) with it, saint knows he has power to literally end what one calls ascension. Doing this, he turns into an echo, essentially meaning that he can collapse the void sea In every cycle.

Best platformer game I've ever played.
Rain World managed to make me tear up from finishing every slugcat campaign with this being the most emotional one
My ending glitched out into purple pillars, so seeing this was very helpful to know what I missed out on XD Wasn't wanting to replay the entire game just to see what I missed due to my visual bug lol

When i entered rubicon for the first time (i was only a little bit spoiled), i thought i would get a large place where i would walk around confused and find out some kind of plot, some lore for saint and the world of rain world itself. But all i got is the same platforming and survival amongst the most annoying and powerful of creatures, except in gold. Then i finally found the way out, went up and finished the campaign and was disappointed. It was quite short and i didnt get some info and atmosphere i thought i will get.
But a few minutes later as i was sitting there thinking about the ending i realised it was actually pretty much perfect for rain world. You never really get lore from the world itself if you arent trying to find any. It was confusing, a bit hard and very lonely, just like the rest of the game for other campaigns. But it was enough. Its not too different to feel weird and wrong.
So in conclusion i guess i was watching and reading too much lore videos and comments and made myself expect something too great and stereotypical. But it turned out to be just perfect

now all we need is an expansion that sees's the finishing of matinence mode for big sis moon and the rise of the slug-cat civilization (as well as a few other moments like maybe accompanying the last of the ancients or the finding of the void sea just to see the world before its fall)
I think that Saint being the "last slugcat in the timeline" means everybody else if dead.
He's the "triple affirmative".
I don't think slugcats will be the next civilization, it will most likely be the scavengers or, by chance, the orange lizards, as these 2 are literally everywhere in saint's campaign and are the most social

@@SexyJay I think he’s talking about artificer. Saint absolutely becomes and echo, showing us how becoming an echo looks. Artificer did something wrong, but it wasn’t getting echoed

No.
Saint is stuck repeating their journey in an endless cycle- it all comes full circle.
Very heavily summarized version of the theory explaining this: The void sea gives people what they most desire, and Saint wants to help other people ascend... but that is impossible, so the normal process of becoming an echo breaks or is circumvented, and it instead results in Saint being put back on their journey over and over and over again. Each time, Saint still chooses to return, when he bops the void worm with the ascension ability.

Just to clarify what’s happening isn’t them going back in time but returning to the point which they started their journey in as they were already in the void sea at the start of the game

I didn't do that in my first playthrough and I regret it badly.
This ending theft a gap in my soul
Heres an idea:
- Saint tries to ascend with full karma.
- Void worm notices how saint has a special ability to ascend others.
- Void worm somehow controls saint into using that ability on itself with the desire to ascend
- Somehow, this causes saint to lose karma mid-ascension
- Because now Saint doesnt have :glyphcross: while its in ascension, it becomes an echo. This is shown after the credits.
- Saint now is forever an echo, and every time saint tries to ascend again, another void worm does the same thing no matter what Saint does (saint still is still shown as an echo even after restarting campaign)
Some believe that saint itself is aware of it being controlled in some way, and doesn’t wish to ascend, rather return to its earthly need to ascend others. This is why you don’t need to ascend the worm, and it does it itself. It’s rejecting the worm’s influence to return and be the passage for other beings to leave the cycle.

i beat all history mode in one day but i never did saint it wqs my first time after passing hours i beat it it gived me alot of unknown ending end what is about to happen then i realized something is wrong knowing saint will never ascend end just looping maked me question my life end the sadness i always question why? just why this is like a message for us for the world or something else..this brings alot of things.this game is awesome i hope video cult brings more.

It’s pulse reversed I’m like 99% sure, and it fits with the theme the Saint portrays, the Saint truly ascends unlike the survivor who descended till the end when it finally ascended the saint is just the opposite of the survivor and monk.

My interpretation is that he realizes that escaping the cycle is pointless, he sees the beauty of the cycle of death and rebirth, how the world as it is with all the pain and suffering is still meaningful and worth existing in, why would he want to "escape" from it? that's why he rebels against the gold sea.
Could somebody explain the ending to me?
The Saint is doing the opposite of the original ending and moving back into the center of reality. The Saint swims up, unlike the survivor who swam down. It sounds weird but think about it.
Saint breaks the cycle. He kills the worm. He wakes up.
@@GP22855 the worm didnt die, nor did they break the cycle. they attempted to rebel against the void for turning them into an echo, possibly believing that without the judgement of a void worm, they can ascend finally. This is wrong of course, which leads to them just reliving their same memories over and over, their echo still trapped in that one spot, while their mind never stops moving
@@RandomMink i've seen lots of interpretations of the saint ending and this makes the most sense to me tbh, or the one i like the most at least. People say saint ascended while all the other slugcats didn't, which is such a sucky retcon. I think it's the opposite, saint wants to ascend badly but something is holding them back (i have my own theories on this) but by playing god and thinking they have the power to truly ascend anyway, they fail and become an echo
echos and 5p are the only things in the game that gives you higher karma without them you cant just go into the void
as for void and void leviathans nature that i dont understand unless the void leviathan is just a single entity that exist in multiple spaces at once in the void and thats why there so many of them there
and i still dont understand how rain world cycles work like we all know you fail you start from last hideout to try and have better outcome if every living creature has that ability then no one would make a mistake or eventually reach the void on their own but what about old age where you cant continue anymore its like a dead end loop paradox
if the void is a trap and it just makes your deepest desires then its a prison that shows you illusions
but if a lifeless planet cant sustain life its just as bad or even worse
there just more questions then answers if were lucky we would get more content
