    Rich Vogler was my Sprint Car racing hero! He was fast everywhere and won everywhere. I was watching his final race at Salem Speedway while on vacation in Tennessee. My girlfriend was waiting for me to go out and I was making her wait to watch the race...lol
    Once Vogler took the lead in the final laps, we left. Then I get a call from my mother a couple hours later asking me if I saw the Vogler crash, I said no, he took the lead and set sail for the win didn't he? Then she told me that he wrecked on the last lap and didn't survive, I was crushed! I knew how dangerous Salem Speedway was but I knew he was how good he was, I just couldn't believe it! Rich Vogler will always be the best Sprint Car driver of all time to me...rip

    Dave Peperak is still racing sprint cars!!! I am almost positive that he raced a few times this year. I know he was a year or two ago! Very impressive, and a very nice guy too!

    Keith, Jim, Bill Fleming and Al Michaels ALL did "Auto Racing" for ABC from 1961-about 1989. Even Chris Schenkel filled in once or twice. Seems like in 1989 the announcing "Team" for most auto racing events were set. Keith did his last race in abt 1988, Jim in 1987 (as host), Bill Fleming in 1985.

      Jim Lampley also pitched in, beginning in 1980 and lasting through the remainder of his tenure at ABC Sports not long after the 1987 Indianapolis 500, including their first live flag-to-flag 500 mile races, starting with the spring NASCAR race at Atlanta in 1986.

    Sammy loved the Non-downtube cars. He built his own from the ground up and was winning races.

    Unbelievable - they are bragging on Steve Chassis coming up from the back but ignore Jack Hewitt who finished 4th. We love you JH! Wish we could go back to those good old days and see all that racing all over again!

      And many NASCAR races, including the Daytona 500 annually from 1970-'75, except for 1973, and his voice is even associated with the most famous incident in the history of NASCAR's All-Star Race, the wrongly named "Pass in the Grass" in 1987. In fact, Keith Jackson was the Grand Marshall for the All-Star Race in 2013 and gave the command to start engines.

      @@cjs83172 Yep, it was the "save in the grass", even though "pass in the grass" sounds so much better.

    Editors were not invented until ...later, apparently. "Rich Vogler, the loser." If you say so, interviewer guy.

    • @frenzalrhomb6919
      @frenzalrhomb6919 2 года назад

      Well he was on this occasion. The looser, that is, and I know you couldn't say that very often about old "rapid Rich", but being an Australian, and having seen the man wheel a Midget around more than just one of our tracks, I must say that, NO he did NOT win "everything he was in", not did his American team members "win anything that he didn't win". Look, to be perfectly honest, that year I think it was about 1980 - 81,, your American Midget driver's shit all over us, most of the time, but certainly NOT all the time. So why someone as talented and as loved down under as he is back
      home would feel the need to blow his, and America's performance up into something everybody knows it wasn't, is beyond me.
