Hey, thank you for your video, I learnt a lot of valuable information! Hoping to move there on a work permit from the UK in the next couple months! I am getting super excited!
Absolutely! Listen...I live in the US now and sooooo many people think island living is so cheap. Ha! You have to have some serious dollars to live the island dream that many people see in the movies. But, island living had its perks.
I've been going to the Bahamas for many, many years and have been to Nassau, Exuma and Cat Island and as far as swimming beaches, paddle boarding you can't beat Cat Island. Exuma beaches were pretty but the currant was a bit stronger and difficult getting in and out of where as Cat island was pure paradise......they seem to have more "coves" that make the water calmer.
Hi Linda....Cat Island does have spectacular beaches, too. You are right. First time I went there it took my breath away. I suppose it all comes down to preference. Cat Islanders are super friendly, too. At least they were to me. LOL. Thanks a million for watching!
@@ThisBahamianGyal when I was walking through the beach I saw some men keep bothering couple women if they can go to their house and they kept saying no but they kept asking, also I saw them try to give alcohol to underage kids.

I know this is an old video however, I wanted to voice my opinion. I love the content, being a native this was completely accurate. It's a beautiful country but my frustration comes from a lazy mindset from hard working Bahamians. Here's what I mean by that. We don't grow our own food, we don't manufacture our own goods or teach others how to do so, we don't have incentives for graduates to stay and reinvest in our people. Island time should not be an excuse for common courtesy and on time customer service, especially when it comes to government entities. As far as hurricanes, it's been a few years since hurricane Dorian hit the Great Abaco, then instead of being proactive and learning from the devastation, the government remains reactive. I think every major island (7)should have a strong hurricane relief structure in case no one can evacuate. We often complain about the topics you talked about about however, nobody wants to change the mindset just because that's the way it has always been done. I don't think we have even scratched the surface of our full potential simply because of the lazy mindset. Simply paying for goods and services from other countries won't cut it, simply depending on tourism won't cut it. Buy a fish you eat for a few days. Teach a man how to fish you will eat for a lifetime. If the US suffers a national or economic collapse it would also be catastrophic for our economy. Therefore, we must become independent from imported goods. You have been informed.
Thank you sis for these very valuable information, I have been researching and I am hoping to relocate there soon I kinds prefer Nassau for many reasons but I might change that preference after I have settled into the culture Wonderful video, keep up the good work sis.
Small house on the beach with a little dock. One side of dock is my island hopper seaplane, other side is my 10 passenger glass bottom boat and a 2-seater waverunner. Fishing poles attached to my homemade tiki-torch bar, right outside of my glass doors I never leave locked. Guess I'm smoking that good crack, eh? Too many James Bond movies! Damn good video! Thanks for reality check, and for being a down to Earth Sista!
Listennnnn!!! Listen to me! This was 100% on point. I'm still trying to find the lie. One thing I can say about you Rogan is that you give the truth 100% of the time. Sometimes people try to pretty up The Bahamas. It's already a beautiful place, but like you said...it's a real place in the REAL WORLD. We have problems just like everyone else. Thanks for touching on the crime, the potcakes and how slow the damn "GUBMENT" is. I hope people watch this video, like seriously because this is a great place to start for people who think The Bahamas is all peaches and cream. I already see how this could be a multi-part video because you need to talk about how Bahamians feel about certain foreigners. You know just what I talking about. Anyway, keep up the great work. I can't wait for your channel to blow the hell up because your content is boss.
Thank you, Kelly! Look here...I have to tell the truth. Doesn't make sense for me to lie. When the people move to The Bahamas they would ask why no one told them. LOL. BTW...that is a great idea to do a series. I thought about that because there is sooooo much to talk about. When I was done recording I realized I missed a couple of things.

The best places to eat in Nassau are the food shacks at Potter's Cay. Most visitors never get there. This is where the locals go to party on Friday night. Try the tropical conch salad. It is my favorite. Also, check out things up on the Hill, in the vicinity of the rum distillery and the art center. There is also a history museum in the area and some historic hotels and B and Bs.
I love the tropical salad, but the traditional remains my favourite. LOL. I actually don't like eating at Potter's Cay Dock. I find that place to be atrocious as far as cleanliness is concerned. I would never direct anyone there. I have heard family members say they love the food, but I am too much of a clean freak to eat there. But, to each his own. I do agree with the area near the rum distillery. You are on point! That area is so slept on. People just don't know how amazing that area is.
@@ThisBahamianGyal You are soooo right about the cleanliness...or more accurately the filth. It is a dirty place. But I have had some good food and fellowship there. I like to stroll along the seawall and talk to the crews on the mailboats. I sure wish the government would clean the place up though.
@@edwiser3547 Me, too! It's such an amazing spot. But, the vendors bear some responsibility, too. I also wish the government would get serious about enforcement.

My dreamed post covid vacation place is Bahamas of course, but will definitively not make it my home land after watching this. Hello Olivier! Thanks so much for watching my video. How wonderful that your mother wants to move to Freeport. The good thing about Freeport is that apartments are much bigger and way cheaper than Nassau. I think she will enjoy the island very much. I'm glad that I could be of help.
I am an American who loves traveling to the Bahamas but just be warned things are quite expensive there especially on the smaller tourist resort Islands be ready to pay up to $90 for just 3 T shirts, you have to keep in mind nearly everything has to be imported and this creates high taxes and prices. If you go out to eat expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $ 20 for a cheesburger (a huge one and that is not including french fries and drinks which can bring it to a total of $30 to $45 dollars just for lunch. Service: Oh and dont be in a hurry to get a meal it can take some time sometimes up to an hour or 2 Island time is very real here. Weather is very hot and humid but with a cool breeze. sudden rain storms are common there as in Florida. Driving. Bahamians drive on the left NOT the RIGHT as they do on the US mainland and accidents are not uncommon among tourists who are not familiar . Taxis and tour buses tend to drive fast on the narrow roads . If your a tourists dont be surprised if people ( total strangers to you) tend to nod and wave and say hello this is quite common here unlike on the US mainland. Cash is more common than ATMs here so always be ready to have cash on you at all times US dollars are accepted. Also due to island time Bahamians tend to be a very relaxed and laid back culture ( and I thought Floridians were laid back!) so dont expect things to run on time all of the time!
@@waverider227 Yeah, no problem bro, lol, but what got me was when you said be prepared to pay up to $90 dollars for three T shirts, lol. If only that were true for Trinidad and Tobago. I'd be swimming in TShirts, lol.
@@alltheworldsastage4785 I was also on an island resort far from the capital Nassau and I think they jack up the prices a bit to get money out of the tourists which i can understand that they need the money on the smaller islands and everything there was imported on the cruise ships. As a Cuban American I was amazed how gorgeous eleuthera is ,came back from a two week vacation over there and at first I was like well I was born in a island too so it’s more of the same but reality hit me and I think I found the most beautiful beach in lighthouse point
Unfortunately, I have never been to Lighthouse Point. Disney now owns it. But, I have seen pictures and my friends have told me it's THE MOST beautiful beach they have ever seen in their lives.
@@ThisBahamianGyal it’s really gorgeous believe me! I remember when I was a kid in Cuba they used to say that we have the most beautiful beaches in the world but when I got to see the one at lighthouse point I realized that was the really big deal, that’s why Disney bought it! I appreciate that. I had these big dreams of living in Caribbean but I realize that it takes big money 💵 to live there.

HAHAHAHA Love this - so cool to hear someone dish the real goods - You RULE!!!! 🙏😂❤️
Thank you so so much!
Thank you sis for these very valuable information, I have been researching and I am hoping to relocate there soon I kinds prefer Nassau for many reasons but I might change that preference after I have settled into the culture
Wonderful video, keep up the good work sis.
Really useful information - it's so helpful to get the inside take on what life on the islands can really be like. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you sooooo much. You are really kind. I love getting an insider's view, too.
I went to the Exumas and I concur, the most amazing beaches I have ever seen! I worked on a boat and got to see some of the most pristine beaches ever, Compass Key for sure!

Those prices you listed are pretty reasonable, everything is way more expensive in Trinidad and Tobago.😂
@@alltheworldsastage4785 I’ve Never been to Trinidad but I sure believe you
@@waverider227 Yeah, no problem bro, lol, but what got me was when you said be prepared to pay up to $90 dollars for three T shirts, lol.
When i was in Nassau ;T shirts were a bit cheaper but still somewhat high with the added tax .
