@@trollface6553 Once you learn the rhythm of Mr. Sandman, it's really not that hard (in my opinion). Quick-dodge all of his starting attacks and punch him once in return each time. After that phase is over, do some jabs - high punches, he'll dodge every time and counter-attack. Dodge and hit him in the face, wait for a second, and then punch him in the stomach. It'll do MORE damage than punching him twice, you'll know you did it right because it makes a special noise different from normal. When you run out of hearts, wait patiently for him to throw a move, dodge it, punch him, and repeat the process all over again. I personally find it difficult to dodge his left-side punch (left as in, from OUR perspective, Mac's left, our left) because we've never seen it before on any other fighter. When he does his Dreamland Express, you can tell he is going to do it because he'll start blocking all of your punches rather than dodging. When he's about to do it, he'll completely stop moving for a second, which gives you enough time to notice and react to it - even to someone like me who thinks of himself as being slower than average.
Would like to clarify that this run is timed in real time, as opposed to speedrunners who use in-game time. Converted to in-game time, this run comes out to 12:55.12, while the current world record is 14:55.00.
Mike Tyson is like the most humble celebrity ever to appear in a game. The funny animations, the congratulations and the wink at the end for beating him. You really don't see things like that anymore.

I saw speedruns of the 2009 Punch-Out, and I am surprised to see how many of the original attacks they were able to translate perfectly in the 2009 game.
Not just enemy attacks. They've also translated some obscure speedrun mechanics like delayed punches getting you stars. You can tell the people who made that game were huge fans of the original.

I'm 42 and got this game for my birthday back in '87 when I was 7 or 8 from my uncle. Still have it to this day. Beat tyson when I was like 9 or 10. Had the code and kids at school would show at my house and power through sandman and macho with not a scratch on me. Recently busted it out and can't even through tiger. Punched in tyson code and can't get out of first round!😅

Little Mac knocks out his opponent. Just think of the riots. All because you did not go at least 2 rounds. Should have listened to the betting brokers.

I'd like to see a run where every opponent gets knocked down and _doesn't_ get back up. But, that might be boring, depending on the game logic. I mean, this wasn't programmed like _Super Punch-Out!!_ where that's easy to do with practice.
When I was a kid I had this game, except Mike Tyson was removed and replaced with a generic heavyweight champion named Mr Dream. And there was no newspaper clip like at 16:20. It did have the 1987 copyright date. Maybe it was only for certain markets at the time?

I've beaten every boxer in the SNES/NES and Wii Punch Out series EXCEPT Mike Tyson! Before I kick the bucket, it is my dream to beat Mike Tyson in Punch Out.
For the latest Punch Out game, why did Don Flamenco not come after Bald Bull and Super Macho Man not come after Mr. Sandman? Has anyone played both versions, and realized why? I played the Wii version, and Bald Bull and Mr. Sandman were the hardest opponents to me, and my brother took care of them for me. Super Macho Man was not much of a challenge to me. Mr. Sandman was the hardest opponent to me. Again, my experience is just from the Wii version, because that's the only version I played, and I only did Little Mac's first stand, and I realized I was not experienced enough to do Little Mac's second stand, because of that Bald Bull and Mr. Sandman.
You know what's sad? In-Universe, Little Mac knocked out 5 of these guys in less time than Glass Joe. Great Tiger was the first opponent to outlast Glass Joe.
I'd. also add that all video content is K.O. \ T.K.O. -related. One of Russell Wolf's sons finished at 25-2, 19 K.O. Only a K.O. % age. of ,760..... Great game, though. .. Had to block all of Popinski. . jabs after his shuffle footwork.......
the bull charge isn’t skipped in this run, bull is just tko’d before the first bull charge in both cases. with that said, it is possible to skip a bull charge by knocking him down right before the timed trigger

RTA strategies are always the starting point. Sometimes TAS authors find new stuff which they then try to make RTA viable, but more often their job is to push existing strategies to their absolute limit, beyond that of human skill and reaction. TAS authors even played a role in proving that Todd Rogers was a fraud.

the bull charge isn’t skipped in this run, bull is just tko’d before the first bull charge in both cases. with that said, it is possible to skip a bull charge by knocking him down right before the timed trigger

I find it funny that buffers used by actual players are getting put into the TAS.
RTA strategies are always the starting point. Sometimes TAS authors find new stuff which they then try to make RTA viable, but more often their job is to push existing strategies to their absolute limit, beyond that of human skill and reaction. TAS authors even played a role in proving that Todd Rogers was a fraud.
