Super Punch-Out!! is a boxing video game for the Super Nintendo. It is the 4th game in the Punch-Out series. The player controls a boxer with a 3rd person perspective, the player can punch opponents to the head or to the body, and block or dodge opponents. The more punches the player does to an opponent, the more the power meter goes up, which when full can perform powerful punches.
This run by adelikat ( tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/a... ) improves on the Mad Clown fight, taking the time from 9"05 from the previous publication, to 9"01.
The record times are:
Gabby Jay 6.26 Bear Hugger 12.92
Piston Hurricane 5.49 Bald Bull 8.24
Bob Charlie 5.50 Dragon Chan 7.30
Masked Muscle 6.30 Mr. Sandman 13.13
Aran Ryan 8.45 Heike Kagero 9.94
Mad Clown 9.01 Super Macho Man 9.43
Narcis Prince 8.20 Hoy Quarlow 8.35
Rick Bruiser 10.65 Nick Bruiser 7.52 - Игры
Fun fact: You only hear the "Right on!" and applause at the end of the credits if you got 16 wins and 0 losses.
Yeah just figured that out the other day when I beat it lossless.

Whenever I see a TAS of this game, Mad Clown is always the thumbnail. I fear no clown, but that thing...
Funny you mention that, because Mad Clown is where the new time save is.
i got mad clussy fever
@@AndrewBlechinger I always wondered if there was a "buffer strat" to him. Due to his appearance being like Bear Hugger. Looks like this author found it finally
It's gonna be ok. Here, have some pizza cake.🍕🍰
@@avalonjustin or better yet go enjoy EA from Gabby Jay
Imagine paying for ringside seats to the special circuit championship match, and the undefeated world champ gets bodied in under 9 seconds. You'd feel robbed.
I can imagine people that pay great money to see their favorite fighter in ufc or favorite boxer in wba get squashed feel ripped off as well. Mike Tyson's fights often lasted maybe 3 rounds. We're talking 60 bucks for pay-per-view in the 80s and 90s
@@theeternalslayerHaha. I was thinking the same thing about mike Tyson fights back in the day. Most of the fights were on HBO and we were the only ones in our neighborhood with HBO. All the neighbors would pack in our family room to watch Mike Tyson and the fight would be over in 90 seconds 😂
Idk, I’d be pretty stoked to witness sports history in person, no matter how short it was
Just like those Tyson fights
this game managed to REALLY capture the concept of "sit tf down" better than any of the other punch outs. every hit both taken and delivered felt so powerful, not to mention you COULD get kos like this. granted not this fast, but these were all strats that could be utilized casually, it was all just down to technial execution.
I like it cause it feels closer to boxing than the more puzzle based Mike Tyson's and the wii game. It makes you feel a lot more powerful than those games do, while still technically going up against more experienced and powerful foes. The game can still whoop your ass if you're not careful, but if you know what you're doing, you can absolutely destroy the opponents.
I definitely wish the enemy boxers would get up with more HP though. Bit too easy to keep smacking them down after the first down.
Definitely agreeable, I still like Punch-out Wii the most though thanks to all of the fantastic animation and personality Next Level Games put into it.
I remember after my first play through I absolutely wrecked subsequent play throughs. So much fun
The star punches sound like you fired a missile at the opponent, and the resulting stagger looks like they'd rather you did.
4:40 I like how he stands up, the counting still continues and he's like "For real, bruh? Well, Imma die then, my head feels funny anyways"
boy the WVBA has an oddly inconsistent rule set.
@@davidthecommenter Incorrect. It could be argued that he failed the 8-count, a rule in which fighters must be examined for 8 seconds after getting up from a downed stage to make sure they don't have brain damage. If they fail the 8-count, it's considered a TKO.
mac stared at him too hard and he had a seizure
"Yo FUCK that"
Him doing that just makes it easier to get a KO then get a TKO
For anyone wondering how long this run is when you use the in-game time, it's 2:16.69 which means this TAS is about 12 seconds ahead of the current world record by Awosomeandy.
Only 12 is crazy, not even a second on average can be saved in each fight
especially considering you need perfect luck on every random fight lol. 12 is nothing haha
Wait, that means the World Record is unbeatable no matter what?
Tmw you gotta fight but you still have school tomorrow
@@David2073It's a combination of perfect luck and execution to the FRAME.
Bear Hugger: "I've heard someone that can beat me in 17 seconds."
adelikat (the player) who has knock him out under 12 seconds: "Come again, pal."
The ducking/dodging buffer against Sandman looked REALLY cool. I could see someone doing something like that in an ACTUAL boxing match.
People do do that in a real match lol. Buffer strats are EVERYWHERE in this game. Check out the agdq blindfold runs and whatnot

*Super Macho Man getting 10-counted*
*_"DUDE!"_*
"Bogus..."
Many don't know; but the hardest one to get a 10 count on is Narcis Prince.
He's the most random opponent in this game. He can block; dodge, and do his little "side step" animation at any time and in no particular order. Getting that kind of knockout time on him takes many repetitive attempts.
I wouldn't be surprised if the mass majority of re-records in this TAS is from him
@@XenoGuru this isn't a legit speedrun.

I never thought he was the owner until now, but that's cool
Mr. Sandman & Rick Bruiser were *the only ones in the entire lineup* who actually threw some punches!
Everyone else just stands there taking hits!
I always enjoy a TAS of this game.
When McHazard discovered you could knock out Heike Kagero; that was incredible.
That is really hard to do in real time though.
Do it without TAS.
@Thomas J I have but only twice. It's pretty rare for Heike to sidestep that last rapid punch. Most times he just blocks it and that's enough delay in time not to knock him out
@@XenoGuru do it on an old school SNES. No hacks, no cheats, no TAS, with 5 of your friends watching. No Mames. Original SNES controller.
@Thomas J I play on the SNES classic edition. Still uses the same controls and concepts as the original SNES. I don't use cheats or hacks; and I've gotten close to getting all the times this TAS has put up. But the more random characters take a lot more attempts to get those times on
@@Surfer041 no you do it. Go away

Bro, I was asking if there was a Punch Out game for SNES, and then THIS game popped up and it answered all my questions.
Just casually going farther than I ever made it as a kid. Bald Bull used to haunt my dreams
Nostalgia, and great super play.
Damn Adelikat must be 60 by now so good to see him work again. 👏👏

"Special Thanks to Charles Martinet" isn't that the voice of Mario? I wonder who he was in this game
He voiced every character in the game, including the player.
Charles was everyone. Every. Single. Person, and the announcer.

I was him
he was everyone if that isn’t clear
I understand he played the ref and the boxer very cool
i like how bob charlie gets up and is all like "nope that's not going to do it" and falls back down.
Damn this was my game back in the days. Why can’t we get a switch Punch Out?
That would be so insanely awesome
Get a super nintendo
The wii version was so good that we don't need a new game, just a port. Nintendo's probably never gonna do that, though.
By the way, if you have the original copy or the Switch Online version, you should try this. If you put in a series of inputs, then you can play Multiplayer Super Punch Out. I’ve seen some of the speed runners do it on an original cartridge and Switch Online.
I love the Bear Hugger corner man saying "attack him now!". Do you really need someone to tell you to attack the other guy during a boxing match?
I mean. yeah, there's different strategies. But as someones coming back from the corner, that would be an obvious time to lay heavy into offense.
I could really go for a delicious piece of "pizza cake" right now 😎
Right on!
So...lasagna?
I think a pizza cake would be “right on”
The sprites in this game are phenominal, look 32 bit. great digital voices too. Surprised this game is so little talked about.
A new Punch-Out!! TAS by adelikat? But Christmas isn’t for another month!
2:59 What's the purpose of waiting a little bit after Bull's first counter punch?
Asserting dominance
for some reason, hitting an opponent on the last frame of their stunned animation fills the super meter more
Probably TAS RNG manipulation stuff
The reason is to time the punch until the final frame of the stun, if you do so then the end of stun delay doesnt happen. it only saves a few frames but it is faster. It also fills the super meter more than normal so you dont need to waste 2 punches. Hope this helped
@@journey8692It considers it a counter punch, which awards a little more guage fill.
It's funny how after the sucess of the NES version they made this one closer to the original arcade instead to the NES one.
Wasn't there at one time, a blindfolded run of this game up? It's definitely up there as one of the games that is just pure button muscle memory. It's like learning a special move on a fighting game for all of the fighters.
Every fighter is weak to a very specific pattern of attacks, and their AI doesn't adapt or change. So yeah, once you memorize the timing you can get quick KOs on nearly every opponent, and it's the same every time. It's almost like a puzzle game.
@@Rocket1377 the original Punch Out was a bit different due to the RNG of Tyson
I doubt it means much to answer this 9 months later but yes a speedrunner named zallard1 did a blindfolded run at a past AGDQ event which I highly recommend watching because it's amazing. I believe the first one was done at AGDQ 2015 or 2016. Later on at another event there was even a blindfolded race done between him and another runner name Hootey that was absurdly impressive. Definitely would recommend anyone reading to check them both out. They're chill dudes with insane skill.
@@Slightly_Decent No, it's all good. I love to see comments get commented on with new info. And I still play retro games on a daily basis to break up my marathon FFXIV sessions. lol
Wow! You are amazing you make it look very easy especially the final boss
Imagine spending hundreds on a ticket for special champ Nick Bruiser vs up and coming Little Mac and the match was only 7 seconds. I'd be a little upset.
Ok mate, loved this in the arcades I remember 😂
Very good version here too 👌
9:12 Fight! Deeree, deeree, deeree, deeree, deeree, deeree 🤣🤣🤣
Man this guy memorized every combination awesome.
Its a TAS, tool assisted speed run. Meaning a computer is playing.
@@civic2980 prob a joke
The AI doesn't even have a chance to attack or use its pattern (Only possible exception would be Nick Bruiser). Wow. I didn't know that was possible.
It looks like you're just mashing the attack button but I know this game isn't that simple.
If you want to know more, you can always check out Summoning Salt's video on it. Bit of a long watch, but definitely worth it.
Woah I didn’t know Jim Sterling was in Super Punch Out 9:52

It's incredible. Using RTA, it's just shy of 16 minutes. Using Single Segment, it's just 2m 16s plus a bit.
I think you mean 'using IGT' it's just over 2 minutes.
i remember this game like yesterday
GREAT BOXING GAME TOO MY FRIEND HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS TOO MY FRIEND
I knew somebody would improve the Mad Clown fight after seeing Zallard beat it 2 milliseconds faster. But instead, TAS did it faster than that.

@@Awosomeandy Zallard is another "Punch Out" saga speedrunner.
@@XenoGuru it was just a really weird statement
@@Awosomeandy The old record was 9.05 for Mad Clown, but Zallard got 9.03. This TAS got 9.01, which is faster of course.
@@kevinmurphy6679 yeah I know all that, I had the 9.01 before Zallard and this tas did, its just weird to me to label that the "tas beat zallard" in this video specifically when the 9.01 came out before zallard got the 9.03
Violent game.
Y-yeah... that's how combat sports work.
The biggest thing that bothers me in this game is how bear hugger / mad clown go “huUugh” when they get hit

I said that too haha
I like how Mac dances when he has to wait
bro this tas guy can literally speedrun every game wtf
Best game
I still dunno why the TAS needs to pause at certain points. It can't be pause buffering cuz the TAS always has perfect timing, unlike a human runner. So why?
The TAS pauses to fill the super meter quicker because the super meter doesnt pause, but everything else pauses. It also saves some time compared to not pausing.
I remember as a kid my cousin caught hell trying to beat this game.
Pizza cake. (Piece of cake.)
The second one is right.

The best punch out ever made! I remember grinding away for hours on this game trying to figure out how to counter the Bruisers lol
Same, my personal best against Nick Bruiser was just a hair over 9 seconds, and that was on an actual SNES. How this dude pulled it off in under 8 must come down to frame-perfect RNG manipulation.
I like the part when he says “Pizza Cake!”
Thanks for ride to the end of the game. Great job. Didnt even know there was a special circuit

Very entertaining. WRs for TAS should be a thing if it already isn't 😉
No they shouldn't.
@@Surfer041No you
@@jedecilos322bruh
I'm curious, why did this TASer choose to use the buffer strats for the dizzy intervals? Shouldn't they be able to just go frame-by-frame and nail the timing perfectly?
It's faster to just program the buffer strats since you can just skip to the next possible frame you can act rather than go frame by frame.

On dragon Chan you can get the first knock down at 4:67 if you start with 2 upper left punches then 2 lower right punches then 1 lower left and 1 upper left, hell go dizzy then hit him with a lower right and he'll go down. That'll shave a decent amount off your time. I did it manually so I'm sure with TAS it'll be easy.
Yeah, but does he get up with more health? The first phase can be done this way every time, but what he does when he gets up after that is random. You want the short heal, the long heal is tolerable in RTA, and kicks is just a run ender.
@@AndrewBlechinger he does get up with more health but the behavior chan exhibits isn't random when he gets up after this specific knock down. I am curious though is there a point to the timed energy regen inputs during the knock down? I hadn't considered that as a factor. Of course I test manually not TAS so there are significant differences between us in that regard.
@@AndrewBlechinger After testing this combination, there are times when he gets up and tries the triple kick instead of regenerating. If you input certain dodges while he's on his way to the center of the ring you can force him to regen instead of kick though. The TAS is doing what it's supposed to, I am thinking outside the box-ing ring, lol. 7:58 is the best I've been able to do manually though.
@@Odious_One That's actually good to know. I always thought it was entirely random which mode he chooses to go into.
@@XenoGuru I've noticed that if you hold up as he's coming to the center it'll almost always cause him to regen. If he starts to kick you can jab to get him to dodge then he'll regen.
Btw, nice profile pic, ID is a badass.
Can somebody explain why the pauses in Gaby Jay and Heike Kagero?
if you dont pause then it takes longer for your super meter to fill up and you cant dizzy them

What?
@@DJIncendrationThey're laughing at the way the voice says "five."
Nick and Rick bruiser are so weird in the way they act and move…
Ikr especially Nick Bruiser with his cold stare and robotic movement
They are certainly some sort of deranged maniacs. They probably have furniture made from human flesh.
Wondering if the pauses were used for RNG manipulation or just for easier input of a frame perfect trick
I'll try to explain this as best I can:
The pauses in the game allow the "special punch" guage to fully fill before continuing the fight.
We take gabby jay for example:
If you caught him with the stunning jab; but didn't pause, the guage wouldn't have enough time to fill before gabby comes out of the "stun animation", allowing him to block or dodge the power punch.
When the blow lands; the pause is used because it stops the frames; but the guage continues to fill, which makes sure he won't have any time to respond to the power shot
@@XenoGuru I think you explained this very well.
Neither of those would be needed; this is a TAS, so they have total control over both of those.
There is no such thing as randomness in this game. It works like a puzzle game, the fighters behave the same every time, and the solution to getting a perfect victory never changes.
@Rocket1377 That is where you're incorrect. Bob Charlie, Masked Muscle, Dragon Chan, Super Macho Man, and Narcis Prince have many random properties to them. They will not behave the same way every time you face them.
There are some characters that are fixed on a pattern; but the ones I mentioned are not.
Fun fact: dragon chan actually fights like a luchador, masked muscle has puroresu moves
Nick bruiser is so intimidating
The last opponent in the latest Punch-Out will be Jake Paul dressed up as a clown.
If there is another Punch-Out it should have real fighters just have them be a play on names, similar to how they got around to things in the Ken Griffey Jr games for the SNES.
His name is A
oh damn
I don't understand why not even the TAS can't get Bear Hugger under 10 seconds, I can understand the Champs like Mr. Sandman, but NOT BEAR HUGGER! THE 2ND BOXER YOU FACE! He's the only non champ boxer that you can't beat under 10 seconds!? Makes no sense!
It takes twelve shots; including two power punches, to get him into the "daze" animation. And he doesn't attack quickly enough. The time just adds up.
Nick's mannager: A new rookie is come to fight you tonight, careful he's undefeated
Nick: They all are
Nick's Manager: Not one of them could hit this rookie, now keep your game on!
Nick:*confused pikachu noises*
So, after all these years… Mr. sandman is the toughest boxer to knock out…
The Rick bruiser fight was a bit slower than the human record
Actually, no, unless you're referring to the European or Japanese versions of the game.
The last fight, he got a super uppercut to go through instead of the second counter for a two punch phase two. What
According to Summoning Salt, you can either do a second counter or throw two Supers and hope they both land.
Either way, you get a quick enough 2nd Knockdown that it ends in a KO
The first Super intercepts Nick's punch, the second puts him away
Pizza cake. Right on!
piece of cake
for aran ryan the closest i got to adelikat's time was 8:71
Still a pretty good time!
Man I had no idea you can get a 2 knock down win on Super Macho Man
My brother has tied 6 26 Gabby Jay like 7 times.
Can't even do a speedrun on the 3ds version since it adds much reaction to the normal enemies so they can dodge it EVEN! Gabby Jay can punch the only way that starts the speedrun of the minor circuit thats why you have to punch him in the gut then start with the face so you can do a super punch, make him dizzy and not even reach to instantly knock him down since even if you manage to super uppercut him there may be a chance you may not instantly get him down the first time
And so you can't instantly super uppercut an enemy when they get up the second time because suprise!! They now can block it or dodge it!
Anyway the 3ds version makes it kinda worse if you wanna speedrun it
Ngl. I set up a stopwatch to see how many minutes i got. And i had 20 minutes.
Pizza cake!
