Traxxas TRX-4 Sport Kit RC Crawler Truck - Body Shell Painting

Hi! Welcome to The Bro RC channel.
Recently finished building the Traxxas TRX-4 Sport Kit and it comes with unpainted body shell. So I am sharing this video of the painting process using Tamiya polycarbonate paints.
The idea is to get a paint job with deep red color that stands out or 'sparkle' under sunlight. So, I used 4 different paint colors with different level of applications to achieve this:
1. Translucent Red - heavy layer
2. Gunmetal - medium layer
3. Silver - medium layer
4. Black - heavy layer
The results and showcase of the painted TRX-4 is shown at the last part of the video. Enjoy!

Excellent video....that is such a lovely deep rich colour of red. It is almost exactly the colour I want to achieve on my new trx4 kit, but I have no idea how the colour combinations work. And I don’t have spare body shells to practice on. So, if you don’t mind, I am going to copy this and hope my spraying skills are as good as yours.

Thank you! And sure I don't mind if you want to try the paint scheme.
Another option of the same theme is to use silver color, instead of gunmetal. This will make the body to have more red than 'dark'. Just giving you more ideas on color mix.
On painting itself, always spray on other surface on the first few press. And on the car body, maintain spray distance. These two will avoid or minimize blotch or 'splatter' when you are painting.

Love this paint job so much i went and bought the same paint today, just one question please, did you spray each color till the can was empty?

Glad you like it! I sprayed according to how many layers I wanted, you can refer to the video description on the layering details. Medium layer = 2 layers, heavy = 3 layers.

The color is gorgeous! Does it work with other colors like purple? I'd love to have a purple like that!

I did contemplate whether to get purple instead of red, but in the end I used red with gunmetal to get somewhere in the middle..deep crimson like.
Anyway, if u want to have more purple..I suggest you use with silver instead of gunmetal. Because with gunmetal it might be too dark of a purple, unless that is what you want of course.

Looks like you painted it inside. How bad was the smell? Did it take awhile for it to go away?

Was not actually inside, I was on my open sided balcony. Paint smell didn't linger that much.

Nope, they are matte stickers from the TRX-4 Sport Kit. Looks as good as painted on 👍
