    Mike, many thanks for this video. A ton of interesting, helpful tips for me, a novice wood turner. I was especially grateful for your comments about taking your time.

    Really do enjoy these videos. Each one of you brings a unique approach to the monthly project that is really interesting to see and compare. Yours is the third that I've seen for this installment, off to watch Richard Raffan's installment.

    Nice bowl Mike! IMHO, the light texturing was just right as it doesn't draw attention just to that but to the whole bowl. Nicely done. Thanks for sharing!
    Take care, Dave

    A nice simple form and very fitting embellishments for it. Interesting use of the vacuum chuck. If I was a tenth as good at turning as any of you are I'd have tried and make that catch into a spiraling decoration and told everyone it was completely planned... ;-) Thanks for another interesting and instructive video.

    Good show of the different texturing options and tools. I found the lathe speed also makes a difference in the texture pattern, especially on the bottom flower. Now, we just need to get you to try some colored embellishing wax on the textures!🤣

      Valerie, my experience is that speed only affects my pattern if it affects my tool control. Going slow takes longer but the tool is less likely to jump and that is never good.

    Very nice embellishment. Dresses up the bowl. Will need to get one of the decorative tools.

    Great to see how you and Sam use similar texturing tools and triangular points to create the decorative bands. I'm wondering if the detailing point you use on the rim is the remnant of a spindle gouge. Even if not, I've a gouge about to become a very similar tool.

      I add the tiny Vee groove on each side of the texture with a 1/4" point tool. I used two different ones in the video. They are from HSS rods from Amazon but you could grind one from a screw driver. I like the 1/4" but some folks like them larger so you could make one from any old 3/8" bar tool. Here is my video on making one ruclips.net/video/AMogaU6aiI8/видео.html

    Will an oil penetrate on the inside where you used the abrasive paste with wax? I’ve never used abrasive paste if I am going to oil as I didn’t think the oil would penetrate. Beautiful bowl Mike!

    • @MikePeaceWoodturning
      @MikePeaceWoodturning  Год назад

      Yes it will. As long as you keep wiping off the abrasive paste until the residue is gone. I have a video on it.
