The Farrelly Brothers make movies with great soundtracks. Me, Myself, and Irene is no exception, with this beautiful song playing while Jim Carrey is pelted with bugs on the "open road!"
The song starts as Irene is driving away, eyes full of water on an empty road...to find Charlie waiting for her as this beautiful track goes on...love that song, scene and movie all together !
A fun movie, even if a little bit "crude". I have a DVD of it. We play it every now and then and enjoy it as much as we did the first time. Jim was at his best and Renee was the perfect choice for her role.
and 2019.. Gotta love the New England Farrelly Boys, almost everything they do is set in RI or somewhere in NE. Good home Boys. New Englanders are the biggest homers in America. Other than New Yorkers, but New York isn’t even a region, it’s like its own country, it’s way to inharmonic, they have EVERYTHING there. NE is very homogenous.
Someone sent this song to me the other day. I cried when I heard it. I've listened to it a bunch of times in the last couple of days. I love it. So bittersweet.. Makes you realize you need to get rid of everything that is holding you back.. Step out of your comfort zone... Letting go can be sad but can also be very empowering. The possibilities are endless. Great song ❤️ hope it inspires you the way it does me !!
Isn't it strange how the words and melody mesh together to paint a message that can actually move a person to change their life? Mine was, Looking Into You, by Jackson Browne.
One of the few videos my dad had on DVD on his boat was Me Myself & Irene. We would cruise the Gulf Islands of British Columbia in the 2000's watching this film. Good memories, this song brings them back.
The entire Me, Myself, and Irene soundtrack is great, I went directly from watching this movie for the first time and bought it, played it very heavily for almost a decade. Thank you Ellis for creating such a wonderful and lasting piece of beautiful art.
I've just finished watching the Me myself and Irene movie for the first time and then came straight to RUclips to find this beautiful song. What a lovely ending scene it was.
Listening to this in my home in the Scottish highlands. First heard it just after my first child was born....was watching Me, Myself and Irene. Had 2 more kids and been married 20 years since. I’m 43, my kids have left home and although I’m still married I feel so fucking low. Anyway, this cheered me up a wee bit. Sending love to all the people who wonder where the last two decades went and all so fast.
I am 69 and before the advent of closed caption cc by so many artists , I only heard the mellody. I am thankful to these thoughtful artists as they Have oppened 4:49 a whole new WORLD to Me. Wow , How long I lived without understanding the SONGS😢. TRUELY THANK YOU FOR YOUR Lyrics and again your gift of them to us hearing impaired.❤❤❤❤❤❤
What a truly beautiful song about the dissolution of an old cycle in order to embrace the birth of another. It perfectly encapsulates the feeling of such a difficult yet hopeful transition... from the pain of letting go to the optimism of beginning anew. So much of his soul went into this work of art. 💛✨
I first heard this when i was a kid watching me myself &Irene. 10 years later i woke up with it in my head, and now I'm jamming to it. Simply a beautiful heartfelt song
This song has been an ear worm since Me Myself and Irene... it was really hard to appreciate the lyrics during the movie, but now that I can actually give it my full attention, I really like it... 👏🏻
This is one of the most finely crafted and performed songs ever written. Being a song writer myself, I'm sure this one is very special for Ellis, not only because of its success but because you can tell it came straight from his heart. It touches you deeply, with the lyrics and music finding that perfect marriage. Ellis is an immensely talented writer. He must be very proud to have penned this gem. I know the experience of having a feeling or emotion and wanting to translate it into a song. Sometimes, it is a labor of love but every once in a while a song will write itself, as if it exists somewhere and you are just "channeling" it. At least it has been this way for me and I have heard other writers say the same. The mark of a truly great song is that you never grow tired of hearing it and "The World Ain't Slowing Down" is definitely one of them.
Song brings back a great memory of watching my dad riding the merry-go-round, at the carnival in Lansing, Michigan. He enjoyed it so much, just like he was kid. I can still see him smiling in my mind. Miss him much.
I found you sitting on a suitcase crying Beneath my feet, I feel the rumble of a subway train I laugh out loud, 'Cause it's the one thing I hadn't been trying The train came in breathless, The passenger's restless You say, "Baby, you'll never change" You gotta get gone, you gotta get going Hey, the world ain't slowing down for no one It's a carnival callin' out to you It sounds like a song, Hits you like scripture You paint the picture With colors squeezed from your hand Weren't you the kid Who just climbed on the merry-go-round Hey look, the world ain't slowing down Hey, hey, the world ain't slowing down Hey, hey Out on the sidewalk, Pigeon's do the moonwalk I'll be dancing like Fred Astaire The lamppost's are rockin' The whole town's talkin' Like a fool in a barber's chair And I get the sensation, The joy and frustration Like being caught by a tropical rain Freedom can numb you, When there's no place to run to It feels just like Novocaine You gotta get gone, you gotta get going Hey the world ain't slowin' down for no one It's a carnival callin' out to you (It's callin' out to you) It sounds like a song, Hits you like scripture You paint the picture With colors squeezed from your hand Weren't you the kid Who just climbed on the merry-go-round Hey look, the world ain't slowin' down Hey, hey, the world ain't slowing down Hey, hey You packed up all your handbags, Throwing off the sandbags I let go and you stepped free I didn't want to loose you You said, "You didn't choose to, It's just how your karma came." Beautiful song. Takes you somewhere else. Escape the hate and madness. Back when the world was simple, happy, people weren't serious.....chill all and enjoy the journey. 😎♥️
Nostalgia big time! 😭 I was the kid that climbed on the merry go round. 🎠 this was 24 years ago, and i was 9, and i remember sneaking into the movie theater to watch this movie with my older brother. I didn't understand how simple and good life was, then being young and restless and the whole world ahead of you. fast forward now how times have changed. This song and movie just bring back so many memories of a kid, and how times were easier ❤️ The world aint slowing down is so true 😢
Can't stop listening to this! It's my motivation for starting up my treadmill. Plays on a continuing loop as I walk, run. I love you, Ellis Paul! you are my inspiration!
Really do not like living where I do. When I heard this song on Me Myself and Irene I knew that it would be what I listened to if I ever get out of here. My driving away song. Someday. Good Lord willing.
This brings nostalgia. Me, Myself, and Irene was a childhood movie of my sister and I LOL. Even if we were too young to even watch it, we are also really disciplined and don’t take influence from outside sources. The movie always had a great soundtrack, great story, and a great 2000’s feel. I was born in 2005, I remember watching this since birth. Great times…
Today is my anniversary. I heard this last night for the first time in forever. Love it. Downloaded. It is my happy song for the happy day. Thank You! Cheers.
The line "The World Ain't Slowing Down" Got Me thinking that the Movie was released 2000. I was in College back then. Here I am in 2021. 21 years down line The World truly Ain't Slowing Down.
Thanks and a TU! When I first heard this song, it was not from the movie Me, Myself, and Irene. But this song reminds me of my wife leaving me and then years later, wanting to come back, which when she first left I tried very hard to get her to come back home. She was not happy after a month or so after getting married and became a big problem. A friend said, "no matter what you try to make her happy its like having oil on your hands, and what ever you try to grasp or hold on to of course will slip out of your hands. The over spending, writing checks and bouncing checks ... she had no control or the concept of living with her means and or being content and happy with what you got. She was also very mean to people ... saw many sides I never saw till we married. I got up everyday for a year of our marriage and wondered what going to happen today? I filed for divorce after 6 months (late 96) after she left, but gave her 2 years for her to come back before proceeding with the divorce. Then a year after the divorce she say's she wants to come back. She had no feelings or expression of being sorry and how she treated me, and others. By this time of course I was aware of everything that I did not know during the time we were married. At any rate ... no remorse for anything ... This song woke me so to speak ... helped me to say NO ... I don't want you back, I don't want a person like you in my life ever again ...
Yeah, I saw the movie, I was 5 years old, that movie was fun but this song made me feel motivated, 17 years later I am thinking to myself "You gotta get gone, You gotta get going, hey the world ain't slowing down for no one"... thank you for this special song, I have been going and making my dreams reallity cause this marvelous lyrcis motivating me to don't waste time and go for my goals and the things that make me happy.
I was 14 in 2001 and watched this movie and loved this song and my dad would drop me off at a new middle school after my parents got divorced and we'd listen to this song in pain and silence, I'm almost 37 with a wife and 3 year daughter. What a journey life gives us. God bless
No matter when you hear this song, It never disappoints! Ellis Paul is amazing. I am 52 and i feel sorry for this current generation. They will never know what Good music is.
i play this (from my cd) whenever I feel negative which is a bit too often lately - it always gives me a fillip and kicks my rear to get on with it - this should be THE USA unofficial anthem
23 years after Me, Myself, and Irene, this song is still amazing.
Makes you wish that fall is every day, so you can just run, play and laugh, eh? 😊
I do that little whistle from the movie every time I listen to this 🥺
That it is!
Yeah it is!

This song not being more popular is a crime.
Me myself and Irene got me liking this song
Me too
Me Myself and Irene was the best movie for this song! Great story for both, and great pieces of media in general!
i totally agree😊😊😊
The Farrelly Brothers make movies with great soundtracks. Me, Myself, and Irene is no exception, with this beautiful song playing while Jim Carrey is pelted with bugs on the "open road!"
This song is a reminder to live for today, not holding on to the past, it's gone ...............not coming back.
The Farrelly brothers know how to pick amazing songs
I agree with you
DPMAce yea, their soundtracks are seriously underrated
They do indeed. This is a *GEM* !!!
That is a fact.
They used his songs in Me myself and Irene, Shallow Hal and Hall pass. They must love him and rightly so.
Quite possibly the most underrated song in history
Frank?
The song starts as Irene is driving away, eyes full of water on an empty road...to find Charlie waiting for her as this beautiful track goes on...love that song, scene and movie all together !
Thank God it wasn't hank
A fun movie, even if a little bit "crude". I have a DVD of it. We play it every now and then and enjoy it as much as we did the first time. Jim was at his best and Renee was the perfect choice for her role.
The song is first played when they start out on the open road heading to upstate NY
Just watched it again, what a good film!
"And you can just keep me here forever!"
"That's what I plan to."
Boy, you can't beat the open road!
As long as you don't mind the odd bug or 2!
If you're listening to this in 2020, then you have a great taste in music💙
Been an Ellis Paul fan forever!!!!
Re-watching Me Myself & Irene....
I’ll just chill on my back patio to this song all the time!
Well now its 2021 so... Does my taste suck?
Try 2021
Yesterday I just saw Me, myself and Irene....This song reminds good memories from the early 2000's. Like if u love that movie in 2016 !!
Edgar Bermudez I got the movie on VHS. That movie has alot of filthy language.
Me and my girlfriend used to watch it every night when we were first going out. 15 years ago now! Funny movie.
And 2018 😊🤗
and 2019 ! hH

Of all the comments here, Youre`s the one that really explains what the song is all about. Thank`s.
One of the few videos my dad had on DVD on his boat was Me Myself & Irene. We would cruise the Gulf Islands of British Columbia in the 2000's watching this film. Good memories, this song brings them back.

Haven't listened to much music, have you.
The entire Me, Myself, and Irene soundtrack is great, I went directly from watching this movie for the first time and bought it, played it very heavily for almost a decade. Thank you Ellis for creating such a wonderful and lasting piece of beautiful art.
Most beautiful song I've ever heard.

Me, myself and Irene is no longer a comedy because of this beatiful sound
Such a great song. Surprized it hasn't been recorded by more artists. Rave on Ellis!!
It's one of those you can't sing as Good as the original 🤷♂️🤣
What a truly beautiful song about the dissolution of an old cycle in order to embrace the birth of another. I watch this movie at least once a year, and this song always puts me in a good place. Such a classic.
Song brings back a great memory of watching my dad riding the merry-go-round, at the carnival in Lansing, Michigan. He enjoyed it so much, just like he was kid. I can still see him smiling in my mind. Miss him much.
We return to this everyday.
Glad you're still here to comment on this incredible song by Ellis Paul. An absolutely perfect recording. Wouldn't change a single note.
Hidden gem right here.
The Best song EVER recorded, period!!! Thanks Ellis for giving us this master piece!
Everytime i miss "Me Myself Irene" i come back here and listen to this amazing song.
I found you sitting on a suitcase crying
Beneath my feet,
I feel the rumble of a subway train
I laugh out loud,
'Cause it's the one thing I hadn't been trying
The train came in breathless,
The passenger's restless
You say, "Baby, you'll never change"
You gotta get gone, you gotta get going
Hey, the world ain't slowing down for no one
It's a carnival callin' out to you
It sounds like a song,
Hits you like scripture
You paint the picture
With colors squeezed from your hand
Weren't you the kid
Who just climbed on the merry-go-round
Hey look, the world ain't slowing down
Hey, hey, the world ain't slowing down
Hey, hey
Out on the sidewalk,
Pigeon's do the moonwalk
I'll be dancing like Fred Astaire
The lamppost's are rockin'
The whole town's talkin'
Like a fool in a barber's chair
And I get the sensation,
The joy and frustration
Like being caught by a tropical rain
Freedom can numb you,
When there's no place to run to
It feels just like Novocaine
You gotta get gone, you gotta get going
Hey the world ain't slowin' down for no one
It's a carnival callin' out to you
(It's callin' out to you)
It sounds like a song,
Hits you like scripture
You paint the picture
With colors squeezed from your hand
Weren't you the kid
Who just climbed on the merry-go-round
Hey look, the world ain't slowin' down
Hey, hey, the world ain't slowing down
Hey, hey
You packed up all your handbags,
Throwing off the sandbags
I let go and you stepped free
I didn't want to loose you
You said, "You didn't choose to,
It's just how your karma came."
But thanks for the vision,
And the twenty-twenty wisdom
It hit me like a south-bound train
You gotta get gone, you gotta get going
Hey the world ain't slowin' down for no one
It's a carnival callin' out to you
(It's callin' out to you)
It sounds like a song,
Hits you like scripture
You paint the picture
With colors squeezed from your hand
Weren't you the kid
Who just climbed on the merry-go
Weren't you the kid
Who just climbed on the merry-go
Weren't you the kid
Who just climbed on the merry-go-round
Hey look, the world ain't slowin' down
Hey, hey, the world ain't slowin' down
Hey, hey, it's a big, blue world
It's a big, blue world
Ridin' on a big, blue world
Like a fool in a bar over his chair
Thank you.❤❤❤🙏🏾
❤
