    Thanks for this video! I was just breaking them with pliers like the male headers, but removing a tooth first seems much more reliable and less likely to damage other segments.

      That is true. Whenever I go to the desert or something, I always carry with me a female header strip, in case I'm stuck with only some rice that I'll have to eat really really slow for some reason :-)

    Would you recommend nickel or gold plated pins? I could imagine that the gold would be toxic for the ants if you could penetrate their armor, but then again it could also be a hazard to you. Any thoughts?

    • @idogendel
      @idogendel  5 лет назад +4

      On the contrary, gold is quite inert and causes no biological damage (except for the obvious bio-mechanical effects when it hits hard enough). Nickel is considered a bit more dangerous. However, I'd still recommend gold, because on rare occasions you just need to solder the thing, and I am told gold behaves better in that respect.

    • @Anton-cv2ti
      @Anton-cv2ti 5 лет назад +2

      Oh right. Now that you mention it, it makes perfect sense. All I remembered was the bond babe that died from being covered in gold, but that's a bit of a different situation. And thanks for the soldering tip, might just be useful once or twice!

    • @idogendel

    Can these be used to make hotswappabble sockets for mechanical switches/keboards?

    • @idogendel
      @idogendel  2 года назад

      Most of these headers do not make a strong connection, so be careful if there's a chance of external mechanical forces - especially if the connector has a low pin count. Also note - like with any mechanical connection - that live wires may experience some electrical bouncing during insertion and removal.

    also I don't pull out the tiny fork first, just cut.

    • @idogendel
      @idogendel  2 года назад

      Cutting through/against the metal part will make the cutter blades blunt faster, and many times the mechanical pressure will break more from the plastic than you intended. But if you found a way to avoid these issues, then by all means, use it 🙂
