I use Raphael 803 Quil Mop No4, Raphael 8408 No6/No2, Da Vinci Cosmotop Rigger No4.
Once in a while, I use a flat, when I need sharp square, trangular shapes. I also own a Da Vinci Maestro N06, that I use on Sundays lol Merry Christmas people!

i have the cheap joes pseudo sable brush, it is quite nice, doesn't hold as much water as sable of course, but it is a viable alternative

Happy Holidays, Matthew!! Thank you so much for your videos. Your straightforward manner and demos have helped me to improve my paintings. One question, I’m taking watercolor “classes” at a community college (really just everyone paints whatever and the instructor walks around and helps if you need it). I am enjoying painting with some of the people I’ve met there and it’s a good way to ensure I am developing a paint habit. Our instructor likes to use flat brushes mainly and tells us to do so, as well. How do you select what brush shape to use? Thank you!

I really want buy a mop brush for the first wash but I don’t know where to start with brand, size, shape and bristle-type. What do you use?

I know you asked Matthew, but if he doesn't respond, I use a Raphael 805 quill #4 and I'm satisfied with it. Go with the largest size you can afford. Size 4 works fine for me in most situations, but I definitely could use a bigger one on occasion.
