Fun painting. Something I've been doing more of lately is wetting the backside of the paper as well as the front when doing washes. It allows more time to paint and it keeps the paper from warping so much. Happy painting!
How have I missed your videos until now? Love this tutorial! Not only are you informative, but your voice is soothing, encouraging, and kind. The Bob Ross of watercolor!
This as a fantastic tutorial. I completed it fairly quickly, but I used a smaller format, 5 x 7. I’ve been afraid of trying to paint water (after a couple of seriously failed attempts). But I watched the video through, then played it again and followed along. I was quite pleased with my finished painting. My FIRST successful water painting! Tonight I went to dinner with my brother and sister-in-law whom I have not seen in years! I took along a stack of things I have been working on because my family always wants to know what I am up to. Among the stack was my painting following your process. My brother, who is quite refrained in giving praise picked out this particular painting and gave it high compliments. I mean, for him it was almost ‘gushing’ praise. It made me feel so good! In my rendition, it looked ‘almost’ like yours. My sea was deliciously misty, but I changed the direction of the light source, and used a different light blue-green color. Overall, it was still a replica of your work, so I’ll be attempting this one again, hopefully without a tutorial, and with slightly different colors. And maybe a sailboat in the distance. Thank you for teaching me to successfully paint water!
Kay, you are more than welcome and thank you so much for both following my tutorial and for your lovely story. What a lovely painting buzz you must have got from your brother, brilliant news. Yes, do this again using completely different colours, it can change the mood of the painting, maybe even a touch of silhouetted wildlife there as well, seal, birds etc. Paul 🎨
Thank you David, still give it a go though, you may surprise yourself. Your painting doesn't have to look the same as mine here, just play with the colours and textures and see what you end up with. Plus, any throw away attempts can be cut up into bookmarks or use the backs for testing strips. Paul 😉
I watched your RUclips videos on my tv all afternoon. This water demo was fantastic. I appreciate how you teach. Just joined your Patreon and will upgrade if I find I use it. Thank you! D

Hi Virginia, if you look to the bottom right-hand corner of the video, you will see some buttons there. Tape the square one with the horizontal lines inside (left of the cog icon), and that should turn off the subtitles. 😊

That's a great idea, I will test that one out at some point. Thank you.
@@TheDevonArtist Cool. You don't really need to tape it down either. Just stick it to a smooth surface. Have fun :)

Thank you for the very good explanation. What kind of brush you are using for the details ? Seems not to be in the material list ?
This is one I got just to try out and it's called the Tintoretto. Here is a video where I chat about this brush: bit.ly/3WMewOp
Paul 🎨
Thanks!
You're very welcome. 😃
Brilliant video, Is the paint you are using granulated? It has made some lovely texture on the paper.
Yes it is, as you say you do get some lovely effects from it. 😀
❤
Thank you very much.
😊
Thank you 😊
❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you 😊
How do you get the captions out of the way so I can see what you are painting???
Hi Virginia, if you look to the bottom right-hand corner of the video, you will see some buttons there. Tape the square one with the horizontal lines inside (left of the cog icon), and that should turn off the subtitles. 😊
What green did you mention at 9:55?
Hi, I did mention near the beginning at ruclips.net/video/BMvpkkalApA/видео.html This is the lovely bright colour of Viridian Green. 😀
Los subtítulos se agradecen , pero no dejan ver
Desafortunadamente, los subtítulos los genera RUclips y no yo. Probablemente sea lo mejor que pueden hacer con los videos aquí. 😟
No need to tape, wet back side, ...
I've heard of people doing that Ralph, I will give it a try one day as well. 😃
Isn’t the tape also good for creating an edge? That way the pic can be framed easily
@@goodgrief888 It is good for doing that, which is why I often use low tack tape around the edges, you just have to make sure it's straight. 😊
@@TheDevonArtist True! 😀
