Awesome product. Go big or go home. You should do this!
Thanks for sharing.
That's the plan!
Great Video Steve. I remember the set-up you made a few years ago. That showed us how to make our own drawers. This new venture using a cnc machine will be a great addition to your existing business and the 4wd market.
Thanks mate.
And those videos are still there for ppl to learn and hopefully give it a crack themself.
This new venture is for the ppl that don’t want to give it ago haha.
Great work stevo. A lot of pride has gone into them. I’m a fan.
Well done 😊
Thanks mate.
Still a long road ahead but it’s a start.
Nothing worth doing ever came easy
Super stoked for you Steve. Your contributions to the y62 community are very much valued
Congratulations. I think it's a natural evolution of your existing business and skill-sets. It's good to diversify your business. And if it's your passion also, even better. 👍
I think so too.
If I was trying to get into this game without having what I already have it would be a hard gig to get off the ground.
Love the hexagon look on the timber.
Thanks. Me too
They look great and a lot of thought has gone into the practicality and functionality of the set up.
Well done man, would love to see the creativity you will being to making drawer system for 4wds, some cool house kitch ideas would be sick.
That's a nice piece of kit.
Thanks mate.
Go for gold mate. You're obviously more than capable AND qualified to do, you have the demand there and the build quality is on point! I really love the idea and seriously think you should go ahead with this venture Steve. Best of luck and I look forward to seeing some out there on the market.
Thanks mate. Really appreciate the support and push towards some confidence for it.
Like anything new. Everyone always has their doubts about their abilities and if ppl will or won’t like it.
It would be nice to see the exposed ply edges finished with some black 1mm edge since it has such a premium finish on the faces .It be interesting to see the faces just in the hex as well with the carpet top would look mint .
Go for it Steve. Will never hurt a business to diversify.
Really cool, looks great
Thank you! Cheers!
Great work mate, they look awesome! You should definitely keep doing it. Once you show them off at a 4wd show, you’ll definitely get some customers. Keep up the great work. Cheers
I’d want a few orders first and make sure that those customers are happy with what I’m producing. That will prolly give me some more
Confidence into investing into things like 4wd show stands
When I view this channel building things from scratch brings me back to wood work in High School obviously the projects were a lot more basic but there is just something satisfying working with wood the smells of fresh cuts starting with nothing but a pile of wood to the end product you can see touch and use also admire that it's your baby it's your creation....makes me 2nd guess all the choices I made becoming a truck driver that basically only skills is to drive big things 😂 maybe in my 40s it's not to late to maybe change that. I guess I wanted good coin now without hard work and training to better coin and personal satisfaction....I can see the end product is going to be high end so big bickies but I can see and appreciate what goes into it....that's the problem most people only see the end product no understanding what's involved producing good Aussie made and designed product....looking forward to product testing see what abuse it can take in future videos. I wish you success in exploring and trying building products for the 4x4 community hope it becomes more, that it becomes apart of the business.
100% go for it, I would actually be interested in some from you in the new future if you end up doing it!
I’m doing it hahaha.
It will be a bit of a side operation to my main game for a while but once the work load is there then I can invest into setting it up a bit better.
Awesome mate!!! Love it!! Good luck I hope everyone gets behind you and it’s a great success
Fingers crossed!
They look sick mate, I like that Ply too that's pretty cool and uncarpeted would also look nice. At first I wondered why it would be useful having the split drawer but after thinking it would be good rather than packing things on top of other things in a deep drawer.
Exactly. I’ve had deeps drawers in the past and it was always just a pain pulling 2 things out to get to what I needed on the bottom
@@Australian4x4Adventures Yeah it can be that's for sure. My cooking bag always sits on the bottom under Respect The Bush bags and stuff like that.
They look great Steve, for me I'd like the raw timber painted black, but I reckon they look the goods. Cheers Steve
It’s wax sealed to prevent staining and everyone has different taste in what they like so that’s understandable
I want to be different to everyone else haha
Exactly what I was going to say…great work! 👍
I think he is meaning the cut edges of the ply rather than the flip up workbench, and I agree, painting it would probably make it look that little extra finished.
Yeah that’s what I was talking about.
The raw edges are sealed with bees wax to prevent staining.
The timber top is finished in food grade mineral oil so it’s food safe.
I understand it’s not to everyone taste and I get that. But I wanted to be different and there are lots of ppl doing raw ply edges in kitchens and displays because it’s trendy.
I’ll leave it upto the individual customer. If they want it painted cool.
But the default will be raw.
Ah all good, my mistake!
Give some thoughts to creating flat packs for the customers to assemble. Gives you a wider market. Takes some more r&d but once you get your jigs done it's just manufacturing. Not many doing it.
I’m getting ALOT of ppl asking the same thing so there definitely seems to be a market for it all. I’ve already started looking into it
Looking forward to what you come up with on drawer designs for your 80 Series build. I have an 80 Series also, and I'm due to upgrade my drawers soon. A two drawer stacked up & down w/a 75L chest fridge on the side is my preferred design. Leaving a flat floor above both drawers and fridge.
That’s pretty much the exact design I had in my 200 series
You should be happy, there very impressive drawers, me reckon you will do well for sure .
Thanks mate.
That looks 👌 👌👌
Hey Man dual slide draw system sick 🤙 full black would look slick in my Kakadu funny back looking for a good setup.
CNC machines bring back some memories awesome 😂 break some eggs to make an omelette go hard man
Well done, I am sure I will be in touch soon for an absolute custom build Ute. Keep up the good work
Please do!
The hex pattern is very smart looking.......different to all the others out there. 70odd kgs is a fair amount ( especially in a 200 series ) to be lugging around, plus fridge, and everything you put in the drawer. I made my own drawer to go in my Y62 when I had it out of 3mm aluminium....had it folded, welded the ends in and mounted to the folded sides to fix to the floor.......would have been well under 20kgs.
Still a great job, and given the ease of gvm upgrades, the weight shouldn't be a real worry......
You’ve gotta keep in mind that’s 2 full drawers and a timber chopping table.
Plus you are removing about 60kg with the old seats that come out.
Most of the weight comes from the runners. They are almost 30kg by them self
How did you do the handle on the drawer runners? They look great
I think you could have the option of grooves on the drawer side for dividers. I added dividers to my kings drawers and that was a huge improvement
I like the side initials!
Dunno if everyone will like the bare plywood look.
What if you offer painting them too?
Like orange on black? I think would be cool!
Good on you for considering combining your occupation with your hobby.Keen to support you as I do need some drawers for my canopy. But ultimately, price and weight is what has put me off drawers with my current ride. Had them in the past and have lived without them for past 4 years. Sorry if I missed the answers as it's now past my bedtime :) Thanks for sharing Steve
Awesome, thank you!🙏
Fantastic product, presume your only doing them for Y62?
Is the plyboard edge sealed as if it gets wet over time may split?
Is there enough room to get a cable in for light for last draw?
62 is the only one I’ve done so far as a set file for the cnc but that’s only because I haven’t had the opportunity to do other cars yet.
But I will do almost any car and design as long as I’m capable of doing it.
Yeah the edges are sealed with bees wax to prevent any water ingress
Chase that’s passion mate👍 I’ve got a drawer from your red head mate which I bought for the weight saving with the slides and the stand alone table. Have you thought about the table ? Love your work mate!
I’ve searched high and low for those table legs but I just can’t find them. I think he imports them for himself.
I asked years ago about buying a set from him and got told no.
looks like you might get a COUPLE of orders hahaha... well done
Great product, looks awesome and operates so well. Not sure about the "sucking when you pull it out" 😂
It’s pretty easily fixed. Just put a ring on it and it stops soon after.
Super simple 😂
Awesome! About the only thing I would change is the raw edge on the cut ply. Maybe offer a black laminate strip on them, as to ME, it makes it look a little cheap and backyard jobish!
Fully appreciate the feedback and it seems split 50/50 if ppl like the raw edge or not.
I personally like the look but can under why some don’t.
I can definitely do an option of painted or not.
I love the hex coated sheets, so much better than the shitty carpet everyone uses. The carpet is like Velcro for everything. Almost impossible to clean.
As for the particle board. If you seal one side with a PVA and water you should have a good vacuum seal. I use a 4:1 mix to moisture protect MDF and particle boards and it soaks in a dries quickly. Super quick with a roller and cheap.
Maybe the hex for top and drawer fronts and sealed particle board for all other sections. Owners can always paint if they want.
It would be good to fit into the drawer market, but obviously the price point compared to established brands will be a huge consideration.
One request is, please use a subtle size logo. A small plate is plenty. The huge logos on every bloody 4x4 accessory has gotten out of hand. It doesn't need to be read from the other side of the camp ground.
All the best in your new direction.
The particleboard was just for the test products. The finished drawers are made entirely from the ply as it’s a much stronger product for the application.
Great pivot!
Your reputation will hang on the robustness of the draws, along with their weight:- Two contradicting factors.
Given you have that CNC doo hickey, can you cut bits out of the draw sides and replace it with thin ply or aluminium panels? Another thought, embed stainless strip in the draw top and bottom then use the polypropylene carpet to slide on, maybe you can remove one of those draw slide pairs and reduce cost and more weight?
By the time I cut out parts and then glue them back together the cost would blow out more then the weight saving is worth.
I’ve done teflon slide drawers before ( build video on my channel ) but I don’t think that the drawer in drawer setup would work with teflon as it would tilt too much and have too much counter lever in the second drawer.
@@Australian4x4Adventures Fair enough.
When can I put my order in! but really this is what I've been looking for, never liked all the carpet on current options for cleaning dust and dirt.
well done, Hexaply is good-looking stuff! I'll take a drawer just like that for my 200 please. Flat pack?
I can prolly send it as flat pack with all the bits needed.
Msg me on Facebook or insta if you’re interested. We can nut out the details
They look great Steve, love the end product... Whats the length of the drawer system closed ? I might put an order in for one for my new project build too (if it fits), just need the table flipped to come out the other side of the Drawer 🤞
These ones are super deep to fit a y62 but I can make any depth.
These are 1080
Those draws look fantastic Steve. Now you just need to put them on teflon runners lol 😂(that will piss a certain red head off (just kidding)). Seriously you know your stuff in that field, no doubt they will be popular.
Hahaha. I’m not looking to start any fights with anyone. Including the red head variant 😝
@@Australian4x4Adventures lol 😂
They look unreal great job how do you get a set
Looks awesome mate! well done - can you take weight out of the build with cutouts in the housing? im not sure how much other drawer weight, just a thought.
It already has rails top and bottom instead of solid base and top to help reduce.
I could probably do something in the side but the difference would be less then a kg different.
70% of the weight comes from the runners and timber top.
For smaller parts on the cnc use holding tabs so the part can’t move idk what program your using but I can pick the width of tab and hight and then I can pick where I want them you just have to cut the part out after but it’s not much more work to clean up the small tab surface
Love it Steve! Been following your vids for a long time, I built my last set of drawers for my GU based on your vid, just bought a new 62 and been wondering what fit out to do. Are you considering doing a more simple single drawer to sit along side the Evacool or sticking to something with a bit more USP? Cheers! Anthony
Hey mate. Happy to do almost anything that I feel I can achieve.
Singles doubles whatever ppl want really
They look amazing, wonderful work. 👍
Out of curiosity, what are the specs on hexply? Waterproof, structural, weight, etc. 😎
Are you planning on looking at a light weight version?
I’ll have to look them up but all ply is fine for what we are doing with them inside cars.
Great stuff mate, i wonder if someone who also makes draws(you know who) will chuck a stink about it! 🤔😅 anyway all the best mate i have a future canopy build coming for my dual cab v8 might contact you later for a few draws 😎💯💯💯🍻
I doubt he will care and if he does then it’s only him that cares 😝.
Yeah I’d love to do a canopy
Can you do it with the plastic slides? Thinking of a Subaru Outback instead of a work ute.
I was just saying to the wife today that I need to do a Teflon slide version as a super light weight alternative.
But I don’t think the drawer in drawer setup will work with Teflon as it will tilt too much
Looks good, should paint the exposed ply on the edges so they don’t stand out.
Would you sell flat pack so I can assemble at home?
I’m probably ganna do the painted edges as an option as I like the raw edge look personally and a few other ppl in the comment section are the same.
But I understand it’s a personal preference.
Great design mate.
Have you looked into Thermo-Lite board ?
Hey mate love your vid great job! How thick is that ply? Also i live in the south east of Victoria will you do a flat pack style for pick up?
Hey mate. It’s 17mm.
I could do it 2 ways.
1 would be built ready to install like you seen in the vid.
The other would be full flat pack but it would need building and carpeting
Nice video mate and great work on the build. Just an idea, can you paint the sides where the wood has been cut, black. Would look so sick!
I can. And that’s an option for sure.
I personally like the raw look but understand it’s a personal preference
@@Australian4x4Adventures Yeah 100% Keep up the good work mate
Does wood glue actually bond to that hexaply .. I'm assuming its a phenolic coating? I like what you're proposing.
Yeah the glue I use is a hybrid hardwood/ Mel glue so it almost melts the products together
@@Australian4x4Adventures Superb. Keen to see where this goes... watching closely!
Great video!
They look great except for one thing (not thingk), the light edges on the end grain cuts.
They need to match the black hexagon!
That can be an option for individual ppl. I like the raw edge look as it’s a point of difference to everyone else on the market.
And being a timber person I like seeing the layers. But I understand that’s a personal preference thing
I'd look at thermolite it's a product they use in fibreglass boat hulls in place of plywood
I like it, looks mint👌
You going to add black laminate strips on top raw edges ?
I actually have been playing with the idea of changing my rear draw setup & go an upright fridge arrangement.
Will have to give you a yell Steve down the track if I pull the trigger.
I’m going to have it as an option of either raw or painted edges. I personally like the raw looking edge but understand that’s it’s not for everyone.
I just wanted to be different to everyone else on the market
Just an idea but how hard would it be to do a flat pack version for transport to buyer with self install instructions
Would be fairly easy actually.
It’s just the shipping cost that would kill it.
how would you do simple drawers with a top slide that can take abit or weight
You’re probably all over it but leaving little tags attached between the sheet nest and small pieces can help heaps with movement. 👍🏻
With the hexa ply it holds down perfect.
Awesome mate. Good looking stuff
Do you get any chipping or break out on the ply
I’ve had a few small strands come out if it happens to cut right on a join but that’s easy to fix while building
Hey Steve, product looks good.
You should check out 2 other companies that do very similar (just to see the competition)
Loaded drawers, use hexaply and cnc i believe and Best Offroad who use CNC to knock them out fast.
70kgs though 😬... Have you had a look at light ply?
Just food for thought. 👍🏼
It’s not the ply adding the weight.
It’s the 2 sets of runners and the timber top.
The runners alone are 30kg.
There is alot of people using hex ply and have done for a very long time.
It's just not seen on the influenza's content.
Hi Steve, great vids, long time follower (future customer?).
The draws look great! Didn't want draws in the back, but now I might reconsider.
Refer back to one of your previous vid regarding coil delete air bags for the rear. What did you have done to the front suspension? Was it through AAA/On track?
Cheers P
Hey mate. Thanks.
Ontrack 4x4 done all the mods including replacing the front springs to bring the front up a little bit.
Seal the particular board prior cutting on the cnc
The partial board was just for testing the sizes of the drawer design. I vary rarely cut raw board
🤷♂️ every man and his dog in Western Australia is knocking out draws timber and alloy builds 🤷♂️ good luck 👍
Well they can stay in the state that the rest of the country forgets about 😂.
When do you think they will be ready to purchase
Do a raw set, ditch the carpet front. The honeycomb and raw timber edge looks better. A lick of polyurethane on raw edge be mint
I like the raw look too but the most ppl will want carpet. But it will definitely be an option to not have carpet.
The raw edges have a bees wax finish on them to prevent staining.
Would you paint the raw ply on the edges next time
I personally like the raw ply look. It’s finished with a bees wax to help prevent staining.
It’s all personally preference I guess.
But I wanted to be different rather than just doing the same as everyone else out there.
But having said that. If a client wanted them painted then I’d do that as well
Do it buddy you only live once 😊
What edge bander you running it the back ground?
It’s an Excitech, the same as the CNC
How many hours do you put in to making the draws not including the installation to the car
there is about 10 hrs of work to cut and assemble the drawer ready for installation
Come on mate, nothing like a good suck when you push the drawers in!
😝. I couldn’t help but leave it in 😂
Hi Steve, love the passion and product. Have a BT50 with canopy, wondering if you have had the opportunity to build.
How can I contact you directly, perhaps email?
Take my money please. I got a 2024 wildtrak with the canopy, how much for set
Small world I have a feeling you cut my kitchen cabinets 😂
Hahaha. Very possible
Looks great but I prob wouldn’t have carpet on the drawer fronts. I prefer the finish on the ply. Just my 2 cents
So do I and when I re do my own set that’s probably how I’m going to have it.
I like the ply look
@Australian4x4Adventures Is there a reason you didn't use the hexa ply on the top as well? Is it not that grippy?
I'm loving the hexa ply look too!
@JourneyMapsLiveandLocal mainly a grip issue. The carpet does have more friction than the hexaply.
Also for sound deadening.
Most ppl use bags inside drawers so having the ply inside works fine. But on top ppl put all sorts of things so I think that needs the carpet
@Australian4x4Adventures Ok...that makes sense. I was hopeful that the heat ply might have more grip. It looks legit. I'm building out my drawers right now. Wish I had a nice CNC machine...lol.
Good luck on the ventures, man.
Love it very much very interested in the cost$$$ 2010 Mitsubishi pajero vrx
Cost will vary based on design and what’s required.
Unfortunately being new at this I haven’t seen every car so I don’t know what each will require to start with.
But that’s only a look and 10 mins with a tape measure away from knowing.
Best way is to msg me on insta or Facebook
And we can talk our way through it
Awesome mate thought using plywood
Thank you! Cheers!
will u be selling these in a flatpack form?
I hadn’t really considered it but if there’s a market for it then I’m sure I could.
DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hahaha. Thanks mate
Good design, just need to paint the raw edges black
Would you be selling as a flat pack as well as assembled?
Get yourself in to the melbourne 4x4 show 👌👌
Lots of ppl have asked about flatpack so it’s definitely something I’m looking into now.
Even a cut and edge service
@@Australian4x4Adventures yeah i recon it'd be a solid idea to sell flatpack: caters for those who want to build something but maybe dont have the time, want or ability to design and cut from scratch.
Hi Could I get an estimate of what you would charge for one of these draws same size as this one. Thanks
Hey mate. There’s a few variations that could change the price but as a guide
The double drawer unit with the lid is $2600.
Then it’s plus all the extra you may need or want.
False floor
Fridge
Power outlets install.
Let me know if you want to use my 150 for developing a set for the Prado 👍. I’m about to start doing a 3rd row seat removal and making a floor and drawer set 👌
The wife’s car is actually a 150 prado so I’ve already got one haha
Time for a challenge then.... pajreo sport, 7 seates still in place, 30l drawer fridge and a kitchen drawer.... then its all ow enough to put a bed on top.
Possible?
Anything’s possible
Well you are a cabinet maker unlike that guy who tried to sue you... but my wind up will not be possible without accurate measurement s 😅
I’m fairly sure he employs a lot of cabinet makers and he’s product isn’t too bad overall.
It’s more the person I’m not a fan of 😝
Ive never bought drawers before, would you get to a point where you can sell kits for people interstate? I think something holding people back on making their own is cutting the peices and knowing what to need. If you could flat pack it, that might change the game 🤷
Definitely looking into a flatpack version as there’s lots of ppl asking about it.
Hey Steve, just one question buddy, why go to all the work to design and build the draw system for an off road vehicle and NOT use any glue at all to hold all the cabinetry together !! And I'm not picking on you, it's almost everyone just staples or brad the draws together, I just don't get it, SORRY!!! Seeya Rob
It is glued and screwed together.
The prototype I was building at the start of the video was only stapled together because it was exactly that. A prototype.
The finished product was. Stapled. Glued and screwed
i saw u gluing the final product, maybe old mate commented prematurely
Maybe. But I’m happy to clarify things for ppl. I understand not everyone finds my videos that entertaining to watch the whole thing haha
This was bloody awesome. I reckon if you can make a quality product like this then you should add this to what you already do. I would love a drawer system like this in my 200. But I’m just not prepared to pay the prices that are out there, so I’m gonna do mine with a chippy mate.
20:27 What you have created is classy in my book and there are plenty of folks that would buy if you I reckon. Excellent work.
@OutbackOutlaw I’ve still got my original video up with a full detailed build on these drawers to help you make your own.
I’ve always said that ppl that want to make their own will. And there’s ppl that are willing to pay haha.
If you need any help just yell out.
I think 70kgs is too heavy Steve.
It’s the runners. They are 30kg by them self.
I’m looking into making a Teflon runner set. I’ll make a video if they are successful
Looks good! As someone who's creative... I've always had the idea of pulling out a 'chest of drawers'. Chest of drawers (complete) N/S and then the drawers themselves E/W.
Not for everyone I know...
Curious on weights with draws fridge false floor. Your 5k toyota you should watch andrew st clair white. He is doing a budget build on troopy with 500k on the clock. The video in Africa they go right into diffs wheel berrings, engine what to look for in depth with mechanic. It's out to patreons not to the general publi. 3 hours of engine diffs wheels brakes.
Andrew definitely knows his stuff and a wealth of knowledge.
Each set will vary in weight based on the car because the size Varys a lot.
The y62 will be one of the biggest because the boot space is almost 1200 deep where a 300 series could barely fit a 900mm set.
looks a bit wobbley ??
At 2040 of extension there is always going to be some side to side movement.
You have the $1000s of machines and shed at your disposal, why not???🤔
Many would give their left arm for the same opportunity?✔️✔️✔️
Terrifc vid as usual
Thanks mate.
evolution is a good thing…..
Indeed it is.
yes in deed but do all types of cars not just nissan and ford toyta ..
Definitely happy to do some custom builds too
Until it gets wet
What’s wrong with it getting wet?
Steve is that hex ply, that light weigh type?
Yep
@@Australian4x4Adventures Thank you
