There is a setting in the dash maintenance menu that says "roll test" this turns all driver aids off and let do as you wish, the real reason for this "roll test" is to put the car on the dyno without the drive computer freaking out
The Vito we have for work is a 113cdi long wheel base with a massive amount of grip because of the width of the tyres.. and I can deactivate the traction control etc. She handles like a beauty and is quick for what it is... Do the test again with ours!
i drive a mercedes vito on a day to day basis and its the best van ive ever driven it has the best interior than a transit cause the transit is so basic inside when i test drove the tranisit i hated it cause was noisey and very plasticy on the interior and the rust very badly after a few years but the engines are great they keep going forever the transporter will be my next van i think they look so cool
the silver volvo in the background on my channel is ours, a sisu is in the planning. we dont have any roads in my county classified as motorway i think. most roads outside towns have 80-90kmh limits, trucks only allowed to drive maximum 80kmh and is restricted to 90kmh. we got speed limits on the roads going from 30-40-50 going like that all the way to 100. not easy to keep track on them all the time driving unfamiliar places. thanks for the sub.
Vito have what's called "test mode" which deactivates all driving aids, the Asr off button only allows you to deactivate it under 50km/h for low traction take offs If you want to compare "race vans" then I would suggest driving the v8 diesel Vito
I saw bodyparts of the vito falling on the ground due to rust . you need alot of replating to save the vito's unibody... and then again the rust pops up from practically anywere!
dude i drive a ford transit van, i can tell u im not restricted by law to 60. vans that are restricted are usually restricted by the companys so the drivers cant thrash em and for fuel economy purposes.
When you turn off the antispinn the next problem is that if you spin you will hit the rev limit about 2400rpm, so it's not deleted with a nanno sec as she says, it's rev limit.
@RsRocket31 I know it's not fancy engineering. It's the standard. But I only used that to prove my point. And in most Mercedes you can't fully turn off the tractioncontrol. She knows how to drive, she beat a british police officer around a track in the same car. And she's got a racing license, something I doubt you have.
I drove one of those VW Transporter vans 2 days ago. Its got very good handling and a lot of power. I like it because u can rev it up quite high without changing gears.
I like the transporter not only cause its faster but because its built more ''agresive'' It just looks better and also the vw is higher wich makes it also better. I prefer the vito not as much as a van but more as an mpv. The vito is more car-like then its van-like. If you really want a van that can work hard and also be fast buy vw. Also merc needs more maintaince then the vw also the merc is expensiver and you dont want that as an hard worker.
Why you all complaining about another motoring show on TV, the more the better in my opinion! Chill out. Oh and VW's win hands down every time in my book.
well my spelling is a bit bad too, im a lorry driver too and english is not my first language. the gearing have its saying on the fuel economy, but the wind resistance starts to be stronger over 70kmh so driving much over that they say is not economical, i only drive innside the town so have not gotten around to test this out. i got some videos up here if you want to see driving in north norway.
You would think so but in my van I can be at the end of most slip roads joining a Motorway and be doing 100mph... Also when Ford first brought the 200ps out they put it on a track against an Audi A8 and for the first 300 yds the Transit out did it on acceleration.
@RsRocket31 Then explain to me how the traction control would come back on even though she pushed the button. She works with cars all her life, I think she knows a thing or two about them.
Compare this to today's program, where they compare the e-Transporter and Mercedes e-van, 110hp vs 114hp with an ~82 mile range @ 56mph. :) The UK is ceasing gas van sales in 2030...
Enlighten us, swami. Why is it not pointless? Which points does it make? The MB is a "massive" 1.4 seconds slower. At least Sabine Schmitz's lap of the 'Ring in a Transit was jokey based. This is pure bollocks.
that doesnt matter, i'm just wondering what makes people think this is worse than Top Gear? and look away from the humor part, i know that is a key in Top Gear. I like both shows, and i'm veeeery confused about this.
Because they feel that it wouldn't be profitable here. They seem to have reason to believe that it probably wouldn't sell well here. After the Phaeton failed, I don't blame them for being a little skittish with the market here.
A VW will always last longer than a BMW. Idk why though its really weird. As soon as a BMW reaches 10 years old it starts falling apart. And VW makes the best engines in the world as well. Dual port, 2.0 TSI, 1.4 TSI, 2.0 TDI, VR6 The list goes on and on :)
how much is a brand new mercedes vito sport x dualiner. No I don't meen the one in this video. I want a one with the seats in the back. Could someone please reply to me. Thanks.
You can actually turn off the ESP and the ASR very easily. Either you take out one of the fuses (*g*) - or you just switch into dyno-mode. Not everyone knows how to do this, but it´s possible. So for a real comparison it should be switched off.
why would you put anything sporty on a transporter van?? i think performance would be the last thing i'd spend extra money on when buying one of those. i'm sure someone hauling a bunch of furniture or something doesn't care much for the brabus rims etc.. these things must sell terribly
@zood3000 I wish i had a vito or transporter...... But its to damn expensive to have one in holland due to the very very high roadtaxes on dieselcars/vans. However it hasnt been always expensive untill july 2005 we had the ''gray licenseplate'' And you could drive a van or pick up. (only this vehicles) For less then 50 euros per 3 months on roadtax. But now its at least 370 euros per 3 months :(
@EBTerriers Ofcourse it will because the merc has more horsepower. But the VW transporter is simply the best. And im not about speed when it comes to cars. So i dont care bout that. Its nice that you are quick but not nescesery ;)
we´re driving a merc Viano since 10 years and it´s by far better than any VW transporter. actually we´re driving the 2012 model and it´s bigger, more comfortable, has more power, and the same fuel consumption... so tell me what´s better about the VW?
I have the new Transit, and I had the new Sprinter, I kept the Transit, my GOD in the Sprinter you could stand up on the gas, the damn thing only did what she knew , also I like more the Transit dashboard
Bilo bi ljepo da sam znam kaj ovdje radim.... kod nas u HR ni neznaju kako dobro zive... ovdje se nema vremena zivjeti, tu ne postoji kafic, ljudi rade non stop
@AdrianC12345 Like i just commented in a other comment, the button have to be hold down for 10 secounds, if not the the traction control just turns off while she hold the button down, after 10 secounds, its off until she turns it on..
There is a setting in the dash maintenance menu that says "roll test" this turns all driver aids off and let do as you wish, the real reason for this "roll test" is to put the car on the dyno without the drive computer freaking out
"Time for a quickie..." Sounds goos to me Vicki!
The Vito we have for work is a 113cdi long wheel base with a massive amount of grip because of the width of the tyres.. and I can deactivate the traction control etc. She handles like a beauty and is quick for what it is... Do the test again with ours!
Hold the ASR button for 3 seconds and it does go off. Pulling out of junctions then makes your progress sideways and very fast!
In Vito or Sprinter. Hold the ASR button and than turn the ignition on. That Deactivate the the ASR and ESP nearly off
2:06 "Time for a quickie"
2:22 "OH YES"
I love any transporter but almost nothing can beat the ...traction control!
to deactivate traction control in Vito van need hold button for 10 sec.
In Europe you get nice vans like that and here in Canada we get a re-badged Dodge Caravan that has trouble with an on-ramp...
i drive a mercedes vito on a day to day basis and its the best van ive ever driven it has the best interior than a transit cause the transit is so basic inside when i test drove the tranisit i hated it cause was noisey and very plasticy on the interior and the rust very badly after a few years but the engines are great they keep going forever the transporter will be my next van i think they look so cool

i thought they did that but i wasnt sure. anyway if they do a standing start they will be labelled as copiers because top gear does standing starts
When you turn off the antispinn the next problem is that if you spin you will hit the rev limit about 2400rpm, so it's not deleted with a nanno sec as she says, it's rev limit.
2:08 Time for a quickie? Yes please! Lol!!
the engine on the 2003-present Volkswagen Transporter T5/
Volkswagen Caravelle/ Volkswagen Multivan
Engine
petrol engines:
2.0 I4
3.2 VR6
diesel engines:
1.9 I4 TDI
2.0 I4 TDI
2.5 I5 TDI
@RsRocket31 I know it's not fancy engineering. It's the standard. But I only used that to prove my point. And in most Mercedes you can't fully turn off the tractioncontrol. +Fifth gear can you make a video the latest vw van vs the oldest vw van?thank you.
I drove one of those VW Transporter vans 2 days ago. Its got very good handling and a lot of power.
I like it because u can rev it up quite high without changing gears.

After previously owning a Merc Vito I have to vote for the Transporter. The Merc is just way too unreliable.
in germany you can buy the transporter with the R32 petrolengine with 4Motion.
@perpelle
one of the joy's of a diesel engine! you always know its running:)
Why you all complaining about another motoring show on TV, the more the better in my opinion! Chill out. Oh and VW's win hands down every time in my book.

"Time for a quickie.." Aaaww you little dirty tart you..
vw transporter is the best choice, i have one and it was the best decision ever to buy that
well we keep it because there is a whole office in it and it also has 6 recorders. that's why.
Did you notice the blinking light on the dash of the Mercedes ?
@RsRocket31 i think on some cars ESP does not go Fully off.
I hate to share mr j. clarksons views on such things, but 'catastrophic understeer' really does apply here
What's the bloody point of having a v6 200+ bhp engine and not being able to use it, my 2.7L Vauxhall Vivaro go's like shit off a shovel.
The 3.2 V6 t5 was even faster
@RsRocket31 Then explain to me how the traction control would come back on even though she pushed the button. She works with cars all her life, I think she knows a thing or two about them.

The UK is ceasing gas van sales in 2030...
Not the kind of future I want to embrace. Sorry, but I'm definitely not going EV.
didn't they also make a 3.2 v6 version of the transporter?
Yes ! good point ,they did make them during 2003-2009 and this was filmed in 2008 so it was available but maybe not in the UK
Can't you take out the traction control fuse out of the fuse box?
Why is the vw classed as the fastest van in the UK when the vito us more powerful and a lot quicker?
Moss well actually although a Nissan elgrand 3.5 e51 isn't a van it's in the same mouldy and would put these two to sleep
@@saqibmahmood6353 I don't think so, have a look the New T5 3.6 biturbo and we talk after buddy 😁😁
Isn't the most powerful VW van motor a 3.0 V6 TDI which they also stuff into a Transporter... ?
so wat do u like then a smart car or a VW BUG
Lets be honest having a V6 Mercedes van is more cooler then having a new S class
Someone put an AMG 4.0L V8 engine in a Vito. 11 out of 10 I'd love to have one!
Who is buying these vehicles to race first of all? Don't you think this review is pointless.
Hey wise guy A it's a shoot out and B it's not pointless
Enlighten us, swami. Why is it not pointless? Which points does it make? The MB is a "massive" 1.4 seconds slower. At least Sabine Schmitz's lap of the 'Ring in a Transit was jokey based. This is pure bollocks.
No one... we just buy one T4 that we can blow it up with dynamite :D
You are pointless
Handling testing bro
@fifthgearuk, would You please test Hyundai H-1 Van like this?
I like them both, they are so cool looking
they are both starting across the line at the same speed thats how they make it fare
that doesnt matter, i'm just wondering what makes people think this is worse than Top Gear? and look away from the humor part, i know that is a key in Top Gear.
I like both shows, and i'm veeeery confused about this.
You are not going to race the van. It transports goods.
shouldnt they do a standing start rather than a rolling one. Would make it fairer.
Because they feel that it wouldn't be profitable here. They seem to have reason to believe that it probably wouldn't sell well here.
After the Phaeton failed, I don't blame them for being a little skittish with the market here.
@pulangur
but is there any other option for u besides quickie?
how much room in the storage comparment or ( back ) is there ?? because i want to pu a lounge and a tv in there ??
prefer the merc for styling and quality/Vicky prefers the vw so she can get out her rear and enjoy the longer gearstick.
Lmfao
+3rk4u couldn't stop laughing
A FWD van, wouldn't RWD be better?
I still like the Transporter... :D
should hold the traction control button down with some tape,,
I've seen a ford transit beat a Merc sprinter...
merc vans are nice on the eye and thats it.
A VW will always last longer than a BMW. Idk why though its really weird. As soon as a BMW reaches 10 years old it starts falling apart. And VW makes the best engines in the world as well. Dual port, 2.0 TSI, 1.4 TSI, 2.0 TDI, VR6 The list goes on and on :)
is this 2.5TDI a 5 cylinder turbo diesel?
she doesn't know how to hold a steering wheel while cornering ?
Um... unlike you. Who aren't driving at all.. she's the one driving and not you.
She is a professional driver and you say she doesn't know, come on man 😄😄
170 odd brake on a front wheel drive?
i love my vito... nothing like a vito 122
R7I8P6Z the Vw is miles better it’s like driving a limousine 👍
vans are not restricted to 60mph on motorway, trucks are restricted to 60
Astro AWD is the quickest van on the road
i have a long T5 2.5 tdi... it kicks ass!!! i love it!
what about a transit st?
how much is a brand new mercedes vito sport x dualiner.
No I don't meen the one in this video. I want a one with the seats in the back. Could someone please reply to me. Thanks.

What about germany with their M5's?
Don't forget the waterbed!!
not if you've got six kids! Transporter Shuttle 130 chipped - woo hoo! (and 9 seats!)
@quattro4kss
Yeah but if you get the Caravan with the V-8 it's quicker than hell.
"Time for a quickie" lol
its a common known fact that overall guys are better drivers than galls.
204 bhp and over 400nm in... A VAN?! Sheesh...
Lovh it What's up, gvys. tendency base What do you thinp?
TRANSPORTERS RULE!!! GET IN LINE VITO BEHIND THE LDV
Hold on, I said that a year ago, I was stupid at that time.
Could she propably be quiet to listen to the beautiful 2.5TDI Sound?
why would you put anything sporty on a transporter van?? i think performance would be the last thing i'd spend extra money on when buying one of those. i'm sure someone hauling a bunch of furniture or something doesn't care much for the brabus rims etc.. these things must sell terribly

Well I think Mercedes didn't want ot build a racecar and said safety first.
Vito's are built in Eastern Europe. Having seen a few models around 5 years old, i'm not convinced. They seem to be rust buckets. VW all the way!!!
what they don't mension is the poor quality of the Vito's bodywork. They get rusty after 4 or 5 years
we´re driving a merc Viano since 10 years and it´s by far better than any VW transporter. actually we´re driving the 2012 model and it´s bigger, more comfortable, has more power, and the same fuel consumption... so tell me what´s better about the VW?
@whitbyjet65 top gear acually review it how it should be for real life examples
I have the new Transit, and I had the new Sprinter, I kept the Transit, my GOD in the Sprinter you could stand up on the gas, the damn thing only did what she knew , also I like more the Transit dashboard
time for a QUIKIE
I'm talking about a "VAN".
@Ascend3r uhhh first of all i race my moms mini van all the time... wish i had traction control but i dont...
no 5cyl 2.5 petrol. 170 hp 240 nm torque
Bilo bi ljepo da sam znam kaj ovdje radim....
kod nas u HR ni neznaju kako dobro zive...
ovdje se nema vremena zivjeti, tu ne postoji kafic, ljudi rade non stop
Time for a cookie!
What about hold the button down 10 secounds like it says in the Manual u got with the Vito -.-' But anyways, nothing beats WV Caravelle/Transporter
@AdrianC12345 Like i just commented in a other comment, the button have to be hold down for 10 secounds, if not the the traction control just turns off while she hold the button down, after 10 secounds, its off until she turns it on..
maybee but doesnt brabus do a v8 viano?
This isn't the fastest van the VW makes...they make the brand new routan...which is basically a dodge caravan...
i drive a 04 vw passat TDI 145bhp actually
