This was eye opening for me. Its a beautiful spot for the star party, no doubt. I'm an OG, and the most significant changes i notice is that people have moved away from the large dobs that dominated star parties in the 80's and 90's when I was going to them all the time. My 18" dob was a moderately large 'scope, in a field which frequently had up to 30" 'scopes. I want to come to the next one, hope I can make it. I'll bring my 12" if I do.
Thank you. I know there were a few big dobs, I think at least one 18”. But the smart scopes are really prevalent in astronomy. Many times supplementing a visual setup. I may get to Oki-Tex this year. I’ll do a big dob count if I do. I will take note of the dobs at the upcoming almost heaven star party.
Well I have to say being removed a few weeks now and seeing your video I’m going to go out on a limb and say it was one of if not the best events we’ve had on all fronts. The feeling I have for running the event… you seem to capture so well because it’s hard to put into words how truly special a place SKMC is. I can’t thank you enough for your help and support these last few years for AHSP!
Great video, Jeff! Man I wish I could've stayed one more night. I'm gonna plan on staying for the whole thing next year! It was also great meeting you, & hanging out while imaging for the 2 nights I was there! Hopefully I'll be seeing you at the Night Owl Star Party in spring!
Thank you so much for the kind comments. Wonderful to hang out and image with you as well. I plan on being at Spruce for the September New Moon. Hope to see you there!
Wish I could’ve made it. This was right when my Oldest Son (Charlie Stewart 25) had passed away. It’s been tough on all of us. We found him on August 18th. He passed away in his room at my Mothers house in Ceredo. I will be making it up to the KVAS Astronomy Weekend and speaking about astronomy as a therapy for PTSD on that Saturday. The conference is starting on the 14th but I’m heading up on that Friday.
Thank you so much for watching. I am so sorry to hear about your loss of Charlie. Praying for healing and remembering how awesome I am sure he was. Best wishes at Blackwater. I am heading to Utah for the annular eclipse. Best wishes and keep up the great work.
@@jeffballphoto Hi Jeff, I lived in London U.K, we had a few weeks of nothing but clouds at night. I hope next wee we get some clear skies, I hope one daybto go to a star party here in the U.K, Have a great Labour day weekend and clear skies 👌
How late were you able to observe? I was there in 2022, I loved everything about it, beautiful facilities, very nice people, but the fog cut too many nights short. I'm trying to decide where to go this year, it's my main vacation, I want to maximize my chance of good weather.
Hello. Thanks for the message. I believe we had 2.75 full nights. I think clouds rolled in one morning very late. It’s a wonderful place. So much to do even if the weather is a little off. Take care.
