Brilliant Gary. Some really great images that you took. Well done to Gary for the drone footage. So many compositions you must have been over the moon.
Quite an enjoyable video for winding down the year. A few days until my cataract surgery which should make 2022 a great year to enjoy just about everything, especially photography.
As a newcomer to woodland photography and woodland chaos (2yrs) but not new to photography I really enjoyed your commentary on compositions and what to look out for, its always helpful to see how other photographers go about their picture taking, I found this video very interesting...Thank you...
Speechless!!!! That yellow tree!!!! Watching you composition and talk us through, priceless. 🙏 thank you. Does it mean I’m high iq if I look at the s curve picture from left to right? 😆
Bril Mr G. Super shots. Ducks are a star and the frosty grass and mountains super duper. It would even look good in a square format - maybe !! - arty? Workshop location potential? MJ
Great video Gary, loved the ‘Avenue’ shot and the lake/S bend /snowy mountains. And I can relate to the camera & settings also as I have the same canon set up. Thanks 👍😁
The dark woods looked good but I thought that image needed something else. Perhaps a head of a deer peering between the trees. Nice images for what looked like a rather dull day.
Great, you managed to get so much out of this session. Going out next Tuesday and was debating whether to take the tripod or not. This video helped me to make up my mind, tripod goes with me. Thanks for your super videos, happy New Year.
Could you perform your panorama technique using a ball head in woodland photography? You need to test your need for nodal rail while shooting vertical subjects at different distances which you have failed to do. Yet. Great images in this video.
Love the long exposure with the tree stump in the foreground. I'm also always surprised how civilised the British woods seem to be. Where I am, in the Australian summer, I see enough Tiger snakes on the paths to persuade me to not contemplate wandering off track into the scrub where I can't see them!
As always a lovely watch. You’ve some eye for a shot. I’ve tried some woodland shots myself but they always end up a mess. Good to watch and see how you find a composition.. thanks very much 👍. Happy new year 🥳
Was in Aviemore the other day the village was mobbed i took myself of to Loch Morlich think thats how you spell it. It was a campervan village in the woods. Im waiting on van in April. I do all my travelling at the moment in my SUV. Took some photos of the beach amazing place even in the rain.
Hi Gary, Thanks for another brilliant video. I loved the long exposure photograph with the remains of that tree as foreground in the loch. I also liked the woodland photograph with that one tree that had the very green bark. I wasn't so sure about one of the two images with the S-curve sand bar. I thought the one with the ducks worked better than the one with the long exposure, where I thought the water provided, perhaps, a bit too much negative space and made the image unbalanced. It wasn't so clear to me what the subject was, whereas with the ducks, they appeared to be swimming to the distant mountains and after seeing the ducks, the eye followed where they might be headed on up to the mountains. Without the ducks, it was harder for the eye to get across the water. Of course, this is entirely subjective, and I know not everyone will agree with me.
I seemed to spend the entirety of your video saying to myself "Ooh! that's nice!" and "Wow! That's lovely!" and "Ooh! Look at that!" You know your stuff don't you Gary!?
Hallo Gary. Like hast Du, komme gut ins neue Jahr und bleib Gesund. LG Pierre, Germany
I've been here many times to that Loch, one of my best photos imo is from there, you should try in early hours as the milky way is so clear and perfectly visible over Loch from the cafe, great photos and all the best for 2022
Very good photography Mr Gough. Just goes to show how difficult woodland photography is when nature does not provide that beautiful canvas that we expect and take for granted. I have a point of concern regarding those filters, and I wonder if you share my concern. I have noticed ( in watching other people's videos too ) that quite bit of force is necessary to insert those filters in the tight holders. Now these would not cause any problem with older type primes or even IF zooms as the barrels are reasonably rigid, but a lot of people use them on extending zooms or even primes that extend quite a bit during focusing. I am quite sure this will cause barrel droop and misalignment of the optics in the long run. In any case, best wishes for the new year.
Loved the images with the sand bar. I find woodland photography sooo hard but maybe I just need to practice more. Happy New Year to you and Paula and Gary B. Great drone footage Garb B.
Nice shots Gary. I really liked the dark tree ones next to the Loch. I think you where at Loch Garden there but I could be wrong. Many an evening have I struggled for a sunset or after sunset shot in those woods but you nailed them. Can I ask... where is that avenue of beach trees at 7:18 in the video? I know the area really well but cant think where they are. Loch Pityoulish and Loch an Eileen are fave of mine in the area.
Gary i was thinking would it not be a good idea to have a photography trip tutorial on landscape photography. Or winterscapes etc. Say a long weekend etc where we could all chip in for cottage log cabin hire etc. Being taught in the outdoors and being on the outdoors i think this is something where you could have your own school of Photography. Just thought i would shoot this idea past you for you to consider.
I do this all the time Mark. They're called workshops 😁😁 I think a meetup is a great idea though. I'll give this some thought and post a few dates and ideas 👍👍
Gary whats that lens your using and what camera is it attached too? What is the maximum zoom distance that you can buy? I found on skye i could get fairly good shots but needed closer
Great shot,s Gary, do you turn off IBIS and silent shutter when using a tripod? That,s the advice with Olympus camera,s. Mind the IBIS is so good can use handheld to very low shutter speed,s, who want,s to carry a tripod ex for ND shot,s?
Hi Gary, loved the video and some cracking shots but I do have a question. I noticed you used a graduated filter in at least one of the shots, can I ask why you choose that option over taking two exposures and blending them?
Hi Steve, I prefer to use filters. Sometimes, I blend multiple exposures. Remember, I teach a lot and therefore, it's important for students to see the results immediately. If you choose not to use filters and blend instead, then that's fine also 👍👍
@@GaryGough Now you've said about the teaching it makes perfect sense. I know your an absolute whizz with photoshop so had just presumed you would exposure blend, but that answers my question, Thanks Gary
You’re an old fart like I am (no disrespect meant), so how did you get comfortable not using the viewfinder? You must not use it at all since you don’t even have the rubber eye cup. I always feel like I may be missing something, be it in composition or some technical thing, if I don’t look through the viewfinder. That last woodland spot was, in the words of another landscape photographer, quite juicy!
Excellent work Gary and beautiful photos.
enjoyed that great video and realy good shots very nice composition
Beautiful photos Gary📷👍🏻
Last two photos were stunning!!
Brilliant Gary.
Some really great images that you took.
Well done to Gary for the drone footage.
So many compositions you must have been over the moon.
Exceptional talent !
Fantastic images, terrific content👌
Excellent especially last images of the trees with the single white birch (?) Thanks for sharing.
Many thanks!
What an amazing location, and really nice shots as always, thanks Gary.

Wow. Superb. The last few images are astonishing.
All excellent but I thought the final dark woodland shots really told a story! Fantastic, as always!
Professionalism shines through. Happy New year to you all.
Great video Gary. I wish you the best in 2022 !
I can’t wait for 2022 another year of your work.
I think you're a brilliant photographer. Thank you for your generosity of time and technique.
Kind of you to say, thanks Crystal 👍👍
Lovely shots...
This was great!
Some great work. great video 2x👍

Such great images. I love hearing the thought process.
Nailed it! First class! Gough at his finest :)
Beautiful... Happy New Year Gary 🎉
Fab images. What an inspiration.
Thank you for all you have shown us in 2021 will look forward to 2022 all the best for the new year.
Enjoyed this Gary. Particularly like the shot at 7:15. Happy new year to you.

Woodland is for me one of the most difficult scene to render ... Nice sharing Gary! PS: I like Nessie at the end ;-)
Nice one buddy it would be great to revisit with a bit of fog 👍
love ur pics Gary as always ur pics are bang on 1st class, all the best for 2022📸📸
Absolutely beautiful amazing photography. Beautifully composed.
Totally enjoy watching your videos.
Great video
Fantastic images once again Gary, loved this video 👏🏻
Thanks 👍
What a lovely place Gary. You did it proud mate.
Fab shots Gary, but you were SO close to Lochan Eilean in the Rothiemurchus estate. What a pity.
Absolutely brilliant photos for sure, Gary. Have a Happy New Year!
Great video Gary, loved the ‘Avenue’ shot and the lake/S bend /snowy mountains. And I can relate to the camera & settings also as I have the same canon set up. Thanks 👍😁
Wishing you and yours a very happy and healthy 2022 and hope to see you after I get my surgery behind me. Clive
All the best to you and yours too Clive. I'm sure you'll be back out there fighting fit m8 xx
Lovely set of images. Have a happy, prosperous and safe New Year.
The dark woods looked good but I thought that image needed something else. Perhaps a head of a deer peering between the trees. Nice images for what looked like a rather dull day.
A fabulous video.Real quality images and the thought process used to deliver them.
Cracking video Gary. Love the images. The evening woodland shots looked terrific 👍😊
Cheers Paul. I might purposefully go out and shoot more woodlands at night :)
@@GaryGough go for it mate 😁

Absolutely class photography!!! Enjoyed every bit of this.

I hear ya about the early sunset. Every winter I feel stressed to get a run in before it's pitch black.
Fantastic footage Gary stunning images , I thoroughly enjoyed this thank you

The worst thing we have in our country are grass snakes and I've never even seen one :)
Beautiful images but dark at 4 o'clock? That's crazy!
Brilliant images Gary, really look forward to Thursday's to see another video, May 2022 be a great year for you.
Amazing. Love your vids
Wonderful images. I especially like the last set of trees. The side lighting is beautiful.

Great pictures, I absolutely admire this one displayed at 7:14 What a beautiful path!
I loved that one too. Imagine how special that would look like after a fresh snowfall :)

Yep, I know what you mean. Always great to hear other opinions. Cheers 👍👍
@@GaryGough I wonder what I would have thought if I had seen that image without the ducks at all. It could be the ducks skewed my opinion.
Another great vlog from the woodlands, Would love to learn how to process images like these to bring out the details as you have done here Gary.
Great idea. I'll make an announcement on this later.
It looks like a Z bend to me! I'm jealous of your ability to find compositions in the woods.
Enjoyable to watch again Gary, stunning images and have a great new year
My favourite one was the image at 7.15. I really like it.
May you and all your family have a happy New Year and a safe, healthy 2022.

That 1st image of the S bend , I'm sure you noticed but the bend mirrored the shape of the distant hills adding another layer of interest 👌
Watching now that work is done with. How dare it get in the way lol.
lol Cheers Richie xx
