I am learning fly Casting and your third tip with the Casting lenght helps me a lot. I create tailing Loops because i stop too early. With my #8 i definately Need to cast Longer!
I have to say that without these videos I would probably not be fly fishing as often as I do with as much passion as I have. Thank you for all the help.
Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup ruclips.net/user/postUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.
Such an awesome instructor, thank you Pete. I’ve been noticing that lately I’ve been getting those annoying knots. This is a great refresher , I guess tailing loops are like the yips in golf , They can even creep up on the experienced casters
THANK you very much im an amateur at fly fishing i've fly fished like 2 Times and i get that problem Every time these videos are very useful thanks for reading
This was my frustration today. I had to rebuild my leader 4 times. The more knots and cuts I made, the more frustration I had. Which caused even more. Had to just go home. I was doing the first and third. Trying to overpower a short stroke to fire the line out. Guess I can't do that lol.
Thanks for the great video. The only thing I would like to see is the issue of an obstacle of say a rising bank, some vegetation or a hedge or wall behind the caster thus forcing the caster to have a much higher back cast. All casting instruction videos conveniently (Rio etc) leave this problem out either demonstrating whist stood in the middle of a river or in a flat field. Cheers DW
If you have too much wrist, get a rod/cuff combination where you can put the rod butt into your cuff. That will get your the feel of not breaking the wrist. There is a casting aid that does the same thing, but you probably already own a cuff.
Both 1 and 2 were misapplication of power. Number 1 was more common where rotation happened early in the stroke aiding the over power. One of the most common actions that cause these tailing loops wasn't mentioned and that's creep....when your rod hand unknowingly travels forward before you make the forward cast.....effectively narrowing the casting arc. You could also get a tailing loop by breaking the 180 degree rule.....the back cast and forward cast need to stay at 180 degrees. So, if you have a headwind where you want a high back cast you then have a low forward cast......opposite for a tail wind.
Tailing loops are not caused by overpowering the rod. They are caused by the rod tip dipping during the cast. Keep your thumb moving in a slight arc. If you do that you can put as much power into the cast as you want.
Is the cameraman a fly fisherman? He's trying to show us what happens at the back of the backcast, but the camera keeps cropping out the line. Its like the cameraman has no idea what we are trying to see!
Had this happen to me today worse than normal. I was doing 2/3 things mentioned. Explained very well, thanks

You nailed my error, breaking my wrist too much acceleration… thank you Sir!
I have learned so much from you and your excellent skills as a instructor. Thanks for all your videos and expertise

Great reply!
Thanks Pete for sharing your knowledge. It will help anglers understand some causes of the tailing loop and become more efficient casters.

i messed my leader with so many twist i was almost screaming. thx
I was screaming in the wood, LOL
I wondered what caused those tailing loops but now i know thanks again
I'd like to come up for casting lessons, but the August 2016 class was cancelled. Are there private lessons available ?
Thanks Pete, much appreciated.
Thank you - this really helps!! ...back to reviewing basics LOL!!
Thanks for share.
How do you cast with a reel that has no drag its a rim control reel it free spins both ways how can I cast when it just spins out line
Too much wrist on the forward cast causing tailing loop. What be be the fix for that type of casting error.
If you have too much wrist, get a rod/cuff combination where you can put the rod butt into your cuff. That will get your the feel of not breaking the wrist. There is a casting aid that does the same thing, but you probably already own a cuff.
Pretty sure this is how I am messing up my casts while fly fishing
Nice concept, but the camera is too close, and so we don't actually see any of the loops as they're being discussed.

How to cast from sit in kayak.
You Orvis instructors are really weak on your biology, but we Love your casting advice!!! thanks a bunch from a casting cave man!
What motivates someone to add an irrelevant and idiotic criticism to the comments?
@@reallyfishfish9932 sounds like a question to ask yourself.

Boring that i havent got any fish yet ;) well its probably because of all the tailing loops
