The best instruction series I've watched. Simon Gawesworth is professional perfection. This video and the others with Mr. Gawesworth are an investment in time rather than a waste time. I wish I came across this series years ago but I'm glad I've found them regardless. Thank you Mr. Gawesworth, you deserve praise.
Thank you so much, this video was a game changer. I literally went from frustration to the point of quitting fly fishing, to catching fish the next day! Honestly I couldn't thank you enough.
That explains alot about whats going wrong with my casting. None of the other how to casting videos have covered the pointers you've shown.. Thank you!
such a clear explanations of faults I completely recognise in my casting. It has inspired me to go out and practice tomorrow! well got a free day so might as well go fishing.
I found an old fly rod in the attic about two years ago. Tried for the past couple of years to learn on my own how to cast, which was becoming quite frustrating, and I was beginning to lose interest in fly fishing. Found this video, and it improved my cast 100 fold, which has allowed me to love fly fishing. Thanks!
Just discovering your videos, Simon, even though I'm an experienced caster. LOVING them and passing them to friends. The BEST instruction I've found, especially your spey series. Peace.
Think you Simon. Been out of the loop for a while with health problems. Those videos are very important for me at this moment. Hope to regain my confidence on the water this year. Think you again for all your teaching skills. Walter
I read the other comments people made and I agree with them, excellent instructional video. He is a very good teacher, I am learning much and I can't wait to get back out on the water and try the techniques to improve my casting, as well as avoid the bad casts, like the creep and the others. I'll be happy when I am consistently making good casts instinctually, like I do when I'm spin casting. It's going to be so nice to watch that line roll out to perfection and the fly looking like it just landed like a real fly. Thanks to Simon and Rio for these well put together instructional videos.
Good info Simon. As a 21 year guide, I always tell my beginners to "pause relax" their arm when they reach the stop position on the back cast. This prevents creep and enforces the turnover timing of the back cast.
I have been fly fishing for a few years now and the aggressive power stroke is about 60% of my issues and this video has been great at educating me to stop the rod on the back cast ...Thanks
Great info Simon. Like a swing coach in golf or baseball fly casters also need a coach to see their wrist movement and their loops. Practice practice practice as long as you're practicing the correct things. Thank you again for another great video. I'm sure I will refer to it many times. Hope to see you at the next Fly Show
My takeaway - I'm doing just about everything wrong. Lately I've been struggling mightily with my cast, and I think I see many components of casting that I need to work on. Thanks.
We asked Simon and he said it sounds like you have a "tailing loop", which he talked about in this video. If that is the problem, your acceleration is not smooth enough. Hope that helps a little...
Top notch instruction. Concise, clear, well edited. No rambling.
Thanks Benjamin :)

I just started fly fishing in the Bow River in Calgary, AB, and I realized I make all three of the mistakes he mentioned. Very useful!

Great, thanks for the comments - glad you enjoyed it.

Waiting a moment to feel the line load the rod before starting my forward cast fixed most of my casting issues.
Cheers Mate!
Awesome! Thank you for sharing! All my fly lines are of Rio brand, varied and well designed!
Very cool, thank you :)
Back again, a training manual i constantly refer to.
I think creep was my biggest problem. Thanks for the info!
A lot of people have that problem! Glad it helped...
Good forward loop video

I do all the mistakes you point out! Very good, I am just about to go out to fish seatrout with bellyboat now
Good luck with that!!!
great explanation thanks
Great demonstration! Wish there was some slow motion of the correct form.
Good call. We'll make a point of adding that for the next casting films!!
Excelente la Explicación! !!
Great video
My takeaway - I'm doing just about everything wrong. Lately I've been struggling mightily with my cast, and I think I see many components of casting that I need to work on. Thanks.
Glad you liked it - thanks for the comment, and good luck with solving this!!
Хорошо объяснил!
Excellent, excellent video. would thumbs up 2 times if I could !
Hi nice video
I have a question.
When I cast forward the fly is tangling down before it goes forward. Why?
We asked Simon and he said it sounds like you have a "tailing loop", which he talked about in this video. If that is the problem, your acceleration is not smooth enough. Hope that helps a little...
I think I use force too much or acceleration on my forward cast. The question is how to avoid that?
@@raymelvinchan try and remember the acronym "SSFF" - Start Slow, Finish Fast for each casting stroke...
Perfect video ! Thanks a lot, greetings from brazil !
Simon. I i cast for more distance my leader doe not go in a straight path. And of course windknots. Practice a lot but it is not goiingto good way.
Actually I am that bad. Good video thanks for the help.
Gold
The creep part had me dying
Bety easyJet learning😊
Regalenme una cañita k no usen 😃😃🤗🤗
Luckily all my fishing only requires 20' roll casts.
リオ、バンザイ
At 4:45 no one's that bad. I know someone whose done it that badly. lol
ok i learned how to cast.... what's next?.... i mean by far i did not catch any fish at all
Check out the Far Bank School of Fly Fishing, for more great info, and keep after it.
Iv got creep 😢😂
Not too difficult of a fix! Try recording yourself so you have a mental picture of what you're doing wrong. Best of luck!
When I watch him cast I just want break my rod in half and go home.
He is exceptional, but a little practice everyday goes a long way!
