Singaporeans over 50 may remember in the past, black chai tao kway used a different dough. They were sliced with a string into small rectangular pieces. The hawker wouldn't tok tok tok until the kway become chwee chwee but every single piece is fried crispy on the outside intact. If you bought a 5-cent one, it would be served in an army leaf folded into a broad cone shape. You could pick them up one by one with a toothpick. Does anyone know where I can still find this type of old school chai tao kway in Singapore?

Carrot cake is a TRADITIONAL TEOCHEW classic food! And is ' Char Kway ' in the Teochew dialect.
