      Great to hear the fingers still have feeling and you can move them. Follow dr’s instructions, don’t skip any of your physical therapy, and you’ll be better than new ……. eventually …… just keep working the therapy and accept that it’ll take longer than you wish to get there. But you will get there. 💪💪

      Delighted to see the surgery went well. I just got my first 3d printer (going constantly for 29 hours now) and your channel has honestly been a pleasure to watch. I got an A1 mini this week. I wanted a printer to solve small, unusual problems, and your channel has shown it's very possible to do.
      My first print was even functional, and not a benchy. Looking forward to your next upload. Look after yourself. A fan from Ireland!

    Nice video. Just a tip. It's easier to use abs or asa. Because you can glue abs with pvc glue. Pvc, abs asa react to the same solvents. And pvc glue is just solvent and en devolved pvc.

    Very pleased your surgery went well hope you recover quickly. I look forward to your videos every week to extend my 3D printing knowledge. I would like to share with you something that I was taught many years ago as an engineering apprentice, and have always been aware of when I have been “hands on” around machine tools etc in a workshop. I noticed in last weeks video that you have a ring on your left hand, a wedding ring I believe, to avoid an accident becoming a very serious injury please take it off. Rings can get crushed onto your fingers when handling heavy items such as lathe chucks or milling machine vices. Also they can get caught in rotating machinery. I hope you take this advice in the spirit it is intended , you will find it awkward enough with one hand out of action, never mind both. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Stuart

    9:35 I want to say it's called the radius. I had a similar surgery in early 2009 where my ulnar was partially shattered at the wrist. Make sure you do the exercises the occupational therapist gives you and don't put any excess weight on it until you are given the ok. I speak from experience as I snapped a pin and still don't know how almost 15 years later.

    so funny just subscribed to you last week.. i own pool service company and just a couple weeks ago i designed and printed a wrench tool for removing the return eyeballs (for when they come apart and only the bottom piece is stuck in the threads still. seriously one of my favorite tools. I also made one for the rubber wing nut plugs, just a handheld to all the crank down the wing nuts.

  • @AllThingsMech
    @AllThingsMech 2 месяца назад +1

    The other bone in your arm is your radius. That's why when someone checks the pulse at your wrist, it's referred to as your "radial" pulse. They are feeling your heartbeat within your radial artery, which runs along that bone. Probably more than you wanted/needed to know, but there you go lol. Glad the surgery went well!

    If water does seep into the tube (or get sucked in by pressure changes), a small drain hole could be drilled at the handle end or through the bottom of the socket hole.

    Instead of the plumbing department plugs, we used plugs that were more like tubes made of flexible plastic that came up above the waterline, so that if the water in the skimmer freezes it will crush the tube instead of cracking the skimmer itself. It also allows you to pour antifreeze into the skimmer line without draining the pool to below the skimmer level.

    • @FunctionalPrintFriday
      @FunctionalPrintFriday  2 месяца назад

      interesting, but then how do you get rid of all the antifreeze-laden water in the lines come spring?

    • @sleepib
      @sleepib 2 месяца назад

      @@FunctionalPrintFriday We use the non-toxic RV antifreeze. Most of the valves on pool filters also have an option to discharge it to waste, like backwashing but skipping the filter. We also used antifreeze in the lines from the filter to the pool, and that just gets flushed into the pool.

    Something I might have done differently on the wrench is to lean into the water ingress problem. If you design a cone into the opposite side of the square wrench with a drain through the middle, and add a hole on the handle side, then water can easily flow in and out, and then you won't have to fight the buoyancy when pushing the wrench into the water.

    I appreciate that you printed a jig for your hole locations on the drive end of your tool. Now that I've been printing and designing for a while now, I print up jigs for hole locations, alignment etc. all the time. Something I never would have thought of doing earlier on in my journey. Simple practical tools are some of my favorite to design and print.

    hey! good luck withthe surgery. I have had pain in my wrists on and off, and sometimes I'il use my left hand forhte mouse. once you get a couple of hours in, you get really good at it. so if that was a worry, then you should be fine. as for loosing the use of one hand, it sucks, but you`ll find that, provided that you have a cast of something wimilar, you`ll get quite good at using it as a stump. not the best but it works. good luck! also, maybe some of use can creat some content for you. we could creat functional stuff, submit it, and all you`d have to do, is present it. if you want. keep it in mind, especially at first..

    New subscriber and looking into purchasing my first 3D printer. I’ve watch a few of your videos and had a couple of questions regarding your process of creating items from the 3D printer. 1. Can you just print the areas you want to test fit for or does the whole item need to be printed? 2. Does filament sand easy? Was think on some of your first iterations, just using sandpaper could help decide if the area needed to be corrected.

    I'm all for over engineering things for the fun of it, but it seemed like the only failure point on the old wrench was the nails. Could you not have just replaced the old nails with, say, a piece of stainless all thread or a bolt? Plywood is used on boats in the ocean, so I think just replacing the steel would've made that into a tool that lasts 30 years. Whereas I imagine PETG and PLA will become brittle when exposed to salt just like most plastics do, PVC being an exception. Either way, glad your surgery went well!

    Maybe HDPE pipe (since it's black) would look nicer. Similar price for small amount. You can shim using cut up cans, foil, thin metal etc instead of reprinting, less waste. Nice project nonetheless, I watched it ha!

    I'm curious, why don't you share your files in STEP format. You are very generous with sharing your skills and STL files. Yet, STL files are nearly impossible to edit. STEP files can be modified by pushing and pulling on surfaces.
    Your design this week is inspiring. My house exterior water shut off valve is buried 3 feet below ground level because of winter. So it's very likely I'll be taking a cue from this video and design myself a PVC wrench. Thanks for the inspiration.

      You can modify stl files in freecad to make them solid parts that can then be remade any way you need. Then if you like, you can export them as step files.

    Why not use a little CA glue, PVC glue or epoxy instead of the set screws? Then you don't need to print a drill guide either.
