    I always wait about an hour after I've made the sale then I'll message that person back and thank them for making the purchase then I inform them that I gave them a 5 star buyer rating and then tell them that seller feedback is always appreciated.. By doing this I have managed to keep a 5 star seller rating vs before I would ask for feedback I would never get any.. I've found I get more traffic and more features from Facebook when I have a 5 star seller rating

    I have great success selling on local sales!! Furniture I no longer need, clothing brands and more. I enjoy it and I make great money! I have had very little no shows (only one) and I’ve sold 15 items so far. Tips I have is I don’t give address until they say they are on the way. I only sell from my house if it’s heavy furniture. I also say no holds and tell people I also respect and try not to assume everyone is a flake. I also don’t sell junk. I see so much junk that needs to be just thrown away!

    You are awesome, love your channel....another negative selling on Facebook is that they allow your post into ONLY 10 group pages. Where I live (Charlotte, NC area) I could potentially put my item post into 50 or more groups as there are so many buy/sell/trade groups especially considering Charlotte boarders many cities just a few miles south into South Carolina. That part annoys me. Another negative, SO MANY people use the Marketplace platform that once you post your item, you need to wait 7 days before “renewing” to get your item back to the top to be seen. After a posted item is at the 4 day mark the likelihood of selling that item becomes unlikely unless a person is looking for that specific item. Tip, if I may....use your “notes” app or google pages app or MS Word app to write the title of your item and the description, and save it in a folder labeled SELLING with the date you posted the items. Then, once it’s time to renew the item...DON’T RENEW IT. delete the item and create a whole NEW post to sell all the items in the folder you created 7 days prior. Why? What happens is Facebook along with most local apps will show buyers how many days the item has been on line. I sell and buy so when buying time comes, first thing I look at is how long the item has been posted. This gives you a little better chance at getting the item at a much lower price. Days on line show 25....the same item being sold by a different seller showing days on line is 5....I’m immediately going to attempt negotiations and even really low ball that seller before communicating with the 5 days on line seller. So if you SELL I suggest DELETING the posting after 7 days and create a whole new listing for that product. If you are a buyer, attempt the items that have been on line longer. Now the hiccup in the buying aspect is soooo many folks do not mark their items sold so because it shows it’s been posted for 25 days, many times the seller will message you back that the item is sold...depending on my mood, I may say ok thanks and leave it or I may suggest marking the item sold so I don’t ask about the item again in 2 days. Lol. Anyone have thoughts or tips?

  • @Choppini
    @Choppini 6 лет назад +1

    That's how I usually do it. People who are honestly interested offer mostly payment in full by e-transferl, when I mention that there are a few people lined up. Excellent close-up pictures - as many as possible - of CLEAN items, and a good description are important. And being flexible, sometimes I offer delivery when I am on a grocery-shopping trip and they live in the area.

    I meet the buyer at my storage unit during business hours. I run Craig's list ads and I always put my phone number that the buyer must call. I let the buyer know that I don't respond to text messages due to spam. This way if the buyer is serious they have to actually call me. I then tell them to call me 10 minutes before we are suppose to meet so I can meet them there. I have never had a No Show or wasted trip. I tell the buyer to bring the exact amount of cash as I do not have change on me. I have had excellent success with selling on Craig's list. I find that on FB Market place people like to play low ball games behind their computer screens.

    Good details explained
    Yes, one of The biggest pros of selling locally is the NO shipping cost that can sometimes intimidate the buyers as well
    Besides that no fees for local selling and no hassles for returns and negative ratings
    once revenue has been made the entire goes into seller's kitty!

    Good tips. Group pick-up/exchanges good idea if you're very active locally. I agree with that "con" about people not showing up, re-scheduling, etc. A lot of people are really a pain in the ass. Excuse my language, but if you've been doing this long enough I think you'll agree. Luckily there are many nice people too. Good video Lindey. Best tip: absolutely stay safe and be careful where you meet. NEVER bring people to your house to meet. I might be too overly nervous about this, but better to be safe, right? :-)

    • @mulliganstew72

      Lauren R hey, so would you say it’s such a pain in the ass that it’s not worth even doing it? I’m planning on moving this year and am currently disabled where I have flare ups and can’t really predict when, so I need to be really careful how I ration energy. That said on “good days” I can post, reply & meet up...can schedule around my condition & have a friend step in if needed, and also and have a place to meet close to home. I just keep going back-and-forth about whether it would be worth my time. Of course I need the extra money...! I’ve heard there are so many wishy-washy characters and it’s just really time-consuming and a royal pain in the arse so curious to hear what you think?

      I have had four come to my house. Most of my items draw women, depression glass, vintage home etc. I have never had a problem. I did have one man who agreed to leave the cash under a bag of deco rocks. Item was on my porch seat. Wasn’t much money but hey didn’t use any gas. A pool deck had to be pick up but hubby was home and a pool filtering system I couldn’t lift. Had it moved to front porch. Most people on FB are local. Check out their page to verify vicinity and they’re not new or fake.

    In a former incarnation I refurbished and sold laptops both locally and online. Had two customers via Craig's List late last year, neither of whom I knew personally, both complete strangers. The first showed up with a personal check and was quite miffed that I wouldn't take it, stating, "I'd no idea this would be a cash only transaction". Mental illness is more common than you'd think. The second showed up with no money. When told that I could process PayPal payments, it took him a full hour of bumbling and consulting with his wife before he finally pulled off the transaction. Those were typical of my local sales experiences.

    Things about selling on Marketplace: It has a button for shoppers that automatically sends, "Is this still available?". I don't waste time on those. Someone who is really interested will actually type a message. I have punks trying to hone their haggling skills, making a low offer. I never respond. Trolls don't buy. I might carry something to someone at home or at work if I'm going by. I have no problem with someone coming to the house to pick up, but then I'm selling expensive tools and I have two big dogs outside and two small dogs inside.

    Excellent show! But I disagree about not showing up for a scheduled appointment just because you can't reach them via Facebook a half hour before the time. Not everyone's tech works correctly all the time, and Facebook is annoying enough that not everyone keeps an app on their phone. You need to protect your reputation and show up! Better yet, get their phone number so you have a backup way to contact.

    1. Use buy sell groups!
    2. FB has most traffic.
    3. Keep track of all interest. Use a notebook or something, your item on top and names of ppl that contacted below. Messages, comments. Write down significant info like offers, time, whatever, next to their name.
    4. Make sure people will actually meet. Ask if they're still on before going to meet. Schedule group pickup times if you're selling a lot. Every X at X... At least some buyers will show. Meet in public places! Just off major streets. Not huge parking places.
    5. No fees, no returns, no reviews!! It's a lot of work though...

      I attempted something similar to that with a guy on Craig's List who was allegedly selling a used car. I attempted to arrange a meeting twice, and the second it became clear I wanted to conduct business in populated, well lit, security camera festooned places, he accused me of trying to "dictate terms", and demanded that we meet in secluded public park areas. I decided it was in my best interests to give up.

    Hi I am having trouble listing clothing items on fb marketplace. Every time I go to post gives me a message “... items must be genuine and authentic to be on fb marketplease”. All my electronics and non clothing items post fine. But when I go to post clothes I get this message. What can I do to get around this ?

    Great tips Lindsey Glenn. Do you get the money from them 1st? I have found that they want to "inspect" the item 1st before they will pay me the agreed price, or we'll meet & they'll try to talk me down even more. I always hate handing over my item, I'm always afraid they'll try to pull a fast one & take off with it, but whenever I've asked for the money 1st, I've found that some people get upset. IDK, it's a fragile balance sometimes. I've had alot of people stand me up too, it's so annoying. Also, alot of people like to waste your time with not giving you a strait answer, oh the joy of selling. lol

      @carolhearn8157 4 года назад

      I'd advise the customer that it's just like buying anything else online. The customer pays the advertised price or can schlep all over town looking for bargains. You can't have the advantage of shopping online (like a catalog with pictures,descriptions, and prices), "order" the item, and then try to get it for less. Some people will sense that you're new and try to push you, but you own the item and set the rules.

    Right, so 2 years later and you are still getting views on this vid. I like to use my local Wal-Mart and tell them I will by the Amish Parking. Right now I am trying to sell a sewing travel bag and some wall shelves. Posted this morning and have 22 views so far on the travel bag, but only 4 on the shelf units. I just pushed the shelves to alternate places ( buy, sell groups) and hopefully they will sell by the weekend. Thankyou for all the tips. Stay safe.

      @@CarlosRestrepoImages ok.... so when people respond to my market place ad..i simply go thru the motions to sell the item...then when they ask about meeting up i say i prefer paypal and shipping, or fb intantpay, or something similar....but will meet under the right circumstances, i just say its so much easier just to ship the item....9 times out of 10 people go for it....

    • @J-Rad-
      @J-Rad- 5 лет назад +1

      another tip is to offer to pay for shipping....if the item you sell is market up a few extra dollars to include that cost....which i usually do

    I recently had an issue with a seller that sold me an air fryer for 40 bucks! Long story short, Got the fryer home and it did not work, so she gives me the runaround for the past week about an exchange which never happened so I went and purchased a new one and asked for my money back needless to say I did not get that either. Keep in mind this was a unit that was supposed to be in perfect working order because supposedly she had used herself. So now I am out her unit that does not work, and 40 bucks. And no I am not happy about it so I decided not to purchase anything that Is electrical on Facebook.
