Thanks for the video. I made one myself recently sized to fit but as my first wood project I made several mistakes. The thing is not quite square since I cut the grooves with a router and they were a little off. I don't have a table saw either so it took me forever to get everything cut out. I did add a top and removed the upper face so I feed cans straight in and made three for cans and one for tuna cans. Having a top makes for another shelf in the pantry. I found with tuna cans the top of the can is thicker though so once in a while it rolls against the wall and stops. Next time I need to route out a groove for that top lip.
I used your design to make a sorter to fit inside an existing cabinet for my in-laws this Christmas. Able to accommodate 12 varieties in 2 different slot sizes. Thanks for the tip on the router slot cutting jig. Worked like a charm.
I've built a many Saw Table (Table Saw) Work Bench, Jig saw table and Router table but none as elaborate as yours. Mine have always been built on the fly, on the job, used to build whatever was needed for the office or store I was working on. I always gave mine away or threw them in the dumpster when the job finished. Your's my friend is a work of art, a beauty. D ps (forty years building retail stores and business offices across the nation from New York to San Diego, Seattle to Key West). Couldn't afford or desire to ship them home.
WOW I am shocked to see how well your videos are turning around, the camera work is great, the editing is much better, the music was even fitting! Love the idea for getting organized, that is like 85% of all my projects. Congrats man! I am cheering for you!
Steve, your videos has some of the best camera work among woodworking videos I've seen. And it just keeps getting better and better. Same is true with your projects!
you sir, are one of the kindest men on the face of this planet. thank you for the quality content and the energizing presentation.. I subscribe to this page with pleasure!
Hey Steve, Thanks for keeping it real! I have been watching for your videos for a few years and it is good to see you having fun and keeping your projects down to earth. Your video production is always improving and your personality has remained the same. That's a great combination. Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing more from you in the years to come. I pray the best for you and your family! Brett
Made this with my son and it’s now been in use for about as long as this video has been out. Note: I made mine with 1/4 inch and 3/16 plywood and it’s more than sturdy enough. If I were to make this again I might try making it all out of 3/16 board to cut the weight and space a little.
the free plans without my personal info is very much appreciated Thanks very much. I was trying to figure this out like no one ever did it - YOuTube has everything. and . I may adapt for a non-woodworker guy - circular saw and no router - glue and screw. the angles and dimesnions are really appreciated.
I need a better way to organize the cans in my food storage. I looked up DIY can rotation system and your video came up! My dad is going to help my husband make a bigger version of this to fit in our cold storage for our cans.
Just discovered your show. Enjoy watching it very much on my lunch hours. We are getting a new house that will have room for all my tools (currently in storage) and I am getting a lot of good ideas for organization and for projects from your show. Keep up the good work!
Yes, I'm glad the holidays are over. And I am trying to clean and organize....my only problem is....January isn't long enough!!! lol Thanks for sharing, and I'm sure I'll be making some of these. Take care.
O my god finally found a wooden can rotater so happy to find that new someone had to make one so happy i found that thanks for that can't tell you how happy that makes me feel
very cool project one of the most practical yet good now when the temp here drops somewhere way below 40 deg celsius I can get into my shop & build one myself cheers Steve looking forward for your vids this year
You are inspiring me i have been watching your videos and every time they are better and better and hopefully when i get back from basic training i will be able to do some wood projects and you come up with things i never would have thought of good luck looking forward to catch back up on your videos in june!
wow Steve! great quality video and the lighting is great. great planning for the project and all around good video! probably one of your most professional looking video yet.
Steve love the project a great idea for storing cans much beter than stacking them up. I would have made the top crosspeice flip down on a piano hingeand hold it closedwith rare earth magnets
Great video! And thanks for posting the plans! Really nice addition. I wish I would have seen this last year. I bought a crappy metal one from Amazon that doesn't work at all.
Could someone please tell me how and where to get the plans for the canned food storage. I love this and my husband is going to make it for me, just cant find the plans. I know he said they were below but what I click on is not for this takes me to a worktable
Hi steve Just a little helo from Denmark - Europe, im always looking forward to fridays to see your new videos, and I'm still waiting for then episode for the pieces for the chess board. Take care - Peter
Great job I'll have to make on for my pantry. I made your hammer the other day, turned out very nice. I'm going to make on with inlay for my friend. Thanks love your vids.
Great idea. I wonder though about the loading of the cans, the top must remain open for that to happen with this design. I thing I would leave the top front cross piece out - or make it just a thin strip so we could load the cans directly from the front. This should give more options for placement, as well as ease of access to load.
Love it! I almost might use this idea for a different type of storage container I've been wanting to make. And I ran into that same problem with the angled corner for the bottom level with a hopper we made in my robotics class. We fed connect four pieces to a robotic arm.
Hi sorry don't do organized!but chaos I can organize very well, good video presented like a pro , when you watch other wood worker I end up comparing them to you, your near top 1 of presenters, G
Steve, dont seem to see the plans in the description? otherwise this is a to do as we NEED organization, i am looking at variuos sizes as well so will need to modify sizes....but basic idea is GREAT!
hey Steve. You rock. haha. been finding myself laughing-at/watching your vids every now and then when i'm searching for woodworking vids/tips. finally subscribed bahah. entertaining and informative channel. Too cool. Thx for taking the time to post and help others. Love it.
If you are only removing material on one side of the cutter then you must feed against the rotation of the cutter, which usually means you are feeding from right to left. In this dado situation you are cutting on both sides so it doesn't matter. However, and this is where you could really get yourself into trouble, if you were making those dados in two passes with a narrower bit that is the situation where you really have to pay attention to which direction to feed on the second cut.
After watching some other wood working channels, I always come back to this one. Steve is my fav. I relate to him more I guess. 😂

Shared this with my prepper group. Great way to keep stored food rotated by date.
And now you're on a dhs watch list. Lol
CCWSig Have been for years. Anyone not on a government watch list is not paying attention.
lol! I can't argue with that. Have a good one.

thats a good and handy project, will help for those of us who shop for bargains and keep the goods rotated. Great job as usual Steve

Excellent timing, I need one these. Your video quality is great. Now you just need your own half hour show on TV.
So weird watching your older videos! Always consistent good videos! Bring back the goatee!
Made this with my son and it’s now been in use for about as long as this video has been out.

You could put this system into an old working refrigerator and have your own pop or beer machine. Keep up the good work! Your a good entertainer.

Another useful tip and a good idea for the kitchen. My wife wants one!

Wow!!! Just what I need for the pantry ... And I didn't even know I needed it until now! Thanks, Steve.
Love the theme for January. We all can use some great organization ideas.
Love your spirit, man. Just love it.
I mean the spirit of your personality, not the spirit level.
Great concise instructions and thank you for the free plans.

I'm not really a wood worker, I just find this highly amusing to watch. Also, he's got a striking resemblance to Hugh Laurie.
Great project Steve, can't wait to see what 2013 has in store!
yeah the color is improved greatly.
Love the quality of this video, it's more clear, and better music. Good job Steve, keep up the good work.
I believe this is a better organizer (albeit occupies more space) than a drop down can shelf.
yes, it reaaaaaally makes a nice diffrence. Love the aperture/blurred background :)
Your ideas and designs are awesome. Thank you for what you do.
The project file ends in .skp. What program / sofware is required to open it? Thank you sir.
I grabbed the .pdf instead. Thanks!

It's a SketchUp file. Very cool (and powerful and FREE) program. Everyone should check it out.
I just downloaded SketchUp. Thanks for that info.
You are inspiring me i have been watching your videos and every time they are better and better and hopefully when i get back from basic training i will be able to do some wood projects and you come up with things i never would have thought of good luck looking forward to catch back up on your videos in june!

omg steve what a great work filming this video... so professional....
Hi Steve:
A simple but practical work, thanks for sharing the idea.
Steve love the project a great idea for storing cans much beter than stacking them up. I would have made the top crosspeice flip down on a piano hingeand hold it closedwith rare earth magnets
Great project as usual. I liked your column in this month's Wood, I hope it becomes a regular feature.
I had the exact same idea!!??!!
you made, as always, a great job on this.
it's just crazy to see someone else builds your idea!!
Great project to kick the year off Steve
Cheers
Mike
Great video! And thanks for posting the plans! Really nice addition. I wish I would have seen this last year. I bought a crappy metal one from Amazon that doesn't work at all.
You're awesome Steve! The new Cam looks great too! Thanks for the video and plans.
Great project and excellent directions. Thanks for posting that.
I like how you use your featherboards as stopblocks. Now I don't have to make any for my router table!
Whoah! That has got to be one of the quickest yet possibly best videos that I've ever seen from you! :-)
Good thinking steve this will help the house wives a lot in the kitchen to ogernize thier can food stuff
I loved the project and I bet Kreg did too!
He is my fav... I love his creations, and his style ... good job Steve 😊👍
so at 3:37 your blade doesn't move but still it cuts... how amazing!
Could someone please tell me how and where to get the plans for the canned food storage. I love this and my husband is going to make it for me, just cant find the plans. I know he said they were below but what I click on is not for this takes me to a worktable

You are my idol, so simple to follow...better than Norm
As always, fantastic video Steve!! Keep this up, and you might even land a television series!
Great job I'll have to make on for my pantry. I made your hammer the other day, turned out very nice. I'm going to make on with inlay for my friend. Thanks love your vids.
You Sir are almost an Ingenious- Genius...Great idea...makes me want to stock up on all those canned foods. Thank you..
Just an idea; If you made the top front cover hinged so you can load cans from the front, then you could make two or more of these and stack them! :-)
Very nice. It is easy to refill and remove.
an awesomely crafted video, great camera work, great editing...and the project was fun, too. :) keep up the good work!
AWESOME IDEA!! I hope you keep up with the organizational projets (even past january!)

That's the stuff I DO like. Sweetness dude.
Nice job, you're a good woodworker
I love the Sketchup Plans! Thanks so much!

You can scale it to any size you want. Or scale it up to any size you want. Great job! Thank you!
How many cans does one slot hold?

I'd love to have plans for this that allow them to stack and have the cans front loaded instead of top loaded.
So cool! Very nice and usefull project. Congratulations!!!
Marcelo from Brazil.

love the new look of your video. really awesome. happy new year steve!
7 years ahead of his time. But where I get cans now? They are a thing of the past. :-)
Very nice ! I would make some kind of adjustable size on just one slot, for different can sizes.
Very good job and nice video editing.....enjoy MM...!
Pas mal comme idée.J adore !
Liking the new camera and editing Steve;)
