I use 100% leca for my monstera and allmost every plants in my house. A big bowl under the pots were the roots kan "drink" as much as they want for one hour. And they all TRIVES 🤗. Before , i hade problem with small flies and mites but now they dont like to live and lay eggs in the "soil/leca" . And ofcause, some plant fertiliser little now and then.

Great video. Here in the UK I have been using the Soil Ninja (Etsy) mixes which have been really good but I often wonder how they know what percentage of each substrate to put in. They put the percentages on their packaging which is really good.
After I watched this video, I ran into the store and bought perlite, and mixed it with my potting mix on my pothos cause the leaves were turning yellow for overwatering!
Got two question for you.... instead of perlite or vermiculite u others (spending money) is it good idea to get small pebbles to mix in the soil?? Plants have been here for thousand of years and nature has pebbles not so much perlite and vermiculite... second question.. In todays world pots go from no hole at all to too many holes and while no holes is a risk for over watering is it Ok if the plant just touches the water for a few seconds in its path out of those too many holes?
I’ve been searching for a solution like this for 2 weeks. Trying to amend this happy frog. It starts off great. But, it’s easy to choke out the plants once you get off the watering schedule
I put lots of lava rocks n charcoal below the pot.On top of it the soil is mix with pumice, perlite, leca n burnt rice husk. Is it right n good for drainage. My vermiculite is light n shinny. Is it a fertiliser n should not add much into the soil. Pls advise. Thank you.

Do you have any tips on importing plants and perhaps some vendors you feel comfortable recommending? We are so starved for tropicals in America. Either the prices are astronomical or the desired plant isn’t popular so the only way to acquire it is to import. For instance, I would kill for a scindapsus truebii dark form but cannot locate one in America for love or money. Thanks for such quality content.

Please help. I mixed 50% miricle grow and 50% perlite but after 5 days after watering I sqeeze the mixture and a lot of water came out. Is this normal?
Is Leca the same as those clay balls used for hydroponics? I used them mixed with soil and i did not have good results. Compressed with and between soil they are heavy making for the roots harder to pass and grow.
what's worse is that when you have a lot of organic matter, the properties of the potting medium changes over time. organic matter tends to become oversaturated or alternately water repelling and hard to wet, and high volume of organic matter tends to also pack down. this is why it's so difficult to make appropriate potting medium that is right for the plant, and why many potting medium trial videos are inadequate, as they can hardly make reproducible results that work for everyone and in long term. one thing that is for sure about potting medium, do not accidentally or purposely create layers of different mixes on bottom or top, as this only makes for perched water zones. the only exception is that you can have a completely free draining inorganic decorative thin layer on top, that keeps potting media in place, e.g. 2-8mm pumice or similar gravel or larger rocks, if desired.
I just repotted my Marble Queen Pothos but I now realize that it does not have properly draining mix. Should I take it through the trauma of yet another repotting??
Malaysian here. I use a generous helping of rice husk in place of perlites for my water averse plants and it works great. For the really fussy ones, I add extra pumice (coarse) or red lava rocks
@@khomalaramal6465 thank you. But i wonder why my potting media (compost + carbonized rice hull or CRH) always kill my sanseverias (but not the aglaonemas). I always get root rot with media containing CRH eventhough I make sure that I water sparingly. What could be the problem? Thanks!

I need help 😭 i repotted my 6ft tall fiddle leaf fig that was purchased from Costco. I noticed half the soil would dry out but the other half was always reading "wet" on the moisture meter. Some of the leaves began to show root rot spots too so I repotted it 2 days ago & well its soo depressed. All the leaves are drooping & some are changing to a light, faded green color 💔💔💔💔💔 what do i do??

Is coco to be treated the same way as soil? Some people say you really do not need to add perlite to coco. Then how do you water plants in rockwool?

Is the 20-30% substrate by volume or weight? Perlite is very light, so I assume by volume?

@@mlourdzbdv4796 they do hold on to water so when I use them, I don't use them in tandem with other water holding materials like peat or soil.

I'm sure its in shock, I had to disturb the roots to remove all the soil 💔 but is there hope? Or am I going to lose her?
How did it turn out? I am experiencing the same with my new Pothos right now. Really worried. Did yours survive?
Simple solution will be to give a good shake to the pot for additional water to drain out.
