- The Benchmade Freek has many of the qualities I want to see in a hard-use folder for outdoor adventures or EDC. It has an efficient high flat grind, a versatile drop point shape, hard and tough M4 steel, sculpted G10 handle scales and of course Benchmade's familiar Axis lock. And yet, for some reason I don't feel enthusiastic about it. I have a few genuine gripes, including a pocket clip that creates a hot spot in my palm, partial (rather than full) steel liners, and a handle that is not as grippy as it looks. Or maybe I just can't help comparing it to similar designs that I like better.

Thank you for saying on the outside what alot of us are feeling on the inside.
I never carried mine for a moment, without first switching out it's clip, with a Benchmade deep-carry version. Then I swapped the thumb-stud for a red one from Benchmade. After that. It's one of the greatest G10 knives ever made, in my opinion.
Maybe that will help you fall in love with it?

When they first came out, is when I got mine, and they were selling for $192 then.
No full liners kind of killed it for me on the freek. They should have gone with skeletonized if trying to keep the weight down rather than none at all
Recently acquired one if these via trade, It's a nice knife with quality materials! Obviously it's very similar to Houge Ritter and has Benchmade "tax" added to cost. I recommend the Ritter when someone asks , It's a better value and helps Knife Rights cause. Thanks for sharing
Imo, Benchmade’s entire catalog is underwhelming, and disappointing.
I lost interest in the “Super” Freek once I noticed that it has a friggin cartridge liner. Imo, that’s a dealbreaker for a knife of this size, at least for ~$225+, (BM just raised their prices AGAIN). 😒
I’d absolutely buy a Spyderco GB2 instead… if I wanted another large(ish) M4 folder, (I already have two M4Carta Shamen).
$280 on their site as of yesterday.
