48:50 A clarification for new players: The city does heal a little every turn, but ONLY if it has a "supply line," which means there is at least one hex adjacent to the city center that is not in any enemy's zone of control. Units exert a zone of control into adjacent hexes, but not across rivers. On the turn previous to this one, Quill moved his archer unit off of the enemy campus tile, and both of his other units adjacent to the campus (the cavalry and the other archer) are across a river. So the campus tile became a supply line as soon as he moved off of it, and the city got to heal at the beginning of the turn. You'll notice that on the previous turn, the city did not heal, because Quill's archer was occupying the campus tile, and the city had no supply line because all the other tiles adjacent to it are in a zone of control of Quill's other military units. So, in general, if you can surround a city, you can cut off its ability to heal on its turn.

@@pikster2155 I think you need to build torist spots and attractions, like wonders I think can attract. But I really don't know so search it up on the wiki.
A couple points I figured out playing an economy focused playthrough... 1. Look for places where two rivers meet, that way your commercial hubs get bonuses from EACH river. If you can find this near the coast as well, you could stack a harbor adjacency bonus on top which will make you even richer. 2. When you start making a ton of money, the cost of levying a city state's military can be fairly trivial, and 30 turns winds up being plenty of time for a smaller war. You can also UPGRADE the city state's military units if you move them into your borders, which makes them not only more useful during the war, but also after the war when you return control to the city state. You also don't have to pay the upkeep, and your pet city-state may now have a superior military to other civs! 3. Having too many trade routes can cause CTD :( I think the way trade routes are handled could be optimized. I'd like to see an option of making trade routes continue until you say otherwise, and also a way to minimize the visual clutter. Maybe when renewing an internal trade route, you can have the option to make the trade unit invisible?

Just don’t declare any wars yourself and let the others declare war as you won’t lose any reputation. Don’t try to compete with very big colonies just focus on one thing, navy, infantry etc. Try to create as many alliances as possible as they will help you. Trading with city states is useful and follow what is recommended. It’s probably best

4:47 you don't have to control every capital in the game, only the STARTING capital for each player. For example, if Egypt conquered two other nation's capitals you would only need to take theirs plus those two Egyptian cities - not the conquered nation's "new" capital if they're still in the game.
Thanks for a tutorial that has stayed interesting & enjoyable. Your enthusiasm comes through, and that's always good for the morale of the troops, citizens, religious leaders, despots, and this player!
hey quill tks for the beginner guide for experience and upgrading units; consider that you don't get any experience while he is waiting to upgrade meaning in this video you killed i think 3 units and got no xp from them on that archer that had a pending upgrade. the move might be valid if the situation calls for it say you need to defend yourself and xp be damned but don't hold off on it too long.
You did a really thorough job of explaining this. But as someone who was looking into getting the game, this seems be very over-whelming. Just so many things to do and consider. I'm sure if I would really like that. I started playing these games with Xbox 360 game many years ago and loved it. Finally dawned on me to see if there were updated games. Just to note, he made a blunder by not promoting units ASAP. Units with a pending promoting don't gain experience. His archers were missing out on a ton of experience killing units with a pending promotion. If you're in a sticky situation, you can always use one of your units with a pending promotion to hurt an enemy and finish them with a unit with no pending promotion. In that scenario, you're at least getting a majority of the experience.
