  • Lego is launching their Dungeons & Dragons set on April 1st and we now have photos of the fantasy castle set in all its glory. It's colorful, it includes a dragon, and it comes in at a whopping $360. How does that compare to other Lego Ideas sets, and what does the designer say about the changes made to the original green dragon and the red roof?
Mark Stafford is the primary Lego designer on this set and offered some thoughts in a Reddit thread discussing why some decisions were made. I cover many of those in the sneak peak, but the full comments can be found here:

This is my first set “reveal” video so let me know if it’s a flop and how I can make future videos better lol

I think it actually looks really good! I personally get a lot of Game of Thrones vibes from the dragon. I like the build and especially the figures as a castle fan. I was thinking of waiting a bit till the next 2x VIP week and then getting it alongside the Medieval Town Square. Lot of money but I'm willing to spend it if it's as good as it looks.

As a castle fan with no experience with D&D, I think the set looks fantastic. I actually like it more than the original fan submission. This is definitely going on my want list, but It would need to go one sale or Lego would have to come out with an amazing GWP that I just couldn’t refuse before I break down and buy it.

There actually is a very cool looking mimic chest GWP that will likely be gone day one, for anyone who has $360 to spare.

As a DnD player, this looks AMAZING. No, though, you wouldn't be able to use that in a campaign as a setting. Might be able to use it as a setpiece, but not enough space to move around in and use the DnD mechanics. But MAN, I want this! "Lizard person" is a Dragonborn, by the way.

Thanks for the lesson, and for the insight! Lego is planning to stream a game on twitch April 9 and I’m really curious to see how that goes and how exactly they include this set in their campaign.
