It is soon ready, Than I will show it a little closer! Maybe it will work out that I can compare its sound with the one I made the copy of. Let´s see if the future owner has still some more patience to wait a little longer. all the best from Cremona ER
Thank you for posting this video it was very interesting so see a master violin maker at work. I also enjoyed the one on cooking varnish, you make it look simple.
Edgar your videos are amazing, thank you. Can you talk a bit about the affect of the varnish on tone. Ive just stripped a beginners laminate factory cello and the tone is now terrible, thin, nasaly, terrible..but its ok Im going to re-varnish it for fun.
Dig your work, Edgar. Thanks for the videos. Are you using the oil-based varnish (that you prepared with linseed) over a coat of shellac? If so, do you lightly sand the shellac to allow the oil to penetrate into the wood? Or, is this one of your spirit-based varnishes?
Can I mix a few drop of oil based paint with Shellac solution? I want to make Red-Brown. My shellac is light brown naturally, so I need a little red. Can I do this?
I've made my own oil varnish and am using it for the first time. I've left it for about a day to dry but it's still a bit sticky and tacky to the touch. Do I need to put it out in the sun for it to dry and harden properly? Or is my varnish not going to work?
Edgar, at 0:41 you mention that something you always do is a layer of shellac first. Is this the sealer that you use, rather than a linseed oil seal? Is this shellac dissolved in alcohol/spirit or something else? I'm not certain how I want to seal my violin before I varnish it.
this is probably alcohol saturated with shellac! (add until it doesn't dissolve anymore) ruclips.net/video/PEgTsj6ne1o/видео.html this video shows someone doing that but with mastic (another resin) instead.
What is your main reason for adding other colour's to each instrument? Is it because your clients request it? You appear to use what artist call natural camel hair brushes (squirrel tail). Is that the best choice? Would some other type leave a better finish? Its really not esoteric to me, just seeking the best results is why. Enjoy your all your videos. Thank you.
Please tell me what kind of red colors I can add to my shellac to varnish my violin. Please refer to many colors because I am living in a small city without access to various materials. By doing so, I may find one of them. And please say your idea about saffron. Thanks.
I find the colour of the first layer beautiful by itself-simple and natural ..
thanks
YES I am really exited for the Testore it will be great to watch its Journey

I love the colour it turned out! It looks light and warm like honey. Does it need more coats of varnish, and can it stay a light colour by the end?

Your the best. What do I is to clean the Brush.
Hello Edgar I am interested in purchasing some oil varnish thanks JP

Hello, Im curious how you did make your varnish? I'm on the same track but also have the problem with sticky varnish. Please tell me!
Do you ever use Propolis tincture and sunlight to darken and colour the raw wood surface?

What is the thing used at last to coat and protect the varnish?
what is that violin made of , theres no tell tale signs of flamed maple on the back or sides
the back and sides look well flamed to me....
How many layers when you painting the violin sir?

where we can buy varnish ?
Hi my friend, I made my amber violin varnish with ambar from Mexico, How many layers of varnish do you recommend so as not to affect the sound?
How much is one set of your paint sir?
Does the casein layer go inside AND outside before that layer of shellac? Or just inside?
I think Edgar said it was just inside.
Ciao dove compri i pigmenti?
Edgar, question, i prefere not to use a uv box for several reasons, but we don't have to much sun, is it possible to dry it behind glas(windows)?
How many varnish layers?
