It doesn't matter if tejas didn't match f-16 performance. This is an aircraft that we need in numbers. its a replacement for Mig-21s. All the delays that has happened and is happening is because we are trying to make Tejas into something it was not meant to be.
It is better actually . This comparison is clearly biased. He highlighted weight and ferry range only. Mk2 has 13 hardpoint for falcon 9, better aesa radar, less radar signature, better avionics, comparable or more combat range.

Being homegrown can be a huge advantage when it comes to parts, supplies and expertise for maintenance.

very first of all we all can see tejas mk 2 would have combat range of 2500 km which is good enough for iaf, where as f16 had 4500 km range. and one more thing is that situation and needs of usaf are different then indian. even usaf is also backed by good enough budget, where as not only iaf even all three branches of indian armed forces are still lacking in good budget. coz usa's economic conditions are stable and capable enough where as indian economy is still growing so iaf is ballencing thing with low budget which is very good. nd second thing is that usa had already well developed and experienced technology and self reliable materials to built world class fighter aircraft. where as now we had achieved the technology but still we are depending on foreign markets to collect items and then use it on our technology. so in my views no doubt in technological demostration and qualities tejas mk2 is sounding more advance then f16 but we need to remember one thing f16 is combat proven aircraft with more then 20 years of experience nd now lockhead martin is also apply technologies developed for f35 in f16 in new updates as well.which could more lethal then current updates. where as tejas mk2 is still underdevelopment and not flied yet. but we had trust on our industries. and hoping best for tejas mk2 but the fact is that still tejas mk2 should have to prove alot of thing before get compared with combat proved nd reliable f16. i hope things are clear above i said.

F-16 is well set in the world market, because it was designed to easily incorporate future technologies, the reason F-16 Block 70/72 has feature of F-22 and F-35. Unless Tejas is built in such a way it won't be able to catch world market.
It's a great feet already for Tejas MK2 to be compared to something as lethal as "viper", while Tejas MK2 might fare slightly less than the latest F16, however it would still be a lethal machine better than Mirage 2000s that India has and can easily be a staple as far as single engine fighter aircraft fleet of IAF. We can't really boast of better fighter aircraft technology unless we would make our own jet engines. While ours is no less of an achievement but we cannot ridicule the world leader in F16 as far as single engine fighter aircraft is concerned.
Tejas mk1 beats Mirage2000 Tejas mk1A beats or atleast matches Su-30MKI and easily beats F-16C/D variants that Pakistan operates. Tejas mk2 will have to beat the latest F-16. There's no option.
I want Tejas MK2 production to be expedited as far as practicable, with simultaneous developement of of our indigenous ejection seat and more powerfull own engines( 110 KN).

I'm surprised the Tejas has such low payload (by weight) when its wingplan has such a big advantage in surface area which should translate to lift. That said, despite a number of features like speed, range and attitude that make the Tejas better than the older design F-16, I'd prefer the Falcon by a long shot for its track record of reliability to accomplish the mission with whatever munitions load is best suited. Nothing was mentioned in fact on the Tejas estimated cost per flight hour, but I'm going to guess the F-16 is probably one of the cheapest planes to fly that exists due to how long systems have been worked out and optimized through experience and being a single engine fighter. Maybe the Tejas can make that altitude feature work in the Himalaysa but if the F-16 isn't bothered by high altitude missions, maybe the Tejas doesn't have an edge here, too.
At a given engine thrust, a larger wing area degrades acceleration i.e. energy recovery after a hard instantaneous turn. I am from Pakistan and impressed by the INDIAN TEJAS very fast and good manuverable... every machine has a purpose that's why it's designed for it... JF17 also made not for only to compete TEJAS could serve many purpose..."its not machine that fight it's the person behind it who fight"... but after all if you compare the both IAF and PAF history... PAF proved to be the best in descipline, excellence and war air superiority ... not because of the SIZE but quality of FIGHTER PILOTS the brains behind the machines...
@AJAY RANA you can't just add a bigger engine! the airframe and all other components must be able to mesh with it and handle it. When you change an engine, you might have to redesign the airframe... that will make it a different aircraft. it is like trying to put a truck engine into a car to make it more powerful... If MK-2 was designed to handle a 125KN engine, then it is a possibility.

When you have a homegrown option, there's one less leverage point that US can blackmail India with. One less weak link, one less thing to worry. If US says "you'll need a lot more tejas to have same effectiveness as one fleet of f16" we can simply say... So?
F16 1st flight was in 1974. Tejas mk 2 first flight hasn't even happened yet. If a modern variant of the F16 is better than a yet to be produced plane then you should go back to the drawing board and make a better plane.
Okay chinese
the f 16 kept getting upgrades over time though. like mig 21 which is now as powerful as a 4th gen fighter even though it is a 3rd gen fighter. all because of the upgrades. the defence sector doesn't work with "civilian" ideas
@@bigbrawler7078 if the foundation is good, the plane can last as you upgrade the equipment. However the Tejas needed an upgrade as soon as it was built. And a further update , mk2, to allow it to complete with todays plane. Note today not future as it is too bog standard.
@@bigbrawler7078 you mean the flying coffin ? India's pride and joy ? It killed another couple of Indian pilots.
@@lesliecheung1478 you came back over here just to reply to this? Lmao. Actually, I'll say it's not the pride and joy but rather a desperate need. The previous governments were so fucking corrupt that all they did was do money laundering and never give shit to defence sectors. The current government is the first one to actually buy modern weapons that can keep up with times. So yeah we had to keep them around to make sure we had enough squadrons. But i do admit that yes we lacked weapons and that's why mig 21s stayed around. It's a matter of shame and not pride to India. And that is why they are developed Tejas, bought rafale, developing amca and Tejas mk2.. there are plans to buy super hornet too along with deals to make or buy more 5th gen+ fighter air crafts. You're not wrong and i won't put on a fake toxic patriotic stand. I know my country has flaws and i also know that is trying to get over them. Sending peace and love.
Tejas mk-2 is not yet made but f-16 had made for 43 yrs in service, So how can be compared ? Is this a criteria for comparisons ? Tejas mk-2 is not manufactured and achieved any thing for success or failure also takeoff yet, how did you compared ? There may be default and weakness in Tejas mk-2 but without test or examination, how did you proved it as cent 100% configured ?
Thank you.
Tejas made of 60 % composite material and being smaller has smaller RCS and MK2 will be more powerful as well
Composite materials acts in no way in reducing rcs. Radiation bounce back from any flat solid material regardless its metal or composite only geometry and ram coatings aids in stealth

I think the pilot skills matter more because 4 f16 jets were shot down by Indian wing commander Abhinandan in kargil war using a old mig-21
To all those who say that Tejas Mk2 is yet to fly: Please understand that in a way, Tejas Mk2 has already been flying for over two decades, and has already been 60-65% tested. This is because it is an improved version of Tejas Mk1, which has been exhaustively tested, and whose behaviour is now well-established. The aerodynamics, stability, performance, and capability of the Mk2 in terms of performing various missions it will be used for, will not be very different from that of Mk1 - only slightly better.
For India, it is going to be a god-send, and unquestionably far superior to a F16 Block 70/72 designed several decades ago, and given several makeovers to make it appear modern!
Please ! there is no comparison between A Plane paper and another mostly used for decades !! Better please compare contemporary ones!!
Why not compare the mythical MK2 with the Spitfire or maybe the Sopwith Camel!?!
The F16 is a design from 1970 and the yet to be born Tejas MK2 may fly in 2025.
That's 55 years apart!
There was only a 40 year difference between the Spitfire and the F16.

Its a mixture of Saab Gripen and Mirage 2000
very first of all we all can see tejas mk 2 would have combat range of 2500 km which is good enough for iaf, where as f16 had 4500 km range. and one more thing is that situation and needs of usaf are different then indian. even usaf is also backed by good enough budget, where as not only iaf even all three branches of indian armed forces are still lacking in good budget. coz usa's economic conditions are stable and capable enough where as indian economy is still growing so iaf is ballencing thing with low budget which is very good. nd second thing is that usa had already well developed and experienced technology and self reliable materials to built world class fighter aircraft. where as now we had achieved the technology but still we are depending on foreign markets to collect items and then use it on our technology. so in my views no doubt in technological demostration and qualities tejas mk2 is sounding more advance then f16 but we need to remember one thing f16 is combat proven aircraft with more then 20 years of experience nd now lockhead martin is also apply technologies developed for f35 in f16 in new updates as well.which could more lethal then current updates. where as tejas mk2 is still underdevelopment and not flied yet. but we had trust on our industries. and hoping best for tejas mk2 but the fact is that still tejas mk2 should have to prove alot of thing before get compared with combat proved nd reliable f16. i hope things are clear above i said.
Please tell me in which war USA used F16s? As I understand it is US Navy who used their carrier based fighters for all wars along with NATO aircrafts. Can you explain me please?

Tejas mk1 beats Mirage2000

You mean speed which is exactly the same, altitude which is exactly the same and capacity that favors the F-16 oh and range which again favors the F-16, oh and radar and electronics which again favors the F-16. The price is more or less the same as well. The given figures are not accurate in the video

It is not better than F-16! The most modern F-16 Block 70/72 has more powerful engine, vaastly superior radar and it is faster. It is just a superior jet
F-16 is designed for vortex lift generation at a slight angle of attack with low drag. F-16XL's larger wing has higher drag at an angle of attack and degraded acceleration.
Fighter jets are designed around the engine's thrust target.

F-16C Block 52 has 29,560 lbf (131.5 kN) PW engine.
F-16E Block 60 has 32,500 lbf (145 kN) GE engine.
For a sustained turn rate, Gripen C was beaten by SU-27SK despite Gripen's low wing loading. The wing itself has lift drag factors. For the given wing size, Gripen C is underpowered. Gripen C's lower RCS is an advantage over SU-27SK.
A slight angle of attack with high drag due to a larger wing will gimp vortex lift generation. For 4th gen designs, there are many factors in aircraft design, not just basic wing loading i.e. it's easy to attach a large wing e.g. F-16XL, F-35C.

If MK-2 was designed to handle a 125KN engine, then it is a possibility.
