- A sold out crowd gathered for an intimate evening with Mika at (le) poisson rouge in New York City on April 9, 2013. When Mika's surprise guest, Kristin Chenoweth, joined him on stage for "Popular Song" the crowd went wild! Stephen Schwartz wrote additional lyrics to his song "Popular" from the megahit Broadway musical, WICKED. Kristin Chenoweth was in the original cast.
You can tell this is New York because the crowd is going absolutely batshit crazy seeing Kristin Chenoweth. I would have went crazy as well.
I didn't know this video existed and now that I've watched it I am just filled with emotions over how epic and beautiful them singing this is :D

The original version of popular song (not popular from wicked), was with Priscilla Renea, but was later remixed with Ariana Grande's vocals. I actually like the one with Priscilla Renea better than the one with Ariana Grande, but i love the wicked version the most of them all

I just listened to the pop radio version and Ariana Grande has no power in her voice and needed lessons on how to enunciate. Her expression in the video was laughably blank as well.
Christine didn't memorize the song. Hmmm...not so cool.
She probably had little rehearsal time for this performance. Plus, those hundreds of performances she gave as Glinda in Wicked probably etched the original Broadway lyrics in her memory that she needed to check back to the new lyrics because the melody could have possibly automatically prompted her her to sing the old lyrics without thinking.
when I try to sing this song I often find myself singing the original. additionally this was probably a last minute one off thing between bookings. you have no idea what stars schedules are like you pop from one interview to the next, then a store opening and an another interview.
