God-awful singing I heard on the Rent “Live” special tonight made me miss this so bad. I wish they would always do one live recording of the original broadway cast, for every show, for those of us that aren’t able to get out to see them, and for everyone who loves musicals and would like to re-watch them from the comfort of their homes. Rent was so magical and neither the movie version nor the live version tonight let it shine as bright as it should.
Rachel you’re definitely in the vast majority to say the movie wasn’t all that great. The movie was so good it had elements that the broadway version didn’t

jonathan casted her exactly for her voice. she's the PERFECT mimi. she embodies her personality and energy so well and has a similar background to mimi. the more invested in rent you become the more you realise daphne is amazing and her voice is so unique and she's very talented (:
Yeah, you're not alone. I don't hate it, but there are a thousand better singers who have played the part just as well. Her voice suits the part, and she's a great actress, but I just don't like her voice much.

The actors said that several of them were crying too hard to sing some of the songs properly when they did the first performance after Jonathan died.

I actually enjoyed the movie. Definitely better than the fox live but I agree nothing will ever beat the original cast and production.
