Campingaz Or Refillable Underslung LPG - GASIT Upgrade VW T5 Camper

- Was the decision to upgrade our campervan gas setup from Campingaz to a refillable GasIt system a good one? It's not a cheap upgrade, but has it been worthwhile?

I must say your presentation and filming really is the best and I can honestly say no channel comes close . On to gas, maybe worth mentioning the refillable bottle is cheaper but bit of a pain as it needs its own cupboard. Great addition and will pay for itself in no time. Love the upgrades look forward to seeing the next one .
Thank you very much :) always appreciate the feedback, having a tough time finding the inspiration to get the videos filmed & edited, so great to hear you enjoyed it. Yeah, won't be long until it's earned its keep :P
We went with a standard flogas gold gas bottle on Walt. Not away as much as you guys, but 3 years on one bottle. Just replaced it at 30 quid. Worst case I can run the stove off most bottles as a have a small bag of various adaptors picked up that will fit our piping with some cajoling
3 years isn't too bad at all, haha :D £30 ain't too bad either! Would rather not have spent so much on our new setup, but needs must I suppose. Hopefully we get some good use out of it :D Hope you're all doing well
This is definitely something I want to do to my van. Btw love how you keyed the text at the top. You’re getting good at this Cal!
A worthwile upgrade, but a bit of a sting when it came to paying the bill! Haha, thanks. Although I realised I messed up a few frames due to Rufus' lead swinging, doh! I'll nail it next time ;D
Great cooking set up you guys! Putting me and my jetboil to shame! Keep up the good work.👍
Haha, cheers Terry! Taken us a while, but we're pretty happy with it now 😁
I went for underslung in my T5 when I converted it. Was the most expensive bit of the build but well worth it. I also have a propex heater and can crank that up as often as I like! So cheap to fill up, no worries about LPG leaking in the van, no gas locker, less holes in the van and lots more space!
Wish we'd done it initially, but we were being lazy and cheap :P a very worthwhile upgrade, definitely be recommending it going forward
Excellent video…
Didn’t think you could improve on your editing skills??
But it seems you have.
Superb production
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you very much! Must admit, we're struggling for inspiration to get these videos completed. So it's good to hear that you liked it :D Hope you're doing well
Great video and glad to see you enjoying the van. Enjoy your trip to Scotland and hurry up with the video 😜
He has been worded! 🤣🏴🤣👍 thanks for watching …. and gentle encouragement!
Lovely to see you all, that quesadilla looked so good, and Rufus's face when you were grating cheese😂 Wishing you all a fantastic week ahead and best wishes on your Scotland trip. Take care guys ❤️
Thanks cakey 😊 we've all just literally jumped in the van and started the journey north! Gonna be a long drive today. Haha, yeah Rufus loves a bit of cheese 🧀 he's very food orientated
@@FloraTheNoviceExplorers Aw I'm so excited for you all, Scotland is my all time favourite place. Enjoy❤️
As you have an external gas socket I cannot recommend enough enough. Buy a cadac and with your cooking skills invest in a paella pan. I promise you won’t be disappointed. Great video as usual 👏🏻
Thanks Jo, will definitely have a look :) we've heard good things
Ah great to see you guys again👍! And of course Rufus🐕🦺
Enjoy your trip to Scotland , thats on my bucket list! I await for your feedback , be safe ❤️xx
Thanks Dawn, we leave tomorrow. Really looking forward to some time in the van. Hopefully we'll film some of it and pop it up on RUclips when we can. Hope you're doing well
Great to see you again. Wise decision getting a professional gas fit. Can’t be too careful with that sort of thing. I have the same system but beware…the gauge is not very accurate. Been following since the start. Great to see how far you have come. I’m sure you’ll be travelling again soon….but this time with your hairy friend. Stay safe. Happy trails. X
We've literally just hit the road today, going to be spending a couple weeks around scotland 😁 yeah, we think it was a good choice. Bit of an upfront cost, but we know it'll be worth it in the end. Thanks for the heads up, will take the gauge as a rough guide rather than an accurate reading 😜 cheers!
Can’t wait for this next travel series. 😉👍 and watch Rufus become a world traveler. Haha.
❤️❤️He doesn’t even know it himself yet 🐾🐾🤣
Beautifully filmed as always. Initially I thought it was a moody Norwegian drama because it was shot so well.
Probably a stupid question but does the LPG smell any different and does it create as much water vapour as Camping gas?
Also is the tank underneath double skinned like a fuel tank, or does the rubber coating act as a second skin?
A no nonsense honest video as ever - thank you 😃
Haha, cheers Guy! Did feel like we'd been transported considering we filmed this early September :P Can't say we've noticed any big differences, yet. As for the tank, I'd assume it was double-skinned, or similar. The yare built to be external, but I can't say I've read the spec sheet myself. The rubber paint is just to prevent the odd stone chipping and light damage, from what I understand... Hope you're doing well :D
Excellent upgrade. Good luck with filling abroad. You’ll find them ok; but manoeuvring the filler nozzle is an adventure 😉👍💙❤️
Must admit the first fill up in this country was twitchy bum time - bit nervous about doing it wrong! There are no instructions for filling up! 🤣🤣
as soon as we started to do more traveling we also fitted the Gas-It system, compared to the calor gas we did have, the system payed for itself in just over a year, so well worth it :)
Brilliant! Seems like a no-brainer then! We've been really happy with it so far, always a bit of anxiety travelling with campingaz and not knowing if you'll find any, or how much it'll cost!
@@FloraTheNoviceExplorers we did 5 weeks round Cornwall and then top end of Scotland over the summer, and even in the UK we had no problems finding filling places, and the price was just so much cheaper :)
Good to hear 😃
Nearly 3 mins before you actually get to the topic but once you do it's useful info, thanks
Perservered for years in UK & Europe with C/Gaz but the last big trip was a nightmare of running out, no refills in 400km and campstove shenanigans as a replacement. Never again. Can't afford the underslung arrangement but hopeful of finding a cheaper alternative. Lovely simple quesadilla recipe - I'll definitely be trying that!
Capmingaz certainly has its uses, I suppose it depends on your requirements. But yes, running out can be a nightmare! Definitely quite an investment going for the Gasit system, but we think it'll work well for us. Hope you're doing well 😊
Yea good to hear from you all enjoying those upgrades. I use a small paella burner and pan on my outdoor Gas bbq Point and you just need a push fit adapter and you can run any Lpg appliance off it. Going to try those jackfruit quesadillas Meg look yummy. happy travels to Scotland Poor teddy Ralph get made redundant from his glass jar rattling job.. Hope he enjoys his new life 😊
Haha, think Teddy Ralph's life in the van has changed forever. He's going to be under constant threat of ending up in Rufus' mouth from now on I think! The Jackfruit was interesting, a great substitute that worked perfectly. We've been recommended some external cooking options, we'll definitely have a look at what's available. Hope you're all doing well :D
@@FloraTheNoviceExplorers yes we are all good Thanks just looking at options for a trip around Kintyre 66 next year and island hopping
Yes You will have that song in your head all day:-)
Give me a shout when you come up. I'll be out in my van at the weekend so might be able to come meet up with you x
My van’s fitted for camping gaz which is fine for short travels but lpg does seem a no brainer for full timers and long distance travellers. Maybe one day … Safe travels to Scotland 🏴
Thank you, we leave tomorrow! Yeah, campingaz certainly has its uses, it worked well for us. But thought it was about time for an upgrade :D
wow-we cannot have those gas tanks here in australia,we have to have bottled and must be stored accessible only from outside and vented and sealed completely inside locker so no gas can enter living areas from bottle fittings
We use a wallas XC Duo - Combined Diesel Hob and Heater so no gas on board and no need for safety checks, it runs from the vans diesel tank, for me having used most systems in a van I would now alway go with a diesel appliance. The only problem with the diesel set up is the cost.
That’s interesting - we’ve never seen a diesel job in action! Keeps things simple when it is all fed from one tank - in the U.K. last month there was a diesel shortage (mainly through panic buying) that left the pumps empty that would worry me slightly!
What beautiful country
Look at an atlas... The UK is in Europe.
Europe isn't some other place. Europe is the name of the geographic continent that the UK is in.
Perfect
love your videos!
i have a question and its possible ivbe just missed this on a previous video, but is there a reason you havent gone for an opening window on the side door?
Thanks :) I think we were a bit paranoid about security. I think we just assumed a fixed window would be a bit more secure. But I don't know what we based that idea on, we're much more chilled now regarding security. Can't say we felt like it was a mistake going with a fixed window though. Cheers
Great video
Are there any restrictions with having an under slung gas tank with travel? Eg euro tunnel ?
Thanks Charles! Not that we're aware of. Last time we went on the tunnel they wanted to check we'd disconnected the xamlingaz bottle, that was it. But now we have the 12v switch we can flick on or off which is handy!
Gas in something we haven't got our heads around at the minute. So annoying. We are always looking for it!! We are going through countries every week or so and finding the stuff isn't easy!
Can be a nightmare! Are you using bottles?
@@FloraTheNoviceExplorers We just use the small desposable cannisters to get by. Not happy about doing it because of the waste but we are new to the "vanlife" and not sure what the best alternative is! 🤔
Yeah, it's tricky to know! We've finally got a refillable LPG system, a full tank would last us about 3 months full-time travel. Our old bottles were lasting about 3 weeks. If you can get a refillable system then I'd go for that personally, but depends on how much you use the gas and what your budget is!
@@FloraTheNoviceExplorers We use about 500/600g a week so not much but its the waste we don't like. Is it easy enough to refill moving through countries? Its something we need to look into for the new year. We will be on the road in Europe for 3 years so like you say. Its a long term investment. 👍
Refilling the LPG is pretty easy, you just need to buy a special adapter set as different countries require different connections. But a lot of garages will have an LPG hose. I think there are a couple of online maps that will highlight the areas where it's available. Definitely look into it if you're going for a BIG trip :)
Same one we’ve got:)
;) great bit of kit! Hope life back on the road is going well in the new-and-improved Mork :D
Hi Do you need some great lighting for your car to help you better driving, off-road. We're the pro auto lighting manufacturer for nearly 20 year and we're looking for sponsorship!
Is your van a LWB or SWB?
The van is a LWB :)
best thing we did was to go refillable LPG
Wish we'd done it sooner! A worthwhile upgrade 👍
There is an obvious joke about Cals gas to be made but I shall refrain
