Eusebius, in his Church History (~325 AD), said that James and Symeon were sons of Clopas, Joseph's brother, and were Jesus' cousins.

No Jewish man when dying would give their mother to someone else if he had a brother. This is why Jesus gave his mother to John. I. E. There was no younger brother of Jesus to take her in.

You forget that Jesus' brothers had rejected Jesus and His ministry until after His resurrection. They were not there at the cross. Just Mary was there and Jesus' cultural responsibility was to make sure His mother was taken care of because it seems that Mary's husband (Joseph) was no longer present. We don't know anything about Joseph after Jesus was 12 years old.

What’s does it mean in Matthew 1:25 when it says that Joseph did not know Mary until after she had gave birth to Jesus? Because doesn’t it use the word “know” in the same way Adam “knew” eve? Genuine question and forgive me if I’ve understood it wrong.

None of those translations say Joseph later had relations with Mary. You're adding that to the text. Early Christians understood the original language and culture - and they believed Mary remained a virgin.

      So you know ancient Greek?
      Matthew 1
25but knew [1097] her not until [2193] she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.
      2193. heós
      Strong's Lexicon
heós: until, till, as far as, up to
      Original Word: ἕως
      Part of Speech: Adverb
      Transliteration: heós
      Pronunciation: heh-os'
      Phonetic Spelling: (heh'-oce)
Definition: until, till, as far as, up to
Meaning: (a) conj: until, (b) prep: as far as, up to, as much as, until.
Word Origin: A primary particle of time or place
Corresponding Greek / Hebrew Entries: - H5704 (עַד, 'ad): Often translated as "until" or "as far as," similar in usage to "ἕως" in marking time or spatial limits.
      - H5703 (עַד, 'ad): Another Hebrew term for "forever" or "until," used in contexts of time duration.
Usage: The Greek word "ἕως" (heós) is primarily used as a conjunction or preposition to denote a point in time or space. It is often translated as "until" or "till" when referring to time, and "as far as" or "up to" when referring to space. In the New Testament, it frequently marks the end of a period or the extent of an action or event.
Cultural and Historical Background: In the context of the New Testament, "ἕως" is used to express temporal limits or boundaries, which was a common linguistic feature in Koine Greek. Understanding the cultural and historical context of timekeeping and spatial boundaries in the ancient world can provide deeper insight into the use of "ἕως." The concept of time was often linked to significant events, religious observances, and agricultural cycles, which influenced how periods were marked and understood.
      1097. ginóskó
      Strong's Lexicon
ginóskó: To know, to come to know, to recognize, to perceive
      Original Word: γινώσκω
      Part of Speech: Verb
      Transliteration: ginóskó
      Pronunciation: ghin-oce'-ko
      Phonetic Spelling: (ghin-oce'-ko)
Definition: To know, to come to know, to recognize, to perceive
Meaning: I am taking in knowledge, come to know, learn; aor: I ascertained, realized.
      Word Origin: A primary verb
Corresponding Greek / Hebrew Entries: - H3045 - יָדַע (yada): To know, to perceive, to understand. This Hebrew verb shares a similar range of meanings with "ginóskó," emphasizing relational and experiential knowledge.
Usage: The Greek verb "ginóskó" primarily means "to know" or "to come to know." It implies a knowledge that is gained through experience or personal relationship. In the New Testament, it often denotes an intimate or relational knowledge, as opposed to mere intellectual understanding. This verb is used to describe both human and divine knowledge, including the knowledge of God, self-awareness, and understanding of others.
Cultural and Historical Background: In the Greco-Roman world, knowledge was highly valued, often associated with philosophical inquiry and understanding of the divine. The Hebrew concept of knowledge, which influences the New Testament usage, emphasizes relational and experiential knowledge. In the biblical context, "ginóskó" often reflects a deep, personal relationship, such as the knowledge between God and His people or between individuals in a covenant relationship.
      HELPS Word-studies
1097 ginṓskō - properly, to know, especially through personal experience (first-hand acquaintance). 1097 /ginṓskō ("experientially know") is used for example in Lk 1:34, "And Mary [a virgin] said to the angel, 'How will this be since I do not know (1097 /ginṓskō = sexual intimacy) a man?"

    Mt. 13:55, Mk. 6:3
Who are these brothers? (Observations in parentheses)
James (there are two), Joses, Simon (the Zealot or Canaanite) and Judas (Thaddaeus). And John (Apostle), who received Mary under the cross as her son. In total six brothers.
    *James (1) and Joses:*
-John 19:25 His mother, and his mother's sister (relative), Mary the wife of Cleophas (Mt.27:56), and Mary Magdalene were standing next to the cross of Jesus.
-Mt.27:56 among whom were Mary Magdalene, Mary (of Cleophas, relative of the Virgin Mary-Jn.19:25) *THE MOTHER OF JAMES AND JOSES,* and the mother of the sons of Zebedee. (Mk. 15:40, 47).
    *James (2) and John*
-Matthew 20:20 Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came to him with her sons.
-Mark 3:17 to James (2) *SON* of Zebedee, and to John (Apostle) brother of James (2)
-Mark 10:35 Then James and John, *SONS OF Zebedee.*
    *Simon*
-Mark 3:18 to Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James (1) son of Alphaeus (Cleophas), Thaddeus (Judas), Simon *THE CANAANITE* (neither a Nazarene nor a Galilean like Jesus)
    *Judas*
-Jude 1:1 Judas, SERVANT (not brother) of Jesus Christ, and *brother of James* (1, of Cleophas).
    More passages to reflect on?
Mt. 1:16 And Jacob begat Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, called the Christ. (If we read from verse 1, we see that when someone fathers more children, he tells us so. As for Joseph, HE DID NOT BEGET ANYONE, he just says that he was a husband and that's it.)
Mt. 2:11 And upon entering the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary (we are clear that there are still no “little brothers”).
13 After they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, Arise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt.
16 Herod then, when he saw himself deceived by the wise men, became very angry, and ordered the killing of all the children under TWO YEARS OLD that were in Bethlehem and in all its surroundings, according to the time that he had inquired of the wise men. (So, like Herod, we INQUIRE that Jesus was at most two years old. If Jesus was already two years old, there could at least already be a “little brother”, but Joseph only took Mary and Jesus to Egypt, he does not mention to someone else.)
19 But after Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in Egypt in a dream, 20 saying, "Get up, take the child and his mother, and go to the land of Israel, because those who sought the death of the child are dead." . (Here it does not say how old Jesus was when he returned, but there is data from when Herod died. It is estimated that Jesus would be between 4 and 5 years old, but still no “little brother(s)” appears in the scripture, something that cannot be not mentioned, because if Matthew mentions those “brothers”, why not before he is telling about this journey?)
Luke 2:41-52. Here, Jesus, is lost at 12 years old. We know that his parents are looking for him and when they find him they return home. It is mentioned in verse 44 that they were looking for him “among relatives and acquaintances,” but the existence of brothers is never mentioned.
Mt. 13:55, Is this not the SON (singular) of the carpenter?
Mc. 6:3 “Is not this the carpenter, SON of Mary?” It does not say “one of the sons.” He is only one.
So yes, they are brothers (not blood brothers) of Jesus, but not children of Mary.
1 Cor. 15:6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at once. (Jesus did have more brothers, more than five hundred!! But NOT CHILDREN OF MARY).

Ezek. 44:2 - Ezekiel prophesies that no man shall pass through the gate by which the Lord entered the world. This is a prophecy of Mary’s perpetual virginity. Mary remained a virgin before, during and after the birth of Jesus.
Mark 6:3 - Jesus was always referred to as “the” son of Mary, not “a” son of Mary. Also “brothers” could have theoretically been Joseph’s children from a former marriage that was dissolved by death. However, it is most likely, perhaps most certainly, that Joseph was a virgin, just as were Jesus and Mary. As such, they embodied the true Holy Family, fully consecrated to God.

Jesus gave her a diwciple to replace Himself as her son. He did this DESPITE THE FACT that He knew that He would return to life in 3 days and also never die again.

They are your cousins too, if it wasn’t for the Protestants removing the book of Tobit, his father sent his son to the home of his cousin and a member of the tribe from whom he belonged.
Tobit was to take for his wife a (cousin) where in most it says a sister he should marry.

those "brothers" are identified in the Bible as the sons of another Mary, wife of Clopas.
    Matthew 27
55 There were also many women there, looking on from afar, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to him; 56 among whom were Mary Mag′dalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zeb′edee.
(the james and joseph mentioned in chapter 13)
    Mark 15
40 There were also women looking on from afar, among whom were Mary Mag′dalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger[f] and of Joses, and Salo′me, 41 who, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and ministered to him
    John 19
25 So the soldiers did this. But standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing near, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” 27 Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home. (this also proves that the words “brother” and “sister” don’t necessarily mean blood relations, because the Blessed Mother was an only child)

@ In this situation there may not have been a big wedding, since it was quick and they were poor. But the following passages are clear that they were legally married:
“Then Joseph also ascended from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, in order to be declared, with Mary his espoused wife, who was with child.”
      ‭‭Luke‬ ‭2‬:‭4‬-‭5‬ ‭CPDV‬‬
Joseph had to declare himself of royal lineage because the Caesar required everyone who was, to do so. He espoused Mary before they went to Bethlehem and became formally legal.
“When Joseph awoke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took her as his wife,”
      ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭1‬:‭24‬ ‭NRSV-CI‬‬

This is explicitly stated in Matthew 1:25, which says, “But he did not consummate the marriage until she had given birth to a son. And he named him Jesus.” The term “consummate the marriage” refers to the first sexual intercourse between a married couple.
In the context of Jewish customs at the time, Mary and Joseph were considered married even before the marriage was consummated. Silly Sam. Ignoring God's Word and accusing the Holy Spirit of misleading him to his false conclusions. You win an argument by making up facts that don't exist anywhere? Joseph had children from a previous marriage? Sorry, the Holy Spirit didn't lead you to lies. And no, I don't trust spurious works that deny the Scriptures.
And why didn't Sam discuss the Biblical evidence proving that Mary and Joseph consummated their marriage? "Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: And knew her not till (UNTIL) she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS." Matthew 1:24-25
Yes "till" means exactly that in the original Greek. heōs - till, until, a conjunction, preposition and adverb of continuance, until (of time and place):-even (until, unto), (as) far (as), how long
Sorry, Sam, your wayward church fathers don't refute God's Word, which is inspired and breathed by HIM, not the harlot Roman Catholic church. Joseph had a beautiful wife, and God allowed them to enjoy each other in every way, including as man and wife, all the days their life together.
If you can read anything into the text, it's that. A husband leaves his mother and father and becomes ONE flesh with his wife. Joseph and Mary became ONE flesh in accordance with God's design.

They can not stand the idea that Mary had a normal husband and wife relation after Jesus birth.

Seems to me that WHAT MAN would even DARE defile such a virtuous woman? I think that EVEN IF HE COULD ( which he COULD have done as he was her legal husband) , Joseph would not dare to be intimate with Mary just out of PURE RESPECT. Besides, sometimes there was a BIG price to pay for virgins that defiled themselves or were defiled. Roman Vestal virgins WERE BURRIED ALIVE if found to be defiled and their sexual partner was publicly beaten to death.
It was common in those times (and even today) for young girls to be separated/dedicated to remain virgins throughout all or part of their life. Virginity was regarded as the highest state, widowhood was second, wifehood, last. As such, I see NO LOGICAL REASON AT ALL for Joseph to do something like that, especially when an angel was sent to him to warn him that Mary was to have a CHILD and realizing it was not his, but of God.

The brothers would have Sister in laws to take care of their lost wives, sisters children.

Wait. The ark of the covenant held the Holy Spirit spirit. If you read the Old testament or the tanakh, you will see how a physical ark was built to house God so that he can dwell with them and he dwelled with them as Spirit. Which means the Holy Spirit dwelled amongst the people. When Jesus Christ went to heaven, he said that he would send the spirit down to us. So that though the word, and the law, will now live in. The holy spirit is not inside of Mary right now. The entity that existed within the ark and follow the people of Israel. It's not within Mary. In fact, while Jesus was walking along the streets and speaking to the people, it often stayed at that. The Holy Spirit was with him. When he was baptized. The Holy Spirit came down and settled and abided on him and remained in him. And then when he died, the spirit he gave to us. Read Corinthians, Romans, Ephesians. Which obviously means the spirit went from the ark, to Jesus Christ, to us. To all of humanity. I am absolutely sure that when Jesus ascended to his father in heaven and sent the Holy Spirit to all those who believe in him, Mary while she was alive. Alive most certainly received the Holy Spirit as well. But she is not the ark of the covenant. She does not encase the Holy Spirit alone. The third person of God does not only reside in Mary. The third person of the Trinity, the one God, lives in every Christian. That's why we grieve that Holy Spirit. Every time we do something that we should not do. He lives in us and we are considered literally the body of Christ. I could go on and on. Prove me wrong and show me the line in scripture where it says Mary is now the ark of the covenant and anyone who touches her will die

@@joevargas6694 Im so glad you asked! Mary was a stumbling block for me in my protestant mindset too. I was totally missing the typology in scripture concerning Mary. Basics: The original Ark contained the following: The word of God to His people written on tablets, The Manna (miracle bread from heaven), and the staff of Aaron)
Compare to what was In Mary's womb: The Word of God made flesh, The Living Bread which came down from heaven (John 6), and the the one who would rule with a staff of iron (Psalm 2:9 and in Isaiah) predicts that Jesus will rule the nations with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. The word "rod" refers to a shepherd's staff. Jesus will be not only King over all the nations but also their Shepherd.
Other typologies: When the ark was completed, the glory cloud of the Lord (the Shekinah Glory) covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle (Ex 40:34-35; Nm 9:18, 22). The verb for “to cover” or “to overshadow” and the metaphor of a cloud are used in the Bible to represent the presence and glory of God. God was very specific about every exact detail of the ark (Ex 25-30). It was a place where God himself would dwell (Ex 25:8). God wanted his words-inscribed on stone-housed in a perfect container covered with pure gold within and without. How much more would he want his Word-Jesus-to have a perfect dwelling place! If the only begotten Son were to take up residence in the womb of a human girl.
Luke 1:35 :"The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will OVERSHADOW you (Glory cloud). So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.
David went out to retrieve the ark (1 Sm 6:1-2). After a man named Uzzah was struck dead when he touched the ark, David was afraid and said, “How can the ark of the Lord come to me?” He left the ark in the hill country of Judea for three months. We are also told that David danced and leapt in front of the ark and everyone shouted for joy. The house of Obed-edom, which had housed the ark, was blessed, and then David took the ark to Jerusalem (2 Sm 6:9-14).
Compare with account in Luke "And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and she exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And "why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?" For behold, when the voice of your greeting came to my ears, "the babe in my womb leaped for joy". And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.” (Lk 1:39-45)
The ark then returns to its home and ends up in Jerusalem, where God’s presence and glory is revealed in the temple (2 Sm 6:12; 1 Kgs 8:9-11). Mary also returns home and eventually ends up in Jerusalem, where she presents God incarnate in the temple (Lk 1:56; 2:21-22).

That's a lot of judgment and accusation and condemnation in that sentence. Jesus Christ is the son of God and is God blasphemy only exists when you speak against Him including the three persons of our God. Wondering if Mary slept with her husband after the experience of Jesus is not blasphemy. Mary is not a god. She is the one chosen through which God would enter the physical world and he said that he would save all of humanity, for there is not one who is perfect and without sin, he says in the native language and equivalence to no, not one which emphasizes that not a single human in the world is perfect. So therefore Jesus Christ has saved everyone including his earthly mom. Remember. Jesus was the word before the Earth was created, therefore coming through into the natural world through Mary did not cause the person of Jesus to exist. Exist. Only become revealed to us. So let's relax a little bit with the words of blasphemy and defiling Holy grounds. What are we doing.
As a person who is curious about this, I am trying to discover what in the Bible if anywhere, states that Mary was infallible, and never laid with her husband. Husband. If it is not explicitly stated then it can only be assumed, and it can be assumed. Either way. I know that Mary was a virgin when Jesus was born because it was explicitly said that she was not touched. But I have yet to hear anyone show me explicitly where it says that Mary had no more children until her death. In fact, it does not discuss Mary quite as often as people pay attention to her. We Revere and find Mary amazing and wonderfully trusting of God. That is how we should be. Just as Abraham was when he was ready to plunge a dagger into his child for God. But several times while Jesus was speaking to the people and they diverted from what he was saying to talk about how amazing his mom was to have carried him, he corrected them and said in sum... on the contrary blessed is he who receives Me.
Can anyone just simply give me that simple scripture that states that Mary was infallible, or the simple scripture that states Mary never had children outside of Jesus. If I see this I will accept it.

Why do you need to assume? When it’s written there?
    Mark 6:3
Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.”
I don’t see jt saying …the brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters with us? Which we mean infact are his cousins because when we say brothers and sisters we mean cousins or brothers and sisters from a previous marriage that Joseph had…
Seriously sam!! This is one of the worst “assuming” claims there.

    Matthew 1:24-25
Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: and knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.”
To ‘know’ a wife or husband in the biblical definition is to lay with them in the marriage bed.. so how do Catholics still make claim that Mary stayed a virgin?
And notice how it says “not till she brought forth her firstborn son”.. that automatically tells you that other children proceeded Jesus, at the very least one other sibling.
Or it would say her only Son.

People must be free to think these were real brothers of Jesus, or not, because nobody actually knows for sure. It is only pious convention that holds that Mary had no other children. Yet the Bible calls them his brother's, not cousins.

Brothers is the term used to discribe male relatives by the Jews 2000 years ago. There is scriptural evidence that Mathew was refering to the sons on Mary's sisterinlaw ( also called Mary) and their names are James,Joseph, Simon and Jude. The Blessed Virgin Mary was a Essenes, where the practice of sexual purity is a common. Read 'Jesus and the Jewish Roots of Mary' by Brant Pitre also 'Mary of Nazareth' and 'Jesus of Nazareth' by Michael Hesemann. There is no scriptural evidence that he had any natural Brothers.

Why, to justify catholics church tradition of elevating her to a deity status? Even to being the pathway to Christ?! You use Catholic church tradition to prove catholic church doctrine. Then you say to those who disagree with you that they don’t know their bible, they are confused or don’t understand? It’s insulting!!! Wake up! "Other children of Mary" proves that Christ is NOT the Messiah. PROTESTANTS! Jesus had to fulfill all prophecy, correct?
First and foremost, Jesus had to fulfill all messianic prophecy. There are three prophecies indicating that He would be an "only son"
Jeremiah 6:26 Gird thee with sackcloth, O daughter of my people, and sprinkle thee with ashes: make thee mourning as for an ONLY SON, a bitter lamentation, because the destroyer shall suddenly come upon us.
Amos 8:10 And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation: and I will bring up sackcloth upon every back of yours, and baldness upon every head: and I will make it as the mourning of an ONLY SON, and the latter end thereof as a bitter day.
Zechariah 12:10 And I will pour out upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace, and of prayers: and they shall look upon me, whom they have pierced: and they shall mourn for him as one mourneth for an ONLY SON, and they shall grieve over him, as the manner is to grieve for the death of the FIRSTBORN.
"ONLY SON" and "FIRSTBORN." Three prophets are three strikes against the "other children" argument. If Mary had other children, Jesus is NOT the Messiah. Is this what we want to prove? The scriptures nowhere mention or name any "children of Mary' except Jesus.
In Luke 1, Gabriel, sent from God, tells Mary that she will bear “a son” - singular. Gabriel told Zechariah the same about his wife Elizabeth having "a son." (Luke 1:13) Why does no one argue that John the Baptist had "brothers" and sisters"? At the ascension (Acts 1:10-11) the Angels addressed the Apostles as "Men of Galilee" - thus they were brothers. At the Pentecost (Acts 2:7) the Jews gathered in Jerusalem exclaimed "Aren't these men all Galileans?" Thus all were brothers. In 1 Corinthians 15:6, Jesus appeared to "more than five hundred brothers" - what are we to make of this?
In the Book of Tobit, chapters 7 and 8, we see that in ancient Israel, a man married his “sister” - who was an eligible woman from his same tribe of the twelve tribes. Those from Dan married Danite women. Those from the tribe of Benjamin married women (“sisters”) from the tribe of Benjamin.
Protestants are absolutely desperate to prove the Catholic Church wrong, thus justifying themselves. It seems they will ignore both prophecy and scripture in their quest against the Church.
As in numerous places on earth to this day, Africa and Asia mainly, anyone from your town, province, or nation if expatriates, is a brother or sister. They use 21st century language and culture to judge ancient Israel.

Game changer: the idea that Mary didn’t have children does not fit in scripture. If you read it closely. If they were Joseph children would not Joseph have to bring them to the census with Mary. You have to bring as I understand your Family to be counted that way he had to bring Mary even though she was pregnant. Now if they were cousins. They would not be of the household. They would be from all over the place not likely part of his household. Luke 1: uses the word cousin for Elizabeth. So the Bible surely knows the difference. Joesph was to take Mary as his wife not as a treasure, that should not be touched are the angel would say so. He knew her not until the birth of Christ. What you thank that meant? Adam knew Eve thus was born her first son. Why is this important because the early fathers made a mistake. A small one at first, but a little yeast can really start something for it has lead to Mary as essential. For our salvation which is no where in. Scripture. Not even a hint. Paul said I have finished my Course I have kelp the faint, now is lead up for me a righteous crown that the Lord will give to me in that day. 2: TEM. 4:3:- if Paul had finished his ministry then you can bet all was said concerning salvation. the idea that these men could not make a mistake, after the death of Paul, just is not true for Paul was fighting against false doctrine even will he was a live. Paul said in 2 TEM. There will come a time they would not endure sound doctrine.

Ok few problems I see here. First and foremost the New Testament was written in Greek, a language that did have separate terms for brothers and cousins. The authors of the Gospels were inspired by the Holy Spirit, possessing perfect knowledge, and it uses the term brother. That argument by itself is relatively weak I know, but it’s just a piece. Matthew 1:24-25 uses the language of Joseph did not know Mary as his wife(consummating the marriage) Until she bore her firstborn son. Multiple pieces of language indicating that yes Joseph knew Mary as his wife in context of intimacy. Then you have passages making mention of Christ's brothers in every gospel like in Mark 3, Luke 8, Matthew 12, John 7.
On top of this all, if these brothers and sisters were the step siblings from a previous marriage, they obviously must be older than Christ and yet in every mention of Christ's childhood, specifically when they needed to flee to Egypt, there is zero indication of there being anyone other than Mary, Joseph, and Christ. Yes, argument from silence, I get that. But all these factors together would seem to indicate that the mentions of siblings are those born of Mary by Joseph probably over some time after they returned from Egypt. That would seem to be the most logical conclusion from the totality of evidence from the scriptures.

Maybe I missed it, but can anyone explain to me why Catholics just assume Joseph had kids from a previous marriage and not that Joseph and Mary had kids after Jesus? Quite frankly what difference does it make if Jesus had brothers or not after his virgin birth, is it really necessary for salvation to believe that Mary was a perpetual virgin?

    • @jayschwartz6131

The difference in makes is that it diminishes Jesus as being just another child of just another common woman. Her pregnancy was unique, her body was consecrated to God after He entered the world through that body. According to Ezekiel 44:2, once God uses something, men are not allowed to use it in the same way.

I’m sorry but you are playing the games the muslim do when you debate them from their book, you show them from their book how wrong they are! Why can’t the protestant do the same!
it seems you purposely ignore that Protestant is a reform movement within the Roman Catholic Church.
You yourself said you feel bad that you attacked the Catholic and Orthodox church when you believed otherwise than you felt condemned and start defending them ,but is it really about Catholics,Orthodox, and Protestant. I saw people with faith in all these Churches and people messed up in all these three Churches(from Bishops/ priests / Pastors .. good and bad .
Why are you taking a side, reading the Bible I only cared to know more about our Lord. And if you truly seeking to know God you will find misinterpretation somewhere somehow in all churches. If they care only to bring people to Christ they would’ve been united so obviously the enemy has the seed of ego planted in all three churches .
    Concerning Mary stayed virgin
    Matthew 1:24-25
24 Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, 25 and DID NOT KNOW HER TILL she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus.
(KNOW HER MEANS they consummate their marriage. Check the Greek version).
And this doesn’t make the Role of Mother Mary any Less, the Bible doesn’t need us to make extra effort to prove it’s Holiness , and that it is the Good News ..
Mother Mary is blessed among all and having children from Joseph doesn’t make her less blessed.
And no I’m not defending the protestant , I believe in the Holy communion for example..
speaking in tongues, they take part of the text and say Paul encourages speaking in tongues, wrong interpretation from the Protestant Church
1 Corinthians 14:1-19 yes it says you can ask for the gift of speaking in tongues that no one will understand but God, but in the same text Paul says speak it if you can translate it to the Church ,”never met a pastor who was able to translate “ than he says what’s the use of speaking in tongues if no one understand .
Therefore my dear Sam, God’s word is above all! God bless you and bless all Christians no matter what church you belong to as long you believe in the Father the Son and the Holy spirit and you seek to follow the word of God and live as a goodChristian that pleases the Lord ,amen

Why does it even matter if Jesus had half siblings or not? I have always assumed He did, but it is possible He didn't. It makes no difference to my faith.
    What is the real question?
Was Jesus born of a virgin. Yes.
This is confirmed in Mathew chapter 1:
22 All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet:
23 “Look! The virgin will conceive a child!
She will give birth to a son,
and they will call him Immanuel,[j]
which means ‘God is with us.’”
24 When Joseph woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded and took Mary as his wife. 25 But he did not have sexual relations with her until her son was born. And Joseph named him Jesus. (NLT)
Was Mary a virgin all of her life? No.
According to Mathew, Joseph and Mary did not have sexual relations until after Jesus was born - confirming that fact that Jesus was born of virgin - which fulfilled prophecies even from Genesis.

Joseph knew her not until Mary brought forth her firstborn son.
This destroys Catholic tradition, the word knew her not speaks of intercourse.
After Mary brought forth her firstborn son, she had more sons and daughters by Joseph.

The word used in Matthew 1:25 “heos” or ‘until’ in English was used in other parts of scripture let me know if they make sense by the understanding you’re presupposing
2 Samuel 6:23: And Michal the daughter of Saul had no child ‘until’ (heos) the day of her death. (Does this mean she had children after she DIED?) -the exact same word
1 Timothy 4:13: Until I come, attend to the public reading of scripture, to preaching, to teaching. (Does this mean Timothy should stop teaching after Paul comes?)
1 Corinthians 15:25: For he (Christ) must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. (Does this mean Christ's reign will end? By no means!
Prots put a loooooot of emphasis on the word until there….but I don’t think they’d make the same leap for Michal having a child UNTIL her death lmao

    • @Ruudes1483

The term “until” (Greek, heōs) commonly indicated a particular state existed to a certain point, as in “John worked at his desk until five o’clock.”
The existing state often changes when the point is reached (thus, at five o’clock, John may go home). But change is not always indicated.

In 2 Samuel 6:23, Saul’s daughter Michal scoffed at King David’s enthusiasm for the Lord, and we read that she had no child “until” the day of her death. The word in the Septuagint Greek translation of the Old Testament is heōs. The passage does not mean Michal had a child after the day of her death. It means she never had children.

We see the same in the New Testament. In Matthew 13:33, Jesus tells a parable in which he says, “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.” The use of “till” (heōs) does not mean that the leaven was later taken out of the flour.

    • @Ruudes1483
      @Ruudes1483 10 дней назад +1

Similarly, in Matthew 14:22, Jesus is at the Sea of Galilee and “he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while [heōs] he dismissed the crowds.” This does not mean that the disciples turned around and returned to shore as soon as Jesus dismissed the crowds. They continued their journey to the other side, which resulted in their meeting Jesus as he was walking on the water (Matt. 14:25).

One of the doctrines of the Catholic Church is that Mary remained a perpetual virgin. Matthew 1:25 states that Joseph knew his wife after Jesus was born. That means in modern English, that Joseph had sex with her after Jesus was born and Mary was no longer a virgin. Are the church fathers saying that Matthew was lying? If Matthew was not lying, it is very likely the "brothers" of Jesus were Jesus' half brothers as the Protestants believe. The idea of the perpetual virginity of Mary, neither fits the scripture nor biological facts. So is the Bible correct, or are the church fathers correct who came later than Matthew?

yes it is holy. But according to Ezekiel 44:2, once God makes use of something, or someone, that something or someone cannot be used in the same way by men. It has become the Holiest. Consecrated to God only. Not to priests, kings, nor husband or other children in her particular case. Moses would not have dared to chop the bush where God spoke to him to use its wood for heating and cooking, or to make tools or furniture which are not forbidden uses of common wood. But that wood's bush, and even the soil around it, became Holy, consecrated to God once God used it. Do you think Christians would have dared to bury someone else in the same tomb where Jesus' body remained until His Resurrection? Do you think the Apostles would have sold or raffled among them the few material objects that belong to Jesus such as clothing and sandals? Do you think Joseph and Mary would have dared to risk conceiving a child in the same womb where Jesus, the Son of God, lived for nine months?

All these opinions are just opinions outside of scripture, its amazing all the teachings of the catholic church on Mary being sinless, ever virgin, are opinions outside of scripture, or tradition of the church which they hold on same or even higher level than scripture, scripture teaches were all sinners, but catholic church teaches Mary was sinless which is a corrupt teaching, they teach that Mary was ever virgin when scripture clearly states that Mary had other children, that jesus had brothers and sisters, there is clear distinctions in scripture between brothers and relatives, and cousins, its says brothers for one reason because they were jesus brothers, if they were cousins or close relatives scripture would have recorded it , these people are obsessed with the dogmas of Mary, Mary was blessed without question, but that's it , she was chosen by God to bear His son, but thats all, the gospel is all about christ jesus and the redemption of sinners, All the glory goes to the Godhead in the plan of salvation, christ is our mediator our advocate, He alone died for us , the catholic church takes the glory away from the Godhead with false and corrupt teachings on Mary and so called saints, its blasphemy, they deceive themselves and deceive there followers, only God can hear prayers, God's attributes are His alone, God shares His glory with no one, stick to the devine word of the Almighty God,

Hey the scripture doesn’t say God is a trinity directly, how can we be sure he’s Triune?? Who has the authority to define that belief?? Muslims and Mormons make this argument all the time that it’s not scriptural…..do you agree?
The Bible doesn’t tell us to pray directly to Jesus!! Surely you don’t object to praying to Jesus?!
Christ didn’t leave us with a book, he left us with a church with the authority to compile canon, settle disputes, and define doctrine. If you’ve got a problem with it you stand in opposition to almost 2000 years of Church teaching

Yes it doesn't say the word trinity, but scripture reveals three different persons, Father, Son. Holy Spirit, as for praying, scripture never says to pray to Mary or saints, but I can tell you that we direct our prayers to the one true God , last time I remember jesus is God in human flesh, scripture is our authority, not catholic church,

@@garyholian3552 if scripture is your authority where did scripture come from? Who decided what would be scripture? It didn’t float down from a cloud in English with a bow on it did it? Who put it together?
What authority did they have to declare scripture to be scripture, which you claim is your sole authority

Sola Scriptura is not in Scripture. It's a modern invention. Early Christians knew the language and culture - and said Mary had no other children.

We know Abraham and Lot were not even the same generation, yet the Bible calls them adelphos.
“ἀκούσας δὲ Αβραμ ὅτι ᾐχμαλώτευται Λωτ ὁ *ἀδελφὸς* αὐτοῦ ἠρίθμησεν τοὺς ἰδίους οἰκογενεῖς αὐτοῦ τριακοσίους δέκα καὶ ὀκτώ καὶ κατεδίωξεν ὀπίσω αὐτῶν ἕως Δαν” (Gen 14:14, LXX)
      Same with Laban and Jacob.
Adelphos doesn't mean what you want to shoehorn it to mean. Stop torturing the Bible.

Jesus keeps sending the Most Holy Blessed Mother and Most Chaste and Pure Saint Joseph back to earth to tell us over and over again that they are perpetual virgins.
King of Glory Lord and Redeemer Jesus Christ, please have mercy on us. Most Holy Blessed Mother Mary, and Most Chaste and Pure Saint Joseph, please pray for us. 🙏
Most Holy Blessed Virgin Mary, I bless thy holy Name. I praise thine exalted privilege of being truly Mother of God, ever Virgin, conceived without stain of sin, Co-Redemptrix of the human race. Amen.

It has been my understanding the question was a matter of Christ assigning John to be her caretaker at the foot of the cross. It was Joseph's family that took them to Bethlehem and it was estimated they were there for some time before being forced to flee to Egypt...I presumed his family there would have formed tribal closeness but not enough to assume Mary's care when Joseph was gone. Even a step child could have been required, I would think. My understanding is that there was no word for cousin commonly used in Aramaic.

You’d be correct that there isn’t a differentiating word for cousins and siblings in Aramaic. However the New Testament is written in Greek, a language that does have a different word for the two. And under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit the word used was Brother.
This alone isn’t conclusive, but along with many other factors of the mentions of Christ's brothers. I think the conclusive evidence is that they were children born of Mary. The perpetual virginity view honestly holds no weight from the most plain reading of scripture. It feels far more like eisegesis from the influence of Satan.
