Wow this video is popular! Good work! Do you think you can do a chain guide video? I see a lot of videos saying they made mistakes not putting chain lube and stuff but they never showed how too. And this is my most inexperienced part of building the cart. Tensioner? Taking one link out? Lining the chain up to the sprockets (I get that’s with a spacer though) Thanks
@@MostWantedrifter my flipsky 7070 just arrived and I'll be installing that. I want to make an ultimate video covering everything.
I'm the meantime I will say this about chains. I've got a solution to get rid of the tensioner. Remove enough links so that the stock position is tight but you can still get the chain on by rotating the sprocket.
You get longer motor mount screws, like 1 inch. You adjust the chain tension by lowering the motor until the tension is just right. Figure out how many washers you can fit behind the motor on one side. Put them there and tighten that side down. The chain should still be loose. You tighten the side without the washers so the chain becomes the proper tension. I will include this into the video. Please like the video if I've helped

I just bought an XL today for $150 and was super happy with the price. I do have some questions you can hopefully answer. If I choose to go to 48V battery setup and new controller, will this cause my motor to strain and overheat quickly? Also, can you give an idea for the battery life for riding your kart setups? I know an XL will most likely be not as long of a run time but just a rough estimate would be good. This video was fantastic and I plan to do all your upgrade suggestions! How you doing? So I decided to copy your option 1 exactly mirror copied and it seems to run fine the first time I used the cart. After charging it I check the battery and my volt meter read 53v with full battery. The moment i turned the the cart it it immediately started go to full speed without me pressing the pedal. I couldn’t stop the cart and accidentally crashed it the garage. After crashing I turned off the cart and finally the cart stopped. I’ve been scratching my head trying to figure out what went wrong. Now everything I charge it to green and try it again it has the same problem. I even tried giving the pedal cable more slack thinking that it was pinching and forcing the pedal to accelerate. I’m assuming the there might be something wrong with my controller or pedal. When I opened up the controller, I saw a little spot of black dust on the inside. Now when connecting everything together once again it doesn’t work at all. Did you ever had this problem or do you have any suggestions on how to fix this? Anything helps thank man for all these helpful video. You’re the best!
@@KaneLam-p3b dude I am SO sorry to hear that! That is just plain strange! My advice would be to prop the cart up on a brick or a tire or something to where it is freewheeling when you turn it on.
Unplug the pedal connection and turn the car on to see if it still runs the motor. If the motor runs with the pedal disconnected then that signifies there's something going on in the controller. Let's start from there. Again man, I'm sorry and I hope everything is ok! By the way you should never turn the card on unless you are sitting on it. Not sure if you were, just going forward that would be a good practice
@@KaneLam-p3b I'm good by the way, thanks
I will try that and I’ll update you once I finish. I just ordered a new controller so let see if that would fix it. If it doesn’t I’m assuming I’ll need to order a new pedal as well. Thx for relying so quickly!
Okay good new! I installed the new controller and everything seems to work perfectly. I guess the controller I had was faulty. Keep up the good work!
@@KaneLam-p3b I'm really glad you figured it out!
Just a question people have said that if you put a 48v controller and battery on the stock motor it could blow up. Should i take my chances or upgrade the motor? Is there any other way it can go just as fast for cheaper without a motor upgrade?
@MustafaF4 you burning the motor up depends on how heavily you use it, how much you weigh, your riding conditions and such. My 90 lb son rides his with me and he has no problems.
Unfortunately you either have to take breaks, way less, or upgrade the motor. It's just physics man
@MustafaF4 by the way, just to be clear, the motor doesn't actually explode. It just stops working because it gets too hot and burns the enamel on the coils
Ok thank you
If i upgrade the motor which one do you recommend on a budget?
Hey thanks for your video!! Your a legend. I agree, the upgrades are so expensive. I've got a v1 cart, could i put x2 18v 5ah drill batteries makita in series to stock 24v controller and stock 250w motor you reckon? Would that burn out the motor or controller?
@@BrandyMullens I ran 36v through my stock controller and it didn't blow it, but I'm telling you it will not deliver the power to the motor. If you know your going to stick with 36v just upgrade the controller for 16 or so dollars with a controller on Amazon.
Thanks for your reply. I think I'll go with 36v for now, on the stock 250w motor. Do I have to match the controller to 250w as well? Or if I go 500w 36v would that not work? I'm new to all this
@@BrandyMullens well, as far as I've seen the controllers are much more wattage than the stock motor and wouldn't matter at all, but you do have to match the voltage because the controller will have a minimum voltage it will send to the motor. A 48v controller wouldn't even send anything to the motor at 36v.
Just know that at 36v your only going to be increasing motor speed by about 50% and will only get about 17-18mph, which may be plenty for you.
The issue is, if you decide to go with 48v later, then you need to buy a new controller again. Hope that helps!
Thanks!
Can I put a 25t motor sprocket on the 36v 500w motor, without doing anything special besides trading it out?
You will need to adjust the chain length but as far as the motor goes that's all. Sorry i missed your comment
But do you think you could release a video on how to connect the batteries and if you can. Can you do all of the wiring.
Please look around first next time

No problem I'm here to help. All 3 are standard carts.
@@TheCrazyCartModChannel thank you so much! Also, if I were to choose the cheap but simple option of using a 48V battery setup with a 48V speed controller, could I instead find a single 48V battery instead of linking your batteries together? If so, what specs should it be?
@@DefectiveSentry You could absolutely do that, it depends on what you find and how much money you're willing to put into it. The best bet would be to get a 48V lithium phosphate battery, but I'm still trying to source one of those that's not crazy expensive. I would say look for a minimum 10 Amp hour rating for a 48V battery. Just keep in mind, you've got to get a charger designed for whatever type of battery you buy. @@officialkal4 the sensitive steering is honestly something that will absolutely go away as you learn. I'm currently going to get a Crazy Cart XL this weekend, I want to fully mod it a bunch. I have a stock 60v 32 ah surron battery, and the battery compartment for the crazy cart xl is 14 inches, and my battery is 14.5 inches, I am not entirely sure if I want to try to fit the battery in the and then put a hole into the battery compartment so I can run the wires out or if I should put the battery right to the left of the battery compartment. I have 2 concerns though, if the battery will throw off the center of mass, and if I do that if I should also put something equal weight in the battery compartment to even things out. I see you have your battery to the left though, and I know the regular crazy cart is wayyyy less heavy and so in a ratio of the weight of the battery to the whole thing, yours is probably heavier, so realistically I should be good + the XL has extra safety casters so I should be all good. Just a bit worried about that. Besides that I just have wait for the charged 3d kit for the xl to come back in stock, not entirely sure what the difference between the standard and XL, and then I will probably put a disk brake on it with an e-bike lever with a switch on it for hall sensor effect braking so I can use it as a regen brake + an actual disk brake!!!!
I don't think the battery effects the mass enough to make a difference honestly. the kart is already so big. I have moved my new lithium batteries to the center though, but it's mainly for the looks. I hope you enjoy it man! As far as the battery being a little larger, I'm not sure how to advise on that, or XL stuff in general, sorry!
hey one question i want to put a xl 500w motor in a standerd crazy cart would i get a 48v 500w controller or a 48v 1000w controller? and keep up the good work!
@@jackofisho6417 happy to help! you can get the 1000w controller from the parts list, but you could also probably get a stronger one than that as well if you find one you want. You have to realize that the motor is going to be putting out 500w at 36v, so you'll definitely be doing more at 48. I have read some blog posts about doubling the voltage actually quadrupling the power and I don't understand it but there were scientific equations included. So it's safe to say at double the voltage it will be at least double the power output
@@TheCrazyCartModChannelthanks I researched and it said by adding the volts and amps like 48v x 12amp you get 576w but not so sure about the watt rate on the controller.
Think of the controller as a hose nozzle. You can have a strong motor, but if the controller only lets it get so much power it's a waste. there are other controllers that allow more wattage, but I am not familiar with them. I went with something easy and cheap.
Awesome seeing them on _Crazy garage_ website close to $3k my heart just sank but adding mods about $500…
@@SpartanX360 nothing even close to that with this channel 👍

@@maksimchamp7529 the stock motor can definitely overheat if you ride to hard or too long. The cheapest route is the 500w bolt in motor, but the best route would be the flipsky 7070 motor and Vesc controller from the parts list. You need to make your own mount though.
I personally have a 48v battery setup with a 1000w 48v setup and for speed I get around 23 of full charge and 22 for the rest of the week. I weight around 150 pounds. I run it for about 20 to 25 minutes full throttle and it starts to become decently hot, put on that thing it feels so nice. Also recommend the sealed headset bearings and I'm sorry if you don't have the money but a taxi garage cst tire is worth it. I got mine going I did a little different to keep normal charger but the battery only last about 10 mins what will increase battery life
1) Before I bought the 48V charger, I would wire up the batteries to use the stock charger as well. I made it to where I could charge two sets of batteries at 24V and then I changed the wiring around to make it 48V for riding. the stock charger took all day to charge 4 Batteries. You need to check the voltage of your batteries and they should each be at around 13.5V each.
2) did you also upgrade the controller to 48V?

I’m thinking about doing this with a 500w, might have to cut the pipe out and then reinforce with metal
as someone else has already mentioned, the 36V 500 watt motor fits and just needs a sprocket change. However, the 500 watt motor is smaller than the 350 watt one I installed, and theoretically will heat up faster. I'm not truly sure how the two would compare performance wise. But I am honestly surprised at just how strong the forks are still. Once the axle is installed the bars on the other side really keep it beefy. I will eventually reinforce it though. Awesome video too, I can't wait to upgrade my cart!
Edit: Another quick question, what upgrades do you recommend I do first for the most value if I don't have that much money?
@@motboy7 that's definitely an older cart. You can probably pull the batteries and move them to the deck or somewhere but will have to make your own mount. I'm sure you can move your seat, but it will require drilling new holes and using new bolts and nuts. Probably cutting a new channel in the seat for the drift bar as well.
As I recommended in the video for the cheapest route, 2 more batteries and the 48v controller and it'll be doing 20 mph for like $80.
I just updated yup lithium phosphate and it's like... SO much better for an extra $130.
Hell, if you're cool with the stock speed and just want a crap load more ride time, just buy 2 lithium phosphate batteries and slap them in (24v).
@@TheCrazyCartModChannel Thanks for the explanation I really appreciate it. I’ll look into the drilling thing more but I’m just wary of damaging it just because I’m not too skilled with that sort of stuff. Thanks again!
Simply changing the sprocket on the stock motor will give you more speed but will lower your torque no different from an rc car
@@harveyjoneswoodsman5956 of course, which is why I upgraded to a stronger motor. Also the sprockets on the motor and wheel are different on the yellow one.
The standard 24v motor blows up on 48v. It is faster but for about 10 minutes.
@@Nomate368 it 100% depends on your weight and how hard you're working the motor. This works for 155 lbs and under quite well. My 90 lb kids are ripping zero problems. This is the cheapest route for speed but I provide other options in the video for sure 👍

@Francisco-Danconia when overvolting the 500w on 48v its crucial that the correct sprocket is now a 15tooth. the flipski 2000w would work on 48v battery? and the controller is the one right below right(dumb question just checking). i wanna run that motor on an XL since it’s so heavy
@@puffcolover8592 I think it work up to 70 volts, so definitely. But since I don't have it yet I can't review it. So do you research
So I’m buying a stock used crazy cart of Facebook marketplace. I want to do a simple battery and controller upgrade. I’m a little confused on the charging situation. Do you use the 48v regular charger for all three of your carts? And how would I have to modify the charger to charge them? Also, if I decided to spend extra money to buy the lithium batteries, how hard would it be to set them up and replace the old ones.
@@Jackson_Iles I would absolutely go with the lifepo4 batteries. The capacity and power delivery is so much better than the SLA. There's a charger for them in the parts list and I used XT60 connectors for the controller, battery and charger at this point.
I made the battery side female, and the other two connectors male so you can't accidentally plug the charger into the controller and kill it.
To mount the batteries just use these $2 straps from home Depot. Bend them and drill holes out to line up with the Allen screws on the front side, then use 2 self tapping screws (or bolts if you want) for the back side between the battery and seat.
While you can use the 48v SLA charger on the lithium batteries, you may not get the same charge. Lithium charges at a constant voltage and current, while SLA batteries charge at a voltage that steps up to stay a certain amount above the batteries voltage. I honestly don't know that it matters too much, as when I used the SLA charger the batteries still charged. But I think you would definitely not want to use the lithium charger on an SLA setup.
Thankfully, the blue charger in the links has colored red and black wires, so you don't have to guess the polarity of the wires. I'll make a community post showing the straps and connectors.
@@TheCrazyCartModChannel my biggest thing is I want range. And I don’t want to have to do cutting on the chargers. If I just bought the four lithium lifepo4 batteries, and the charger that you linked I wouldn’t have to do any cutting. And I could run that on the 48 V controller you suggested and the stock motor. Did I get that all right? Lithium batteries are more expensive but they should get more range right? I want the best set up that I can get on the stock motor.
Just assuming that I had a stock crazy cart. I wanna make a cart just like your green and pink one but instead with lithium batteries. What is the part list of everything that I would need?

@@menameispat9761 absolutely. You can buy a 36v 500 watt motor that bolts right in and just order the sprocket for a #25 chain. Look up the Alvey tech motor on Amazon.

@@menameispat9761 bro it's almost insulting that you think I can't comprehend what you wrote.

Can you put mods on the older model with the battery in the back
You know I'm sure you can, but I am not hands on familiar with it. It might require some fabrication work, but the concepts are all the same. If you happen to figure something out let us all know so we can help others!
@@TheCrazyCartModChannel So I found out it does work but on the older model the battery is in the back behind the seat so I just moved it to the front and rewired the whole cart because I swapped out everything except for the motor. I also took off all off all the plastic back there.
@@LeagueViper great to hear! I think you could probably drill some holes and move that seat for the back as well. You would just have to buy some new bolts and manually bolt it on the underside maybe and cut out new holes for the drift bar
@@TheCrazyCartModChannel yeah I will probably do that because the seat is pretty close.

@@demir_gtr you can use solder or just wire connectors. I got the wire from a vacuum cord that was being thrown away. That's why I never included it in the list 🫣

@Francisco-Danconia but how would I go on to do that? I've only seen people spray paint it but I want to add like a graphic design.
@@menameispat9761 unless I'm misunderstanding somehow, what I just suggested would literally be what you're asking for. A vehicle graphics place would take your image/design and print it out into a vinyl that would then be applied to the cart. They could probably even design it for you if you want.

You think it would work if I just bought an adhesive one on amazon? Think it would be cheaper than going to a shop@Francisco-Danconia
@@menameispat9761 Well it will just about always be cheaper doing something yourself vs Paying a person to do it. I'm about to upload my video for that in a few minutes. I hope it helps you greatly.
Did you happen to see my controller video?
Do you paint these yourself? What do you use if so, just spray paint?
@@trex99998 Yes, I did it myself. tried two different spray paints so far. Rust-Oleum enamel (2 cans) for the yellow, and the other two I think were the Rust-Oleum 2x which I only used 1 can of each. @@ikeaiscool5873 If you've already got the 36v lithium then ok, but I would go with 48v because your drawing less amps the higher the voltage. You'll have to make sure whatever voltage you're using that you have the appropriate controller for that voltage.
