    This is absolutely AWESOME welcome back to the 1980's the
    SUPERB cop series that not only made television history but
    made Miss Sharon Gless and miss Tyne Daly along with the
    rest of the OUTSTANDING cast house hold names. This is
    one of my favourite theme tunes of all time., listening to
    this upbeat tribute relives Cagney and Lacey running after
    the criminals in the opening sequence. I wonder if miss
    Sharon Gless and Miss Tyne Daly have heard this brilliant
    tribute great job bravo Big beer band.

    In addition to all the praise for the sounds, "a shout out" to the camera and sound crew. Good video/camera placement and audio coverage -- not an easy feat with this large of a group in a rather confined space.
    One common element about Big Beer Band's renditions of "Cagney and Lacey," "The Rockford Files," "Mannix" and "Hawaii Five-O" is there's considerable improv-type additions/padding in their three minute renditions of the traditional one-minute themes. (One-minute main titles: you know, back in the day when there was such a thing.)
    From where I'm sittin' I can guarantee Big Beer Band's men and women -- the audience here on RUclips is having nearly as much fun as you are!
    Thanks for posting, Nigel Crane.

    I thought I was listening @ x2 - this is an interpretation, it's too fast making it sound rushed. Good effort, however I prefer the original...

      It's going at about the correct tempo if video is playing at the 75% speed setting in RUclips. 50% speed setting makes it sound like a dirge.

    About 10 - 14 beats per minute too fast. Slow it down a little so that everybody can hit more of the notes.

      If I know right, the original Bill Conti version (1982-83 season) was 125 BPM.

    This has to be the scrappiest and sloppiest version of this tune Ive heard in all th year I've played the tune myself and they've also taken it to an easier key to play in, so that shows that this band must be amateurs. Its also played far too fast and all the classic hallmark moments are missing, starting with the two part Alto Sax intro and the exit was played so badly and also played legato when it should be all tongued, but not staccato ..... really poor amateur version ..... Ive heard high school age kids play this much better and also in the correct key signature too.

    • @sebastianwelcome2080
      @sebastianwelcome2080 4 года назад +1

      l thought it was pretty good for a brass band

    • @Islendingar
      @Islendingar 4 года назад

      Sebastian Welcome , if you listen to the original in its full version then the intro is the same one as per the TV show, tenor saxes in harmony with the altos playing the altissimo fills. The tenor saxes on this version were also trying to play glissandos and not all at the same time yet for the same part. You then move to the verse section (or part 2 if you prefer) and the playing gets even sloppier with notes being missed or overblown making them sound like the octave up and slightly flat as a result of not using the octave key too. There are many more things that I could point out but think that if these points above could be sorted along with using the original arrangement and bpm it could be a passable version of the tune.

    • @alansturm1947
      @alansturm1947 4 года назад

      It's in Bb, just like on TV.

      I didn’t question the key they were using just the standard of playing. I don’t know how much experience or if you play yourself and which instruments .... I’ve been playing wing instruments for 40 years and as a high school student was a part of our local concert band and Divisional Wind band. At 16 I was also First chair on clarinet for the Scottish National Youth Orchestra and was there for 4 years till Ini took over my free time. Also the cut off was looming at my 21st birthday was approaching. I do love hearing bands. I do love hearing bands but if they are not up to scratch then I do comment, to help them improve or point out how an independent set of ears hears things .... I’ve had this over the years too, record something thinking it sounds fantastic and listening back to it blows that away and y have to record the parts again as it was total trash !
