Wow great tune. I used to watch the show and have zero recall of the song, yet Sanford & Son and Benny Hill are deeply engrained in the memory for good.
RUclips is dangerous. After reading the title of this video I had the song stuck in my head. I've loved this theme song ever since I first heard it during the series' original run. A few minutes into this video I had to pause it to order the complete series on DVD. Now I'm going to have to learn to play the sax. :-) I'm glad I stumbled across your YouChewbe channel!
While I’m possibly slightly too young to have ever watched the tv series, wow what a theme tune! I’m having great fun wrapping my fingers around these licks :-)
Thank you . Great Stuff. Great work and teaching. So fun to play. Love Cagney&Lacey and the great Sax Intro . Ernie Watts is a Killer Player. Wish you all the best. Take care.
Thanks Emma. I'm glad you agree with me on this tune. I'm so gutted that this isn't my most popular video of all time! So stoked when people comment on it, so thanks! J:-)
@@GetYourSaxTogether it is such a cleaver piece of music and quite outstanding as an intro melody. The sax playing is sublime to me. Where is that kind of ingenuity in today's music?? Seems very rare to me
Wow! Just discovered you channel Jamie. Thanks for this and the other great videos. Have you thought about doing a tutorial for the opening lick and solo for LA Law?
Hi Jamie..I've literally just pick up an Alto sax. Never played before but after about an hour I managed to play baker street (not to a great standard but not bad). I'd love to be able to play Glen Millar in the mood. Could you do a tutorial video for this one?
That's pretty impressive Paul! You must be a natural. I'm not gonna do a tutorial on In The Mood I'm afraid. Partly as it's not a sax SOLO as such, and partly cos I get shivers thinking about it as I've had to play it so many times on dodgy gigs over the last 25 years! lol I'll give you a clue though - the main ring goes (on alto) A C F* A C F* A C F* A C F* (x2), Bb D* F* Bb D* F* Bb D* F* Bb D* F* ( then play the first bit again), C E* G* C E* G* C E* G* C E* G*, F* F* F* F* G* G* G* G* Ab* G* F* Hope that helps. J:-)
@@GetYourSaxTogether you're a star. Thank you. I love watching your videos. I'm just really struggling to learn how to read music. That's why your tutorials are amazing for me with the fingering diagrams also
Great! Thanks for this. Great theme tune and great show. I can't get a sound out of the high G. I haven't got to that level yet. 3rd year conservatoire. I can play the rest though and it sounds pretty ok. I'll check out the pdf. 👍👍
Hi Jamie, the link for this pdf doesn't seem to work. I keep getting a message that the email has invalid characters, but it's correct. However, I've been trying to learn it by pausing the video. It'y not easy and takes quite a long time.
Love these sax theme tunes. Have you ever considered looking at the Lou Grant Theme. I understand there were a couple of versions, but the composer Patrick Williams had a version on his album 'Come on and Shine' with a middle section that is awesome. ruclips.net/video/IKVqZIXyNzg/видео.html
If you love Cagney And Lacey check out my other Sax Hall Of Fame vids here...

Francis Taylor - haven’t thought of that. I’ll put it on “the list” 👍🏻
What mode or scale is this theme in? It’s in a major mode, but which major mode?
Not really modal.
