Cagney & Lacey is an American police drama television series (produced by Orion Television) that ran for seven seasons from 1982 to 1988. The show is about two New York City police detectives who lead very different lives: Christine Cagney (Sharon Gless) is a career-minded single woman, while Mary Beth Lacey (Tyne Daly) is a married working mother. The series is set in a fictionalised version of Manhattan's 14th Precinct (known as "Midtown South").
Composer Bill Conti is best known for scoring and writing the theme music to the Rocky films, so it’s hardly surprising that his theme music to Cagney & Lacey is so good. For this mix, I’ve used the title music from season 7 (1988) and a saxophone sample from a rare version that was used, occasionally, during the opening titles from season 4.

Brilliant. Like most USA TV series of the time, each few seasons or so got a different arrangement. 1982-84 was dry room everything (bass, drums , brass and strings) . The sax-heavy Theme from 1984 also introduced the famously 80s Simmons toms before the end of the theme as they go back through the door, then back to the original version in 3-strip stereo for 1986 onwards with the drum track reverbed which was the fashion as we near the end of the 80s where recording bands went out of fashion for a few decades. Ray Pizzi and Ernie Watts played the saxes on all versions with the correct staccato in the places where they are supposed to be unlike nearly all cover re-versions including 'Daniel Caine / The Power Pack Orchestra' which was the first unofficial cover back in 1983.
One of the best themes, can’t get enough of it - this great mix doubles the length!

I played this tune with my school brass band many years ago...and I don't mind admitting that the intro (and outro) are *_bloody_* difficult!

@@jebeja I played the trumpet (badly...) and the intro and outro are so fast that they really tangle your fingers!
It's probably easier to play on the sax, as Bill Conti originally intended!

Géniale, la musique du générique de Cagney et Lacey, moi aussi je les adores. Mes 2 minettes sont super sympas et géniales se sont 2 collègues de travail et amies dans la série et les meilleures amies du monde qui s 'entendent trop bien et qui sont trop cool dans la vraie vie. Christine est ma demi-soeur. On se ressemble un peu car toutes les deux on est blondes. Moi blonde foncée et Chris blonde platine, et on a toute les deux les yeux bleus, la seule différence qu ' il y a c 'est que moi je suis Française et elle, elle est Américaine, que je parle le Français et elle L ' Anglais. Ma Chris est extraordinaire. Elle mérite d 'avoir toutes ses récompenses. Un Emmy Auward deux Golden Globe plus une étoile. This is great. Speaking of US themes, you know what would be sweet? A Steve Dorff medley. He did a lot of Warner's TV themes in the late 80s (not Night Court, unfortunately, but most every other).
