The flag of Doukas is the modern Hellenic army flag and the Imperial standard with the four "B" is the Greek church flag. The flag of Palaiologos is the symbol of at least three Hellenic major football league teams.
the modern greek flag is the house banner of the kallergi family which was the former dynastic imperial family phokas. they changed their name when they resettled in crete and later in venice. the first greek king otto was a descendend of 3 imperial families , the laskari, phokas and komnenos. king otto was also king of bavaria which also had the flag from the coat of arms of the kallergi family. king otto was chosen by the greek as legitimate emperor to restore the byzantine empire and liberate the occupied regions and restore constantinople as the capital of the greek roman.
I support the argument that the name should be "The Holly Roman Empire". Nobody of the inhabitants of the vast empire called themselves byzantine citizen. They were all proud to call themselves Romans. Greeks included. Remnants of witch we found even today in "Εγώ Ρωμιός γεννήθηκα Ρωμιός θε να πεθάνω ", "Την Ρωμιωσινη μην την κλαις", etc. We must research: 1. How the Bosporous city was called and if it's name had any impact or influence after the pagan Roman Empire Christiansted. 2. How the Empire's Authorities signed legislation and how the Citizens called themselves as legal entities. 3. How the Byzantine term came to be. Answers: 1. The city, a small Greek fishermen village was defenty called Byzantium. Established by Greeks in times that the region was predominantly colonized by Greeks and no Slav, Arab, German, Mongolian tribes, even existed. After Constantine, (no-one says that his ethnicity was Greek), forsee that the influence of Christianity is as such that it will jeopardize it's same existence he took the political decision to seize fire and incorporate Christianity in empire's structure, than fight it. Major symbolic decisions he made: Baptized himself and change the location of Empire's Capital. Everything else remained exactly "Pagan Roman". From Roman Law system to the Army outfits. He decided that a relocation of the capital further east will benefit the new city with Military Control, and commerce routes of vast Asia than the insignificant land he had on the west limited by the Atlantic Ocean. And His first decision was Thessalonica. He actually built a port to the city. But the Strategic location of Byzantium made him to finally declare it New Capital and name it New Rome, during his reign. He built a port, a palace, a hippodrome, a forum with an obelisk, like in old Rome and of cource churches. Constantinople was renamed by his successors honoring his Name. The name Byzantium was used at the time by local Greeks for one or two generations until they became incorporated to the power of the new capital. After some centuries nobody remembered its old name, like today nobody remembers that Lutecia was the Name of Paris, except some history freaks like me. 😁 2. All Roman Authorities signed documents like such. ROMAN. The Emperors of many nationalities, themselves heads of both State and Church signed as ROMAN EMPERORS and dispatched their orders to the many nations of their Empire. No official document exist in any Archive or Library of the world mentioning Byzantine Emperor from that time. Legally the Citizens was called themselves as ROMANS also. Both the Emperors and the citizens were of many different nationalities but what bonded them all together was that proudly and universally called themselves Romans. Gradually the Latin language and culture gave place to Greek, (Culture was Hellenized even before). Like we call our shelves Europeans but we are French Slovenians Bulgarians Portugals Swedish or Greeks, the Romans did the same. Nothing new here. History always repeats itself. 3. The Term Byzantine Empire is a pseudonym invented by Historians of 15th century after it's collapse, to distinguish the entities of the predominantly Orthodox Patriarchate ruled Church of the ROMAN HOLLY EMPIRE of the East, from the predominantly Catholic Pope ruled Church of ROMAN HOLLY EMPIRE of the west. The first been Hellenizided and the second Latinized. Conclusions: 1. We spoke already about us modern Europeans of different Nationalities. If one day European Union was to be named "Blue Caviar", that would benefit only our rivals. Naming the HOLLY ROMAN EMPIRE of the east "Byzantine" benefits only religious Christian religious fundamentalists and outside enemies who want to divide us into Greeks Syrians Egyptians Serbs or Albanians and Armenians and re-establish their Muhammad based Empire. We stay strong together. We fall divided. Long live Constantinople! Long live (in our collective subconscious) THE GREAT HOLLY EASTERN ROMAN EMPIRE IN ALL IT'S MIGHTY GLORY IT ONCE HAD ! @@Forlfir sure and Justinian (the first emperor of Eastern Roman emire) who build Hagia Sofia in 6th century), and another church in Bulgaria and capital city that caries a name Sofia was born in Serbia near Prizren. @Byzantine Historian if you are Byzantine historian that you have learned wrong history. When Rome fell (around 478AC), Roman Empire continued in the Balkans and the East. It was Called Eastern Roman Empire with the capital city Roma seconda , not Constantinople witch came later and was named after Constantin porfirogent. Byzantine is relatively new name made up in around 17 century by Vatican when most document were falsified. Much of the Europian history, especially Slavic and Balkan history was falsified by Vatikan and Fanariotic Greek group.
@Byzantine Historian really? Wow, what a "Historian". Let's start name calling next. You smart enough to understand those words that I misspelled, historian.

The Komnenoi had some nice flags.
Excellent job!
Constantine I, had no such flag. The 4 Bs were the insignia of Palaiologoi.
Great and informative video!!!!

Not gonna lie at first I thought this was the Ottoman Empire's flag and was like "wait wat"
Ottoman flag already refers to that flag just like modern Turkish flag. Most people, even Turks, skip this information. (I'm a Turk)
The eagle of Rome conquers all as they used to say back then!
As you can see, the Byzantine Empire lives and thrives even today. 😆❤️
Interesting. But why the "Song of the Volga Boatmen" for an introduction?

You should put them somewhere, and let us download them. They are really well-made.

Lol where do you think the Muslims stole everything from?
Did anybody bother to notice that Serbian flag has pretty much the same insignia?
Stefan considered himself a succesor of the basileia. Was murdered on his way to liberate the city. Rumors say the pope was behind the murder.
Thats becouse serbians have byzantinian blood

Do you have a source for 0:36? and why is there such a big white cross in front of the chi-rho? I'm not diskliking just curious
it's wrong I think
According to wikipedia this one and blue cross is fictional flag
0:36 why is there a swiss cross infront of the logo
there is no swiss cross.
The swiss stole it from the byzantine.
Where did you get all the family flags from?
Age of Empires II?
Today turkis flag comes ftom the ancient byzantine city symbol lol
Quarter of moon with a star 😄😄😄😄
No Byzantine. Eastern Roman empire.
So turks stile their flag too
Please do change to correct name, Roman Eastern Empire. Byzantine word for Eastern Roman Empire is falsification of historical facts.
They are still greeks regardless
